By using the heat recovery of water-cooled chillers, it is possible to reduce the energy operating costs positively and at the same time it could fulfill the heating re-heat air conditioning system as well as the hot water requirements. Basically templifiers are designed to economically to turn the waste heat into useful heat. Waste heat is extracted from a fluid stream by cooling it in the evaporator, the compressor amplifies the temperature of the heat and the condenser delivers the heat to heating loads such as space heating, kitchens and domestic hot water. Design of higher water temperature requirements and split condenser heat recovery chiller system (using of templifiers) produced hotter condenser water approximately up to $60^{\circ}C$ and control the entire heat recovery system.
In order to utilize the condensation heat of refrigerants in condenser on the absorption chiller system, the solution cooled condenser (SCC) was proposed using the weak solution of absorber as a cooling medium. The increase of COP with the increase of UA of the solution cooled condenser was approximately 0.009 in maximum with single effect one, and is about maximum 0.008 in occasion of double effect one with series flow compared to that without. In the case of heat exchanger, effectiveness is about 0.85, it's increments are 0.008 and 0.0072, respectively. And solution cooled condenser is more effective device in the single effect absorption system than double effect system for the principle of operation. On the other hand, as the solution split ratio increases when the value of UA is fixed, COP is increased and as the solution split ratio increases when the value of UA is fixed, COP is increased. If the flow rate of cooling water or the value of UA is reduced in order to increases the heat recovery of solution cooled condenser, heat recovery of solution cooled condenser is increased a little but COP is decreased as the system pressure is increased.
Recovered heat has been considered as a renewable energy in Europe since 2008 because its great effect on energy saving and carbon decreasing in plant process. Energy saving and decreasing green gas are critical issue today, so various technologies to save energy and decrease carbon dioxide in plant process have been applied to many industrial area. In this paper, the feasibility of condenser heat recovery by heat pump in power plant for district heating and fuel line preheating were reviewed by verifying energy (heat) balance and mass balance of power plant model. Some ways to compose proper system to recover heat of condenser are suggested and their possibilities are also reviewed. Limitations on heat recovery in power plant are also reviewed. The results are verified by calculating input/output energy based on actual performance test data of Taean Thermal Power Plant in Korea. There is noticeable improvement of plant performance in some cases which demand low temperature (<100 C) heat like distrcit heating, fuel line heating, and so forth.
Organic Rankine cycle (ORC) is an useful cycle for power generation system with low temperature heat sources ($80{\sim}400^{\circ}C$). Since the boiling point of operating fluid is low, the system is used to recover the low temperature heat source of waste heat energy. In this study, a ORC with R134a is applied to recover the waste energy of condenser of coal fired power plant. A system model is developed via Thermolib$^{(R)}$ under Simulink/MATLAB environment. The model is composed of a refrigerant heat exchanger for heat recovery from coal fired condenser, a drum, turbine, heat exchanger for ORC heat rejection, storage tank, water recirculation pump and water drip pump. System analysis parameters were heat recovery capacity, type of refrigerants, and types of turbines. The simulation model is used to analyze the heat recovery capacity of ORC power system. As a result, increasing the overall heat transfer coefficient to become the largest of turbine power is the most economical.
The present study has been conducted to develop a heat pipe heat exchanger for middle-high temperature ranged from 300 to $600^{\circ}C$. Heat transfer rate, overall heat transfer coefficient and temperature effectiveness were investigated using a heat pipe heat exchanger with Dowtherm A as working fluid. Theoretical analysis was also conducted, and the followings were obtained: (1) Heat exchange rate increased as waste gas temperature supplied to evaporator and frontal velocity in condenser increased, (2) Overall heat transfer coefficient increased by $3{\sim}7\%$ as frontal velocity in evaporator and condenser increased, (3) Temperature effectiveness was about $30\%$ in evaporator and was about $40\%$ in condenser, (4) Heat recovery rate was about $38\%$, (5) Pressure drop did not exceed $8\;mmH_{2}O$ under the running condition of $1{\sim}3Nm/s$, (6) Simulation results were corresponded with experimental results.
