The rapid expansion of buildings and paved roads increases the risk of flood disaster in an urban area. One of the solutions can be the use of permeable pavements. This study evaluated the permeability of permeable blocks used for the roadway pavement. Joint fillers and mat sands of the investigated blocks met the corresponding standards. The flexural strength of the blocks was 5.29 MPa to meet these standards. Based on interior permeability test results after pollution, the four products evaluated were categorized into the following three levels: One for the $1^{st}$ level, one for the $2^{nd}$ level and two for the $3^{rd}$ level. From the field permeability test and pervious concrete infiltration test results nine months after their construction, all the products except one passed the quality standards of 0.1 mm/s.
Ihe purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects the storage type of permeable concrete block paving (ST-PCBP) have on runoff reduction and infiltration increasement at Andong Maskdance Festival Square. This was accomplished using the NRCS-curve number method over the last 10 years. Two different scenarios were developed in this study for low impact development (LID) design. For the $1^{st}$ scenario, the walking path and parking lot were install using the ST-PCBP and runoff from the inline skating rink ($3,808m^2$) and lawn ($11,191m^2$) were routed to the ST-PCBP, but the rooftop runoff flowed into the storm water drainage system. For the $2^{nd}$ scenario, one of the non-structural BMPs, disconnected impervious surface (DIS), was applied so additional runoff from rooftop would enter the ST-PCBP. It was determined that ST-PCBP could significantly reduce surface runoff from the study area and increase infiltration with 71% and 88% of surface runoff reduction and 151% and 215% of infiltration increasement for scenarios 1 and 2, respectively. The effect of LID in the $2^{nd}$ scenario was better than the $1^{st}$ scenario, therefore DIS in conjunction with ST-PCBP could be a more cost-effective LID application.
Recently, block and permeable pavements have been placed in apartment complex. However. it is hard to decide the cycle of maintenance and repair due to lack of performance evaluation criteria for these pavements. This study carried out life cycle cost analysis(LCCA) to present resonable alternatives of the pavements by considering initial construction cost, maintenance and repair cost along with the cycle of repair. According to results of LCCA, the interlocking concrete block pavement is the best alternative when the repair cycle of 20years is assumed, while asphalt concrete pavement is the best alterative when the repair cycle of 10years is assumed. Therefore, the repair cycle is most important factor to select alternative. Also, it is necessary to develop resonable performance evaluation index to quantify the cycle of maintenance and repair in the future.
Reduced greenhouse gas effect induced by LID (Low Impact Development) technique application in tramway construction was quantified to increase environmental benefit as part of an overall economic assessment. In addition, by application of penetration type permeable blocks, the effect of the urban water cycle was examined as a special assessment item in the policy analysis. The carbon emission ratios of the permeable turf block, according to the turf coverage rate (100%, 50% granite, and 50% HDPE), against the concrete track construction were -184.7%, -127.3%, and -116.3%, respectively. The carbon emission ratios of permeable blocks with granite and HDPE were 30.1% and 52.5%. In the case of the penetration type permeable block, it was possible to store rainfall in the block until 90mm/hr of rainfall intensity (94.3% of water reserve rate); therefore, this method was effective as part of the urban water cycle system. As a result, an increased environmental benefit from LID technique application is expected in tramway construction; this needs to be considered as a policy factor in AHP analysis.

This study was conducted to recycle flotation tailings as non-sintered construction materials considering the economic and eco-friendly treatments. The particle size distribution( median $220\;{\mu}m$) of flotation tailings from Soon-shin mine was confirmed to be larger than that(median $140\;{\mu}m$) of tailings from Sam-kwang mine. Thus we investigated the properties of non-sintered eco-brick producted with the tailings from Sam-kwang mine and non-sintered water permeable block producted with the tailings from Soon-shin mine. Compressive strength of non-sintered water permeable block which was made with less than 25 wt% of tailings from Soon-shin mine was met with products class(over 14.70 MPa) of water permeable concrete(EL 245) from KEITL. Meanwhile, the coefficient of its permeability wasn't met with the products class( over $1.0{\times}10^{-2}\;cm/sec$). The properties of non-sintered eco-brick with less than 40 wt% of tailings from Sam-kwang mine were satisfied with third class in sintered clay brick products standard(KS L 4201). The non-sintered eco-brick as a result of leaching test on heavy metals by KSLT was verified to be environmentally stabile.

