An Implementation of Travel Information Service Using VoiceXML and GPS (VoiceXML과 GPS를 이용한 여행정보 서비스의 구현)

  • In this paper, we implement a distributed computing environment-based travel information service that can use web(internet) and speech interface at the same time and can apply location information, using voice and web browser-based VoiceXML and GPS, to escape the limitations of traditional web(internet)-based travel information services. Because of IVR(Interactive Voice Response) of traditional call center has operated to a pre-installation scenario, it takes much a service time and has the inconveniences that must repeat speech recording according to the revised scenarios in case change response contents. However, suggested VoiceXML and GPS-based travel information service system has advantages that reorganization of system setups is easy, because it consists of the method to update server after make individual conversation scenarios by file format(document), and can provide usefully various travel information in environmental restriction conditions such as the back regions environment, according as our prototype find user's present location using GPS information and then provide various travel information service by this information.

Non-Photorealistic Rendering Using CUDA-Based Image Segmentation (CUDA 기반 영상 분할을 사용한 비사실적 렌더링)

  • When rendering both three-dimensional objects and photo images together, the non-photorealistic rendering results are in visual discord since the two contents have their own independent color distributions. This paper proposes a non-photorealistic rendering technique which renders both three-dimensional objects and photo images such as cartoons and sketches. The proposed technique computes the color distribution property of the photo images and reduces the number of colors of both photo images and 3D objects. NPR is performed based on the reduced colormaps and edge features. To enhance the natural scene presentation, the image region segmentation process is preferred when extracting and applying colormaps. However, the image segmentation technique needs a lot of computational operations. It takes a long time for non-photorealistic rendering for large size frames. To speed up the time-consuming segmentation procedure, we use GPGPU for the parallel computing using the GPU. As a result, we significantly improve the execution speed of the algorithm.

  • Mobile devices such as mobile phones or PDAs are considered as main interlace tools in ubiquitous computing environment. For searching information in mobile device, it should be possible for user to input some text as well as to control cursor for navigation. So, we should find efficient interlace method for text input in limited dimension of mobile devices. This study intends to suggest a new approach to mobile interaction using camera based virtual keyboard for text input in mobile devices. We developed a camera based virtual keyboard prototype using a PC camera and a small size LCD display. User can move the prototype in the air to control the cursor over keyboard layout in screen and input text by pressing a button. The new interaction method in this study is evaluated as competitive compared to mobile phone keypad in left input efficiency. And the new method can be operated by one hand and make it possible to design smaller device by eliminating keyboard part. The new interaction method can be applied to text input method for mobile devices requiring especially small dimension. And this method can be modified to selection and navigation method for wireless internet contents on small screen devices.

  • SGML(ISO 8879) has been proliferated to support various document styles and to transfer documents into different platforms. SGML documents have logical structure information in addition to contents. As SGML documents are widely used, there is an increasing need for database storage and retrieval system using the logical structure of documents. However. traditional search engines using document indexes cannot exploit the logical structure. In this Paper, we have developed an SGML document storage system, which is DTD-independent and store the document type and the document instance separately by using Grove which is the document model for DSSSL and HyTime. We have used the Object Store, an object-oriented DBMS, to store the structure information appropriately without any loss of structural information. Also, we have supported a index structure for search efficiency like the relational DBMS, and constructed an effective user interface which combines content-based search with structure-based search.

A New Similarity Measure for Improving Ranking in QA Systems (질의응답시스템 응답순위 개선을 위한 새로운 유사도 계산방법)

  • The main idea of this paper is to combine position information in sentence and query type classification to make the documents ranking to query more accessible. First, the use of conceptual graphs for the representation of document contents In information retrieval is discussed. The method is based on well-known strategies of text comparison, such as Dice Coefficient, with position-based weighted term. Second, we introduce a method for learning query type classification that improves the ability to retrieve answers to questions from Question Answering system. Proposed methods employ naive bayes classification in machine learning fields. And, we used a collection of approximately 30,000 question-answer pairs for training, obtained from Frequently Asked Question(FAQ) files on various subjects. The evaluation on a set of queries from international TREC-9 question answering track shows that the method with machine learning outperforms the underline other systems in TREC-9 (0.29 for mean reciprocal rank and 55.1% for precision).