A novel design process of a parallel multi-flow type air-cooled condenser of a dual-loop waste heat recovery system with Rankine steam cycles for improving the fuel efficiency of gasoline automobiles has been investigated focusing on reduction of the pressure drop inside the micro-tubes. The low temperature condenser plays a role to dissipate heat from the system by condensing the low temperature loop working fluid sufficiently. However, the refrigerant has low evaporation temperature enough to recover the waste from engine coolant of about $100^{\circ}C$ but has small saturation enthalpy so that excessive mass flow rate of the LT working fluid, e.g., over 150 g/s, causes enormously large pressure drop of the working fluid to maintain the heat dissipation performance of more than 20 kW. This paper has dealt with the scheme to design the low temperature condenser that has reduced pressure drop while ensuring the required thermal performance. The number of pass, the arrangement of the tubes of each pass, and the positions of the inlet and outlet ports on the header are most critical parameters affecting the flow uniformity through all the tubes of the condenser. For the purpose of the performance predictions and the parametric study for the LT condenser, we have developed a 1-dimensional user-friendly performance prediction program that calculates feasibly the phase change of the working fluid in the tubes. An example is presented through the proposed design process and compared with an experiment.
The objective of this study is to investigate the performance of a heat recovery heat pump dryer using a R245fa refrigerant experimentally. In this study, the main components of the heat pump dryer were an evaporator, a compressor, a condenser, and an expansion valve. As a result, when the amount of refrigerant varied from 15 kg to 16 kg, the hot air outlet temperature in the condenser and the heat transfer rate were almost kept constant. Therefore, the amount of refrigerant at 16 kg was considered to be a suitable amount in the heat pump. As the air inlet velocity varied from 0.5 m/s to 1.5 m/s, the highest temperature in the condenser could be obtained when the air inlet velocity was 0.5 m/s. The heat transfer rate, system (COP), and hot air outlet temperature were 5.6 kW, 3.4, and $102.5^{\circ}C$, respectively, when the bypass ratio and water temperature were 0% and $60^{\circ}C$.
The concept of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) is simple and various types of OTEC have been proposed and tried. However the location of OTEC is limited because OTEC requires $20^{\circ}C$ of temperature difference as a minimum, so most of OTEC plants were constructed and experimented in tropical oceans. To solve this we proposed the modified OTEC which uses condenser discharged thermal energy of existing fossil or nuclear power plants. We call this system CTEC (Condenser Thermal Energy Conversion) as this system directly uses $32^{\circ}C$ partially saturated steam in condenser instead of $20{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ surface sea water as heat source. Increased temperature difference can improve thermal efficiency of Rankine cycle, but CTEC should be located near existing plant condenser and the length of cold water pipe between CTEC and deep cold sea water also increase. So friction loss also increases. Calculated result shows the change of efficiency, pumping power, net power and other parameters of modeled 7.9 MW CTEC at given condition. The calculated efficiency of CTEC is little larger than that of typical OTEC as expected. By proper location and optimization, CTEC could be considered another competitive renewable energy system.
This paper provides an economic analysis of a new geothermal heat pump system that reuses condenser waste heat from a Ground Source Heat Pump ($GSHP_{ch}$) to provide energy for a hot water Ground Source heat pump ($GSHP_{hw}$). After conducting feasibility tests using GLD and TRNSYS simulations, the proposed system was effectively installed and thoroughly tested. We observe that 1) the Coefficient of Performance (COP) of the $GSHP_{hw}$ and the $GSHP_{ch}$ during cooling mode improves by up to 62% and 7%, respectively; 2) the number of bore holes can be reduced by two; and 3) the hot water supply temperature of the $GSHP_{hw}$ increases by up to $60^{\circ}C$. We further conclude that 1) the reduction of two bore holes can save approximately ten million Won from the initial cost investment; and 2) the increased COP of the $GSHP_{hw}$ can save approximately one million Won in annual electricity costs.
Exploitation of renewable energies is on the increase to mitigate the reliance on fossil fuels and other natural gases with rocketing prices currently due to the depletion of their reserves not to mention their diverse consequences on the environment. Divergently, there are lots of industries "throwing" heat at higher temperatures as by products into the environment. This waste heat can be recovered through organic Rankine systems and converted to electrical energy with a waste heat recovery organic Rankine cycle system (WHR-ORC). This study uses the annual average condenser effluent from Namhae power plant as heat source and surface seawater as cooling source to analyze a waste heat recovery organic Rankine cycle using the Aspen HYSYS simulation software package. Hydrocarbon mixtures are employed as working fluid and varied in a ratio of 9:1. Results indicate that Pentane/Isobutane (90/10) mixture is the favorable working fluid for optimizing the waste heat recovery organic Rankine cycle at the set simulation conditions.
