  • Aluminum was used as metallic bipolar plate material to reduce a stack weight. The functional materials such as conductive material, Au and nonconductive material, PTFE [polytetrafluoroethylene] were coated on the bipolar plate to enhance electrical contact and corrosion prevention in PEMFC. The active area of bipolar plate is divided into the top layer part that electric current mainly passes, and the bottom layer part that gas and water pass. The bottom layer part in the flow channel needs not to have electrical conductivity because it doesn't pass electric current directly. In this reason, Au on the top layer and PTFE on the bottom layer were coated to apply high electrical conductivity and/or good corrosion resistance. Although the single cell performance using Au-PTFE/Al bipolar plate was shown 78% in comparison with that of graphite, specific power of Au-PTFE/Al bipolar plate(0.4 W/g) was twice as much as graphite bipolar plate.

  • This paper presents the fabrication of a micro electromagnetic flow sensor for the liquid flow rate measurement. The micro electromagnetic flow sensor has some advantages such as a simple structure, no heat generation, a rapid response and no pressure loss. The principle of the micro electromagnetic flow sensor is based on Faraday's law. If conductive fluid passes through a magnetic field, the electromotive force is generated and detected by two electrodes on the wall of the flow channel. The flow sensor consists of two permanent magnets and a silicon flow channel with two electrodes. The dimension of the flow sensor is $9\;mm\;{\times}\;9\;mm\;{\times}\;1\;mm$. The micro flow channel is mainly fabricated by anisotropic etching of two silicon wafers, and the detection electrodes are fabricated by metal evaporation process. The characteristic of the fabricated flow sensor is obtained experimentally. When the flow rates of water with the conductance of $100-200\;{\mu}S/cm$ are 9.1 ml/min and 62 ml/min, the generated electromotive forces are $261\;{\mu}V$ and 7.3 mV, respectively.

  • In this study, we investigated the effect of groove pattern and gap-fill with lossy materials at 15 GHz frequency of Ku-band. We used Epoxy/MWCNT composite materials as gap-fill materials. Although epoxy does not have an absorbance capability, epoxy added conductive fillers, which are multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), can function as radar absorbing material. Specimens were fabricated with different MWCNT mass fractions (0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 wt%) and their permittivity in the Ku-band was measured using the waveguide technique. We investigated the effect of gap-fill on monostatic RCS by calculating RCS with and without gap-fill. For arbitrarily chosen thickness and experimentally obtained relative permittivity, we chose the relative permittivity of MWCNT at 2 wt% (${\varepsilon}_r$=8.8-j2.4), which was the lowest reflection coefficient for given thickness of 3.3 mm at V-pol. and $80^{\circ}$ incident angle. We also checked the monostatic RCS and the field intensity inside the groove channel. In the case of H-pol, gap-fill was not affected by the monostatic RCS and magnitude was similar with or without gap-fill. However, in the case of V-pol, gap-fill effectively reduced the monostatic RCS. The field intensity inside the groove channel reveals that different RCS behaviors depend on the wave polarizations.

  • The Fabric Electrode was proposed for the effective production of the display based on electrowetting in this paper and designed the source driver of flexible display which could be driven by the electrowetting cell. The electrowetting cell matrix was implemented on the substrate(PET) by imprinting. The driver fabric, wetting electrode fabric and conductive fabric was placed horizontally and vertically in the groove between cell matrix and the electrowetting cell matrix can be driven by the cross-point as electric connection. The integration density of driver module is decreased because using the R/2R DAC module per channel in the conventional method. The proposed method could utilize the effective production process and reduce the production price of a display panel. The source driver which consume lower power and can increase the integration density because of reducing the number of driver device per channel was designed and evaluate the driver operation by the simulation using the VHDL programming in this paper.