In general, calcium is required for the reaction of blast furnace slag fine powder and fly ash. The by-products generated during the process of producing recycled aggregates have different calcium contents depending on the crushing stage and the possibility of using the process by-product as a concrete mixture is also different. In this study, the effect of the calcium content of the by-products on the compressive strength was investigated and the block was fabricated by using this. To utilize the by-products as an admixture, the calcium content was analyzed and the bending strength and surface temperature were measured according to the shape of the water storage block. As a result of this study, the possibility of making a block using recycled aggregate by-products was verified and arch type block was constructed to secure storage capacity and bending strength. Also, the surface temperature of the water storage block was reduced by $9^{\circ}C$ or more than that of the general permeable block.
Rising sea levels along the coast from global warming causes the increase of wave energy along the coast. This rise in sea levels results in relatively deep water levels, which would incur the loss of sand that had not occurred in the past from erosion in coastal areas. Generally, it has been challenging to protect against coastal erosion, and the slope, cross-sectional shape, and materials are selected for the site conditions depending on the change in external forces. However, the application of counter measures based on insufficient understanding of the phenomenon is causing various damage, indicating the need for technological development and converging technologies to improve credibility. In this study, we developed eco-friendly permeable biopolymer concrete blocks to control the coastal erosion by using the Bio-Coast, an effective porous structure that mitigates the destructive erosion caused by the rising sea levels. The hexagonal design of Bio-Coast was derived from the honeycomb, columnar joints, and clover, which are durable and stable structures in nature, and the design was changed to apply bumps on the Bio-Coast filling in the form of a clover to reduce wave overtopping and run-up. Applying the field condition of beaches on the east coast of Korea, the block weight and size were decided and the prototype blocks were manufactured and are ready for field placement. In particular, it is intended to protect coastal areas from destructive erosion by natural and artificial external forces, and to extend the design to river,s lakes, and natural walking trails, to improve the efficiency of quality control and process control through the use of blocks.

Recently, the importance of choosing correct pavement materials has been increasing in urban spaces and streets. Much research regarding the pavement theory and construction method have been conducted, but analysis in terms of human psychological character has not yet been performed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the psychological characters to 12 pavement materials, that are commonly used in our urban spaces and streets. The results of the psychological character for each pavement material can be summarized as follows: 1. The psychological characters to each pavement material were as follows: ① Clay embodies a natural, traditional, soft and intimate psychological character; ② Pebble stone has a natural, hard, cool and intimate psychological character; ③ Turf grass incorporates an intimate and soft psychological character; ④ Ceramic brick has an artificial and hard psychological character; ⑤ Tile pavement has a modern, artificial, hard and cool psychological character; ⑥ Water permeable concrete has a modern and artificial psychological character; ⑦ Flag stone has a natural psychological character; ⑧ Granite has a modern and artificial psychological character; ⑨ Portland concrete has an artificial and hard psychological character; ⑩ Small compacted brick has an artificial, dynamic and modern psychological character; ⑪ Wood block pavement has a natural and traditional psychological character; ⑫ Asphalt concrete pavement has a modern, hard and artificial character. 2. On the results of the cluster analysis regarding psychological indexes for 12 pavement materials, pavement materials were categorized in 3 clusters. Among them, one cluster was mainly used as the most popular pavement material in our urban spaces and streets. From this point of view, psychological character for pavement material in our urban spaces and streets was not as various as we expected. 3. In conclusion, the proper selection of pavement materials was very important and the factors affecting the human psychological character should be considered in the design of urban spaces and streets.
In these days, it attracts our attention to create a green outdoor environment around the building block in urban area. Green space and permeable ground covering are increased by laws and regulations. According to these trends, variety researches for improving outdoor environment are accomplished at this moment. However, the problems for outdoor environment such as heat island effect and air contaminant in urban area are still reported. The purpose of this study is to examine the variables to affect the formation of outdoor thermal environment by quantitative analysis. As a initial study, in this paper, the effect of ground composition on changes of surface temperature and heat flux in multi-residential building were analyzed by field measurement and numerical simulation. Through field measurement, the surface temperature and heat flux of artificial ground in multi-residential building in Suwon city were measured. The result showed that the surface temperature was decreased by about $20^{\circ}C$ with afforestation of artificial ground compared with those of concrete covering. Moreover, the inner temperature of artificial ground was changed as same behaviors of outdoor temperature changes to depths of 20cm. In simulation, the effect of soil types and depth of artificial ground on the changes of the surface temperature and heat flux were analyzed. As results, the natural soil ground was more effective against lowering the surface temperature than any other cases in the analyzed cases.
