To estimate the probability of short term concentration of air pollution using long term arithmetic average concentration, the procedure was developed and added to Texas Climatological Model version 2. In the procedure, such statistical characteristics that frequency distribution of short term concentration may be approximated by a lognormal distribution, were applied. This procedure is capable of estimating not only highest concentration for a variety of averaging times but also concentrations for arbitrary occurrence frequency. Evaluation of the procedure with the results of short term concentrations calculated by Texas Episodic Model version 8 using the meteorological data and emission data in Seoul shows that the procedure estimates concentrations fairly well for wide range of percentiles.
There is an increasing demand for prediction of asbestos concentration which has an fatal effect on human body. While demolishing asbestos, the dust scatters and makes workers be exposed to danger. Up to this date, however, factors that particularly influences have not considered in predicting asbestos concentration. Most of the studies could not quantify the distribution of asbestos. Also, they did not use nominal data on buildings as important factors. Therefore, this study aims to build an asbestos concentration prediction model by quantifying distribution of asbestos and using nominal data of buildings based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN). This model can give significant contribution of improving the safety of workers and be useful for finding effective ways to demolish asbestos in planning.
The distribution of giant duckweed (Spirodela polyrrhiza) and small duckweed (Lemna aequinoctialis) was investigated at lead-zinc mine area and the limiting factors for their distribution were studied by laboratory experiments. The metal investigated of water affected on the growth of giant duckweed and small duckweed. Under filed conditions, both giant duckweed and small duckweed did not persist at more acidic conditions than pH 4.8 or at conditions more than 0.30 ppm of Cd concentration. Giant duckweeds were intolerable, under conditiions with less than 0.30 ppm of Cd and above than 0.07ppm of Zn, but small duckweeds were tolerable under conditions of more than 0.07 ppm of Zn concentration. However, neither can live above 7.50ppm of Zn concentration. These field observations corresponded with the results of the laboratory experiments.
The spatio-temporal distribution of four coexisting acartiid species in two subgenera Acartiura (Acartia hongi and A. omorii) and Odontacartia (A. erythraea and A. pacifica) was examined at seven stations in the southwestern waters of Korea, between January to December 1998. A. hongi occurred dominantly in the northern regions from winter to spring while A. omorii predominated in the southern regions in spring and early summer when the more saline (> 33.0 psu) and high chlorophyll-$\alpha$ concentration water mass appeared. With the increase of temperature (> $20^{\circ}C$), however, both species disappeared and then replaced with A. erythraea and A. pacifica. A. erythraea (rare species), appeared in the middle regions where the high chlorophyll-$\alpha$ concentration ($3{\mu}g\; I^{-1}$) in the summer, while A. pacifica was abundant in all regions through summer and fall. It is suggested that the seasonal succession of the genus Acartia was subgenus-specifically affected by environmental factors such as temperature, salinity and chlorophyll-$\alpha$ concentration.
Objectives: Excretion and tissue distribution of titanium oxide nanoparticles were evaluated in rats after oral administration. The relation between toxicity and systemic concentration of nanoparaticles was investigated. Methods: Rats were orally treated with titanium oxide nanoparticles (10, 100 mg/kg) for five consecutive days. General toxicity, blood chemistry, and serum biochemical analysis were analyzed. Titanium concentration in liver, kidney, lung, urine and feces were measured and histopathology was performed in these organs. Results: Induction of toxicological parameters was not observed and titanium nanoparticles were excreted via feces. Conclusion: Absorption of titanium oxide nanoparticles via the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration was very poor and systemic concentration of titanium oxide nanoparticles was not elevated. Titanium oxide nanoparticles did not cause toxicities in rats after oral administration.
The quality of chaotic mixing in three-dimensional micro channel flow has been numerically studied using Fractional-step method (FSM) and particle tracking techniques such as $Poincar{\acute{e}}$ section and Lyapunov exponents. The flow was driven by pressure distribution and the chaotic mixing was generated by applying alternating current to electrodes embedded on the bottom wall at a first half period and on the top wall at a second half period. The equations governing the velocity and concentration distributions were solved using FSM based on Finite Volume approach. Results showed that the mixing quality depended significantly on the modulation period. The modulation period for the best mixing performance was determined based on the mixing index for various initial conditions of concentration distribution. The optimal values of modulation period obtained by the particle tracking techniques were compared with those from the solution of concentration distribution equation using FSM and CFX software and the comparison showed their good match.
This study demonstrats the profiles of phosphorus ions in silicon by MeV implantation(1∼3 MeV). Implanted profiles could be measured by SIMS(Cameca 4f) and compared with simulation results(TRIM program and analytical description method only using on Pearson function). The experimental result in the peak concentration region has a little bit deviation from simulation data. By RBS and Channeling measurements the defect distribution of implanted samples could be measured and spectrum are calibrated depth with RUMP simulation By XTEM measurement the thickness of defect zone also could be measured. Finally thermal annealing for the electrical activation of implanted ions carried out by RTA(rapid thermal annealing). The concentration-depth profiles after heat treatment was measured by SR(spreading resistance)-method.
Changes in melatonin concentration levels by differences in CCT of white LED light focused on Spectral Power Distribution (SPD) differences compared to the same CCT of conventional fluorescent light were analyzed. For this, melatonin concentration levels in saliva samples were taken over four different experiments at seven-day intervals. In 71.4% of participants, it was confirmed that melatonin concentration is suppressed by exposure to light, and a slight difference was observed by different CCTs. In addition, Experiment II with a high CCT was relatively high in terms of the melatonin suppression rate compared to Experiment III. A key finding was the possibility that different SPDs under a particular CCT of white LED light compared to the same CCT of conventional fluorescent light could have the same effect on the melatonin suppression.
