As the importance of maintenance of reinforced concrete structure recently has emerged, the attention of durability of structure has been increasing. There are many studies about durability decline especially due to the carbonation. In order to study carbonation progress after surface repair of carbonated concrete, each carbonation penetration velocity from different repair materials of concrete structure is compared through the experiment of carbonation accelerating CO2 concentration to 20% and 100%. As carbonation infiltration progress is predicted through this study, the counterplan of service life evaluation will be prepared on selection of repair materials of concrete structure.
Nowadays various studies related with superstructure of bridges are developed and they pursuit more effective section of bridges superstructure, material and economical application of composite materials. CFT structure(Concrete Filled Steel Tubular Structure) is developed type of composite structure that concrete is filled with steel box, and the deformation of the member, stiffness and internal force will be improved by confinement effect of steel box and concrete. This paper introduces new type of girder, CFTA girder( Concrete- Filled and Tied Steel Tubular Arch Girder) which is combined with traditional CFT structure, arch effect and prestress through carrying out the structural analysis by computer programs. The computer programs which is used are ABAQCS and MIDAS, and the 12.2m girder which is applied same load and prestresses is analyzed and compared the results respectively.
Progressive collapse is one of the factors which if not predicted at the time of structure plan; its occurrence will lead to catastrophic damages. Through having a glance over important structures chronicles in the world, we will notice that the reason of their collapse is a minor damage in structure caused by an accident like a terrorist attack, smashing a vehicle, fire, gas explosion, construction flaws and its expanding. Progressive collapse includes expanding rudimentary rupture from one part to another which leads to total collapse of a structure or a major part it. This study examines the progressive collapse of a 5-story concrete building with three column eliminating scenarios, including the removal of the corner, side and middle columns with the ABAQUS software. Then the beams and the bottom of the concrete slab were reinforced by (reinforcement of carbon fiber reinforced polymer) FRP and then the structure was re-analyzed. The results of the analysis show that the reinforcement of carbon fiber reinforced polymer sheets is one of the effective ways to rehabilitate and reduce the progressive collapse in concrete structures.
The most agricultural concrete structures for the irrigation and drainage are exposed to the underwater condition at the irrigation period and they take the influence on very severe cold in the winter. Therefore, it is impossible to use repair materials used to the general concrete structures. The research need the development of the repair material for a performance enhance of the agricultural underwater concrete structures. This research evaluated the mechanical and durability performance of the latex modified repair mortar for underwater concrete structures which peformed the repair in the underwater according to the characteristic of the agricultural concrete structure. The latex modified repair mortar is a material that minimize the effect of the ecosystem, environment and the segregation. In this research, the construction condition of the latex modified repair mortar for agricultural concrete structures was considered and the test specimens made in the underwater condition. Test results was then compared with target performance and commercial repair mortar. Experimental test results indicated that the mechanical and durability performance of latex modified repair mortar for agricultural underwater concrete structure satisfied all target performance. Also, the latex modified repair mortar resulted in better repair performance than the commercial repair mortar.
The objective of this study was to examine the effect of repair mortar on the dynamic properties such as natural frequencies, mode shape and damping ratios of two story single span scale reinforced concrete building. To this end, two story single span scale reinforced concrete building having dimensions of 150 cm (width), 150 cm (length) and 135 cm (height) was constructed. Workmanship defects such as separation of material, faulty vibration application and bad gradation of the structure were properly evaluated. Dynamic properties of damaged structure were experimentally determined using Operational Modal Analysis (OMA). Detected defects in the structure were fixed by plastering with repair mortar. Dynamic properties of repaired structure were reevaluated by using the OMA method. Finite element software called Abaqus was used to numerically determine dynamic properties of the structure. Structure modeled as solid was subjected to Linear Perturbation Frequency Method. The changes in dynamic properties of structure after the repair process were comparatively studied by evaluating experimental and numerical results.
In order to traffic safety during winter season, snowfall and cold area has been spread the deicing chemicals, and the spraying amount is increasing every year. Use of deicing chemicals has been and will continue to be a major part of highway snow and ice control methods. Chloride-containing chemicals such as calcium chloride or rock salt are main deicers for the road. Extensive use of chloride deicers is, however, the source of substantial cost penalties due to their corrosive action and acceleration to deterioration concrete structures. Deterioration due to de-icer salt occurs in practice in concrete pavement, dike, barrier and similar structure. This paper reports the results of effect of de-icer salt on durability of concrete structure in winter. To protect concrete structure from damage by de-icer salt in winter, the exposure test was performed using three methods such as increase in design strength upto 32MPa application of granulated blast furnace slag powder, and concrete sealer. Of these, the method of increase in design strength upto 32MPa showed better durability for deterioration by de-icer salt.
One of the principal causes of the deterioation of coastal concrete structures is the corrosion of reinforcing steel induced by the attack of chloride ions. An experimental study was performed to investigate the distribution of concentration of chloride ions in a coastal concrete structure and to measure the half-cell potential of embedded steel by using the copper-copper sulfate reference electrode. Quantitative analysis showed that the concentration of chloride ion in the aqueous phase near the surface of embedded steel exceeded a threshold value for corrosion, 0.05% by weight in concrete. The absolute value of half-cell potential at some members of embedded steel was measured to be higher than 350mV, indicating that the probability of corrosion is more than 90%. The prediction on corrosion based on the experimental measurements was confirmed by the observation of corrosion on the surface of steel bars in the concrete core taken out of the concrete structure.
This study was performed to develop the lightweight polymer concrete using expanded clay and perlite to improve workability, durability and chemical resistance for bottom draining structure under severe condition. This paper was composed of two parts. One is to invest the physical and mechanical properties of lightweight polymer concrete using synthetic lightweight aggregate, the other is to the develop products for bottom draining structure. Physical and mechanical test for lightweight polymer concrete was performed unit weight, compressive and flexural strength, chemical resistance, accelerated weathering test, absorption ratio and optimum mix for lightweight polymer concrete was designed. Also, products for bottom draining structures by optimum mix of lightweight polymer concrete was made draining trench of small size.

Carbonation is a widespread degradation of concrete and may be coupled with more severe degradations. An experimental investigation was carried out to study the effect of carbonation on chloride ion diffusion of concrete. The characteristic of concrete after carbonation was measured, such as carbonation depth, strength and pore structure. Results indicated that carbonation depth has a good linear relation with square root of carbonate time, and carbonation can improve compressive strength, but lower flexural strength. Results about pore structure of concrete before and after carbonation have shown that carbonation could cause a redistribution of the pore sizes and increase the proportion of small pores. It also can decrease porosities, most probable pore size and average pore diameters. Chloride ion diffusion of concrete after carbonation was studied through natural diffusion method and steady state migration testing method respectively. It is supposed that the chloride ion concentration of carbonation region is higher than that of the sound region because of the separation of fixed salts, and chloride ion diffusion coefficient was increased due to carbonation action evidently.