  • Conjugate heat transfer from a heat generating module ($31{\times}31{\times}7mm^3$) bonded through the module support on the floor of a parallel-plate channel(20mm high, 400mm wide, and 800mm long) to mixed convective air flow(0.2${\sim}$0.9m/s) is studied experimentally. The input power to the module is changed in a range 1.0${\sim}$4.5W, the floor thickness 0.2${\sim}$5mm, and the thermal resistance of module support, Rc:=0.06, 1.03 and 82.0K/W. Thermal conductance(Uc) of the board and convective thermal conductance($U_A$) from the module were derived, and the effect of V; Rc and t on Uc was investigated. It is found that the conjugate conductance (Uc) and the conductive heat transfer ratio ($Q_B$/Q) depend on the thermal resistance of the module support, the air velocity and the board thickness. The change of the module support resistance and the board thickness helps to elucidate the relative significance of heat transfer paths through the module support, the board, and from the board surface to the air. Additional information is investigated about the dependence of the heat transfer rate on the mixed convection parameter.

  • Predicting heat transfer from the inner wall of the combustion chamber of the liquid rocket is a very difficult task. Several complex processes, such as convection, radiation and conduction must be taken into consideration. Usually commercial programs are used for the analysis of this processes. However, commercial programs are not a perfect solution, because of the long calculation times and a burdening data-input work. In this study, we developed and implemented one - dimensional thermal analysis. This technique can be easily used on the initial stage. The design of the combustion chamber's cooling channel of the steam generator designed using developed technique. In order to compare experimental and theoretical data, the combustion test was performed. Obtained experimental data for the coolant temperature differ from the theoretical prediction by only 8.5%.

  • An electrochemically and photochemically polymerizable monomer, 2-((2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b] [1,4]dioxin-2-yl)methoxy)ethyl methacrylate (EDOT-EMA), was explored for patterning of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) via side chain cross-linking. The polymer from EDOT-EMA was deposited electrochemically to produce polymeric EDOT (PEDOT-EMA), which was directly photo-patterned by UV light as the side EMA groups of PEDOT-EMA were polymerized to give cross-linked EMA (PEDOT-PEMA). Absorption and FTIR studies of the UV-exposed film (PEDOT-PEMA) indicated that the photo-patterning mainly originated from the photo cross-linking of the methacrylates in the side-chain. After irradiation of the film, the conductivity of the irradiated area decreased from $5.6{\times}10^{-3}$ S/cm to $7.2{\times}10^{-4}$ S/cm, possibly due to bending of the conductive PEDOT channel as a result of the side chain cross-linking. The patterned film was applied to a solid state electrochromic (EC) cell to obtain micro-patterned EC cells with lines up to 5 ${\mu}m$ wide.

  • The present research is an experimental study of subcooled flow boiling behavior using flat, microporousenhanced square heater surfaces in pure FC-72. Two $1-cm^{2}$ copper surfaces, one highly polished (plain) and one microporous coated, were flush-mounted into a 12.7 mm square, horizontal flow channel. Testing was performed for fluid velocities ranging from 0.5 to 4 m/s (Reynolds numbers from 18,700 to 174,500) and pure subcooling levels from 4 to 20 K. Results showed both surfaces' nucleate flow boiling curves collapsed to one line showing insensitivity to fluid velocity and subcooling. The log-log slope of the microporous surface nucleate boiling curves was lower than the plain surface due to the conductive thermal resistance of the microporous coating layer. Both, increased fluid velocity and subcooling, increase the CHF values for both surfaces, however, the already enhanced boiling characteristics of the microporous coating appear dominant and require higher fluid velocities to provide additional enhancement of CHF to the microporous surface.

  • The paper discusses the modelling of the thermal storage roof with the air circulation system. In this system, the fully glazed absorber plate is put on the top of the conventional pitch roof made of massive concrete and acts as a solar air heater. Solar radiation collected into absorber is stored in the roof structure by radiation and convection so that it reduces the nighttime heating load through the roof. Another part of the energy is also transmitted to internal air drawn into the channel and is then introduced Into the room. To analysis the system, the energy balance equations are developed and are solved using a finite difference method. The calculation results show a good agreement with the measured ones obtained from our experiments. From the results, it is seen that the thermal storage roof with the air circulation system reduces significantly the conductive heat loss compared with that for the conventional roof and has the instantaneous solar collection efficiency of about 30%.
