  • Objective : This study has been carried out to understand the effect of several herbal medicine concentrated solution on the hyperglycemic mice Induced with streptozotocin(STZ). Methods : The 60 mg/kg of STZ injection into mice twice by 24 h interval and then 120 mg/kg of STZ injection again 3 days after the earlier injection. Control group was subjected to natural recovery, however, treated groups were fed 0.2 ml of several herbal medicine-concentrated solution (PA (x2, several herbal medicine-concentrated solution 1 group); PB (x4 several herbal medicine-concentrated solution 2 group) daily for 6 weeks. Result : The weight of PA was higher than that of control, but weight of PB was lower than control. The blood level of control increased continuously, reaching to 350mg/dL after 6 weeks, however, PA and PB showed a fast reduction of blood glucose. In blood glucose tolerance test, PA and PB showed better resistance than control. The GOT level in significantly(p<0.05) decreased in PA and PB compared with control group. The BUN and creatinine levels are significantly(p<0.01) decreased in PA compared with control group. Feeding of several herbal medicine-concentrated solution in a concentration of PA had an efficient effect on regeneration or recovery of Langerhans islet and ${\beta}-cell$ damaged by STZ. More Langerhans islet and high insulin-immunohistochemical resistance were observed in PA compared with control, but they were higher in PB than in PA. The number of Langerhans islet ${\beta}-cell$ and Langerhans islet. Conclusions : The result from the six weeks of observation demonstrates that the several herbal medicine concentrated solution have a positive effect of lowering the level of blood sugar and they increased insulin concentration. They have an effect for recovery of pancreas tissue and recovery of kidney, liver function from a diabetes mellitus.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of concentrated pig slurry separated from membrane filter and by environment-friendly agro-materials mixtures on growth of lettuce in hydroponics. The swine waste treatment system having a ultra filtration and a reverse osmosis process was designed in this study. Filtration of pig slurry was necessary to prevent the hose clogging in hydroponics. Primary separation using ultra filter was followed by concentration by RO (Reverse Osmosis). The concentrated pig slurry (CS) was mixed by five different environment-friendly agro-materials mixtures. The chemical nutrient solution was the solution of National Horticulture Research Station for the growth of lettuce. The concentration of nutrient solution in hydroponics was adjusted a range of 1.5 mS/cm in EC. The concentrated pig slurry was low in phosphorus(P), suspended solid and heavy matal, but rich in potassium (K). The concentrated slurry was lowest in the growth characteristics of leaf lettuce. And also SPAD value in leaf was reduced in plot treated with concentrated slurry. But the growth of lettuce in the mixtures plot (CS+BM+AA, CS+BM+AA+SW) in hydroponics was significantly high compared to concentrated slurry. The fresh yield of lettuce was 78, 84% that of nutrient solution as 131.9, 142.2g in plot of CS+BM+AA and CS+BM+AA+SW, respectively. Our studies have shown that it is possible to produce organic culture using concentrated slurry and environment-friendly agro-materials mixture, although growth is slower than when using a conventional inorganic hydroponic solution.

  • For the purpose of explaining the dewatering phenomena of potato slice soaked in concentrated solution three models were proposed. Earlier model cannot explain the dewatering phenomena of potato slice in concentrated solution because of limiting its condition which is necessary to build a model. Therefore other three models were suggested and a model based on Fick\`s second law of mass transport at infinite plate conditions and numerical analysis was test model for explaining dewatering phenomena of potato soaked in concentrated solution. Apparent diffusion coefficient of water could be readily estimated from model III, and it could explain adequately the difference of the dewatering phenomena of various soaking conditions.

  • Most of the Cyclodextrin glucanotransferase (Gtases) which have been produced from B. subtilis were found to be excreted from the cells during cultivation. Immobilized whole cell CGTase from B. subtilis was prepared by encapsulating the broth solution which had been concentrated ten times with a rotary vacuum evaporator. Cyclization activity of CGTase was reduced by about 10% during the concentrating process, however, its transglycosylation activity, to convert xylitol to glucosyl-xylitol, using dextrin as glucosyl donor, increased by a factor of 3 or 5.

  • This paper deals with the optimum design solution on reduction of torque ripple for a Synchronous Reluctance Motor with concentrated winding using response surface methodology. The coupled Finite Elements Analysis (FEA) & Preisach model have been used to evaluate the nonlinear solution. Comparisons are given with characteristics of a SynRM according to the stator winding, slot number, open width of slot, slot depth, teeth width variation in concentrated winding SynRM, respectively. This paper presents an optimization procedure using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to determine design parameters for reducing torque ripple. RSM has been achieved to use the experimental design method in combination with finite Element Method (FEM) and well adapted to make analytical model for a complex problem considering a lot of interaction of design variables. Moreover, Sequential Quadratic Problem (SQP) method is used to solve the resulting of constrained nonlinear optimization problem.

  • The neutral sugar sidechains of apple pectins were hydrolyzed by commercial hemicellulase produced from Aspergillus niger, and the corresponding changes in solution viscosity were investigated in dilute(cc*) pectin solutions. Pectinase activity included in hemicellulases was removed by Epoxy-activated Sepharose 6B affinity chromatography using polygalacturonic acid as a ligand. Enzymatic hydrolysis of sidechains did not affect the specifc viscosity of dilute(0.5%) pectin solutions, while viscosity significantly decreased in concentrated(2.0∼6.0%) region. These results strongly suggest that the sidechains of pectins exists as an entangled state in concentrated solutions. It was also found that in the concentrated region the extent of viscosity reduction was dependent on pectin concentrations.

  • This work focuses on the application of nanofiltration (NF) to the concentration of a pharmaceutical product, Clavulanate ($CA^-$), from clarified fermentation broths, which show a complex composition with six main identified ions ($K^+$, $Cl^-$, ${NH_4}^+$, $H_2{PO_4}^-$, ${SO_4}^{2-}$ and $CA^-$), glucose and glycerol. The solutes transport through the NF membrane pores was investigated using the SEDE (Steric, Electric and Dielectric Exclusion) model. This model was applied to predict the rejection rates of the initial feed solution and the final concentrated solution (10-fold concentrated solution). The best results were achieved with a single fitted parameter, ${\varepsilon}_p$ (the dielectric constant of the solution inside pores) and considering that the membrane selectivity is governed by steric, electric (Donnan) and Born dielectric exclusion mechanisms. While the predicted intrinsic rejections of solutions comprising up to six ions and uncharged solutes were in good agreement with the experimental values, the deviations were much larger for the 10-fold concentrated solution.
