  • The inductance difference between conducting layers of high-Tc superconducting (HTSC) power transmission cable causes the current sharing of each conducting layer to be unequal, which decreases the current transmission capacity of HTSC power cable. Therefore, the design for even current sharing in HTSC power transmission cable is required. In this paper, we investigated the current distribution of HTSC power cable with a shield layer dependent on the pitch length and the winding direction of each layer. To analyze the effect of the shield layer on the current sharing of the conducting layers of HTSC power cable, the current distribution of HTSC power cable without a shield layer was compared with the case of HTSC power cable with a shield layer. It could be found through the analysis from the computer simulations that the shield layer of HTSC power cable could be contributed to the improvement of current distribution of conducting layers at the specific pitch length and the winding direction of conducting layer. The result and discussion for the current distribution calculated for HTSC power transmission cable with a shield layer were presented and compared with the cable without a shield layer.

  • High-$T_c$ superconducting (HTSC) power cable is one of the interesting parts in power application using HTSC wire. However, its stacked structure makes the current distribution between conducting layers non-uniform due to difference between self inductances of conducting layers and mutual inductances between two conducting layers, which results in lower current transmission capacity of HTSC power cable. In this paper, the transport current distribution between conducting layers was investigated through the numerical analysis for the equivalent circuit of HTSC power cable with a shield layer, and compared with the case of without a shield layer. The transport current distribution due to the increase of the contact resistance in each layer was improved. However, its magnetization loss increased as the contact resistance increased. It was confirmed from the analysis that the shield layer was contributed to the improvement of the current distribution between conducting layers if the winding direction and the pitch length were properly chosen.

  • In this paper, it is shown that high frequency current can be controlled to concentrate near the desired path in a conducting plate. A conducting plate is modelled to examine current distribution. And current distribution is analyzed in view of the frequency and geometric characteristics of current path. The high frequency current behavior from the analysis is compared with the experiments. The results, obtained by the experiments of test specimens, are in good agreement with the analytical results.

  • With increasing demand of power, the equipment of power system is enlarging and the absolute capacity is going up. As a result, when a fault occurs, the fault current is consistently increasing. Therefore, I suggested some solution for limiting the fault current more efficiently. This study shows the characteristics of superconducting limiting elements and normal conducting elements combined with a transformer. We performed a short-circuit test about the fault current by using SCR switching control system operated from a CT. When short circuit accidents happened in the secondary side of a transformer, fault currents flowed and a SCR switching control system was operated. It resulted in a decrease of the fault current in the limited elements of third winding connected in parallel. For this test, we used YBCO thin films and normal conducting elements as the limited elements. Within a cycle, a superconducting fault current limiter with YBCO thin films reduced more than 90% of fault current because the resistance of superconducting elements sustainedly grew. On the other hand, the limiter with normal conductors limited as much as a set value because its resistance characteristic was linear. Consequently, in case of the limiter with superconductor, limiting range of the circuit was wide but the range of protective detection was undefined. In contrast, as for the limiter with normal conductors, limiting range and protection duty were appropriate.

  • In this paper, a thin-straight monopole antenna attached to a conducting box is analyzed using a moment method with the pocklington integral expression for the exact Green's function. A modeling of a conducting box is based on a Wire-Grid method for an efficient calculation procedure. A system of linear equation is obtained using the piecewise sinusoidal basis function. And a Junction basis function is enforcing to represent the physical current on the edge of the conducting box. Especially, the junction basis functions are overlapped for the current continuity preserving on the vertexes. Numerical results are obtained for the current distribution on the unified antenna/conducting box system, input impedance and radiation pattern. The results are compared with the known data.

  • Conducting polymers and carbon nanomaterials offer a wide range of applications because of their unique soft conducting properties. Specifically, these conducting polymer-carbon nanocomposites have recently been utilized in bioengineering applications, partly because of their improved biocompatibility compared to conventional conducting materials such as metals and ceramics. Based on the assumption that these composites offer an important application potential as functional materials for biomedical devices or even as biomaterials, this review surveys the recent research trends on conducting polymers-carbon nanocomposites, focusing on bioengineering applications such as polyaniline (PANI), poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) or PEDOT, polypyrrole (Ppy), and carbon nanotubes and graphene.

  • Design of current lead for 21T superconducting magnets is presented. The current lead is composed of a normal metal element, conducting the current from room temperature to intermediate temperature, and an HTS element, conducting the current down to liquid helium temperature. The metal element is disengaged from the HTS element without breaking vacuum after excitation. The optimization of the lead is performed to minimize the thermal heat load when carrying operational current with some margin. In order to confirm the feasibility of our new design, the intermediate joint between a normal metal and HTS element is fabricated and the reliability is tested during engage and disengage performance. The effects of vacuum level and performance cycle on the electrical contact resistance are also investigated.

  • The electrical property of ultra thin PVA films(several hundreds .angs.-several .mu.m in thickness) formed by sphere bulb blowing technique, has been studied. The electrical conductivity of relatively thick films(>several thousands .angs.) has been very high and enhanced by the exposure either to high humidity of air or $NH_3$, which can be explained in terms of the role of ionic transport. The use of PVA films as NH$_{3}$ sensor is also proposed. In ultra thin PVA films less than 1500.angs., two conducting states ; high conducting and low conducting states, are observed. The nonlinear current-voltage characteristics in the low conducting state and the switching between these two states are also confirmed. These properties are discussed in terms of electronic conduction processes. The breakdown strength of the ultra thin PVA film is found to be very high(-30MV/cm), supporting the electron avalanche process in a thick polymer films.

  • Efficient numerical method is developed for treating electromagnetic problems of scattering and radiation from surfaces. Special consideration is given to the treatment of edges so that rather arbitrary geometrical configurations may be handled. For the conducting body problems considered, an electric field integral formulation is used, and the method of moments is applied using pulse expantions to present currents. Numerial results indicate that the approach is free os anomalies in the behavior of current for body of revoution.
