  • As next generation nonvolatile memory, chalcogenide-based phase change memory can substitute for a conventional flash memory from its high performance. Also, fast writing speed, low writing voltage, high sensing margin, low power consumption and repetition reliability over $10^{15}$ cycle shows its possibility. At our laboratory, we invented ${Ge_1}{Se_1}{Te_2}$ material to alternate with conventional ${Ge_2}{Sb_2}{Te_5}$ for improve its ability. We respect the ${Ge_1}{Se_1}{Te_2}$ material can be a solution for high power consumption problem and long time at 'set' performance. A conductivity experiment from variable temperature was performed to see reliability of repetition at read and write performance. Compare with conventional ${Ge_2}{Sb_2}{Te_5}$ material, these two materials are used as complex compound to get the finest parameter.

  • The objective of this study is to develope ground heat exchanger using PHC file used to building foundation, and it's element technology. So we construct PHC ground heat exchanger in the apartment house's PHC foundation and evaluate it's performance. First, we study PHC file type, heat exchanger pipe, grouting materials, and present apartment house's foundation condition for PHC ground heat exchanger and design it's proto type. Second according to grouting materials, we estimate construction convenience, and it's performance. Construction convenience side, PB 22 A pipe and sand grouting with moisture was good for PHC ground heat exchanger elements. Experiment result is very superior. Thermal conductivity B, C type(sand, gravel) was respectively 32.4 W/m$^{\circ}C$, 36.5 W/m$^{\circ}C$, D(concrete) Type 27.8 W/m$^{\circ}C$, E(bentonite) Type 19.6 W/m$^{\circ}C$. Thermal interference for 4 day experiment period in 3.8 m was very small. So PHC file is good for using ground heat exchanger.

  • Preliminary analysis of in-reactor thermal performance of three MOX fuel rods, which are going to be irradiated in the Halden reactor beginning in the first Quarter of the year 2000 under the framework of the OECD Halden Reactor Programme, have been conducted by using the computer code COSMOS to ensure their safe operation. Parametric studies have been carried out to investigate the effect of uncertainties on in-reactor behavior by considering the four kinds of uncertainties; thermal conductivity, linear power, manufacturing parameters, and model constants. The analysis shows that, in the case of annular MOX -1 fuel, calculation results for thermal performance vary widely depending on the selection of model constants for fission gas release (FGR). On the contrary, the thermal performance of solid MOX - 3 fuel does not depend on the choice of FGR constants to a large extent as MOX-I, because the fuel temperature is very high in the MOX-3 irrespective of the choice of FGR constants and hence the capacity of grain boundaries to retain gas atoms is not large enough to accommodate the number of gas atoms reaching the grain boundaries. It is planned that when the data on microstructure and thermal conductivity for each type of MOX fuel are available, new analysis will be made using these information. In addition, FGR model constants will be derived from the measured fuel centerline temperature, rod internal pressure and other related data.

  • Silicon (Si) has been considered as a promising anode material because of its abundant reserves in nature, low lithium ion (Li+) intercalation/de-intercalation potential (below 0.5 V vs. Li/Li+) and high theoretical capacity of 4200 mA h/g. In this paper, we prepared a silicon-based (Si-based) anode material containing a small amount of silicon carbide by using magnesiothermic coreduction of silica and hexachlorobenzene. Because of good conductivity of silicon carbide, the cycle performance of the silicon-based anode materials containing few silicon carbide is greatly improved compared with pure silicon. The raw materials were formulated according to a silicon-carbon molar ratio of 10:0, 10:1, 10:2 and 10:3, and the obtained products were purified and tested for their electrochemical properties. After 1000 cycles, the specific capacities of the materials with silicon-carbon molar ratios of 10:0, 10:1, 10:2 and 10:3 were still up to 412.3 mA h/g, 970.3 mA h/g, 875.0 mA h/g and 788.6 mA h/g, respectively. Although most of the added carbon reacted with silicon to form silicon carbide, because of the good conductivity of silicon carbide, the cycle performance of silicon-based anode materials was significantly better than that of pure silicon.

  • Ground source heat pump(GSHP) systems is known as environmental friendly and energy saving. Especially a ground heat exchanger is an important unit that determines the thermal performance of a system and initial cost. In design phase of vertical GSHP system, it is recommended that the effective borehole thermal resistance, be determined from in-situ thermal response test. In this study, ground effective thermal conductivity was categorized by a region. As a result of the study, the ground thermal conductivity of national average was analyzed as 2.56 W/mK. The highest regional average of thermal conductivity is 2.68 W/mK in Seoul, and the lowest is 2.28 W/mK in Busan. Also, the thermal conductivity on the coast has been analyzed approximately 30% lower than the average.

  • Fuel cells are known as eco - friendly energy facilities that can use heat energy and electric energy at the same time. Fuel cells are classified according to the temperature and material used, and solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is relatively high temperature ($700-800^{\circ}C$). SOFC requires a hot box consisting of a high temperature stack, a reformer, a burner, and the heat exchangers in order to use energy efficiently. The hot box needs to maintain heat insulation performance at high temperature to reduce heat loss. However, Fibrous insulation, which is widely used, needs to be improved because it has a disadvantage that the thermal conductivity is rapidly increased due to the increase of temperature. Therefore, this study was carried out to develop a thermal insulation, which is applied to multiple layers insulation (MLI) technic, that can be used under SOFC operating conditions and prevent a drastic drop in thermal conductivity at high temperature. The developed insulation is consist of a thermally conductive material, a spacer, and a reflective plate. The thermal conductivity of the insulation was measured by in the thermal conductivity measuring device at high temperature range. As a result, it was confirmed that the developed layers insulation have an good thermal conductivity (0.116 W/mK) than fibrous insulation (0.24 W/mK) as a radiation shielding effect at a high temperature of 1,173 K.

  • In this study, to obtain good dispersity of graphene which has excellent conductivity and mechanical strength, the graphene was modified by two different methods. Then the SPAES/graphene hybrid membranes were fabricated from different graphene contents. We compared performance of composite membrane with different preparing method of graphene and content of modified graphene. The morphology of the composite membranes has been investigated using SEM. Chemical structure of modified graphene was analyzed using by FT-IR and EDX. The proton conductivity and methanol permeability of the hybrid membranes were studied with changing graphene content from 0.5 to 3.0 wt.%. The SPAES/modified graphene composite membranes showed high proton conductivity (0.21 S/cm) compared with the SPAES membrane (0.09 S/cm) at $80^{\circ}C$ and 100% relative humidity condition. And the methanol permeability was decreased linearly as the content of modified graphene increased from 0 to 1.5 wt%.

  • In this study, the thermal conductivity, physical and mechanical properties of lightweight aggregate concretes with hollow micro sphere(HMS) are experimentally examined as a basic research for the development of structural insulation concrete. As the results of this experiment, in the case of concrete mixed with HMS, the value of slump has been reduced, so it is found that the dosage of superplasticizer should be increased. As the replacement ratio of HMS increases, it has shown that the compressive strength is somewhat decreased due to the low interfacial adhesion strength of HMS. But the thermal conductivity is found to be greatly improved with the replacement ratio of HMS increases, the thermal conductivity of HMS shows the lower value of 68% at lightweight aggregate concrete and 32% of normal concrete. Also it is found that the compressive strength is decreased and thermal conductivity is increased as the water-cement ratio increases. The most outstanding for insulation performance is observed when using 20% of HMS and 50% of water-cement ratio.