A User Adaptive Mobile Commerce Support System (개인 적응형 모바일 전자상거래 지원 시스템)

  • The rapid growth of mobile communication technology has provided the expansion of mobile internet services, particularly mobile commerce takes much weight among them. Even though current mobile commerce service has serious problems which check its development, such as limited contents, expensive charge system and hardware restriction of mobile device, it is strongly expected as one of the next generation Internet services. In this paper, we summarize the problems like above and provide some total solution to meet them as follows: a function for automatic gathering of product information on online Internet and automatic translation it to data for mobile commerce, a middlelet application which provides functions for product search and order on the mobile device through off-line processing, and a function of user adaptive recommendation. We have actually designed and implemented the proposed system and verified the functions and effectiveness of the system.

A Scheme for News Videos based on MPEG-7 and Its Summarization Mechanism by using the Key-Frames of Selected Shot Types (MPEG-7을 기반으로 한 뉴스 동영상 스키마 및 샷 종류별 키프레임을 이용한 요약 생성 방법)

  • Recently, there have been a lot of researches to develop an archive system for news videos that usually has a fixed structure. However, since the meta-data representation and storing schemes for news video are different from each other in the previously proposed archive systems, it was very hard to exchange these meta-data. This paper proposes a scheme for news video based on MPEG-7 MDS that is an international standard to represent the contents of multimedia, and a summarization mechanism reflecting the characteristics of shots in the news videos. The proposed scheme for news video uses the MPEG-7 MDS schemes such as VideoSegment and TextAnnotation to keep the original structure of news video, and the proposed summarization mechanism uses a slide-show style presentation of key frames with associated audio to reduce the data size of the summary video.

A Study on Digital Literacy Education for Adults in US Public Libraries (미국 공공도서관의 성인을 위한 디지털 리터러시 교육에 관한 연구)

  • In the digital society where ICT technology is highly developed, digital literacy is an essential competence for working and living. Developed countries around the world have been working hard to solve the digital divide and improve digital literacy. In this paper, we investigated and analyzed the case of US public libraries for improvement of digital literacy of adults including the older people. To do this, we analyzed the educational program type of digital literacy, education method, and the contents of the program, focusing on the best practices libraries of the program. Many of the educational programs still related to basic computer and Internet technologies, and training programs on Micro Office, e-mail, social media, and smartphone and tablet computing were also high. The most frequent and daily training method was informal point of use, and the content and level of education appeared to be very diverse. For digital literacy training, the librarians of the public library considered librarians' digital competence and retraining to be the most important, and the library facility and the latest equipment to be suitable for the operation of the digital literacy education program.

  • The objective of this research is to explore a method to utilize a programmable robot, as a potential learning tool in the elementary school's curricula. Due to their programmability and operational ease of use, programmable robots are among digital toys that today offer specially instructive features. In this research, we developed the robot game-based project contents as a tool for teaching the elementary school children to learn the algorithm, the essential part of computer programming. The LEGO material, selected as the construction kit for robot, consists of a mechanical assembly system, a set of sensors and actuators, a central control unit, a programming environment. The project requires the children to complete 3 separate tasks, each of which is developed based on the principles of algorithm. The classroom feedback supports that the robotic experiences provided the children with fun and absorption. It is likely that implementing learning with robot in regular classroom in elementary school can bring new possibilities to the educational system, provided that a thorough preparation backs up the plan.

An SQL Function for the Construction of Recursively Structured XML values from the Relational Data (관계 데이터로부터 재귀적 구조의 XML 값을 생성하는 SQL 함수)

  • SQL:2003 standard provides SQL/XML publishing functions to publish the result of an SQL query as XML values but it does not provide any SQL/XML publishing function that can publish the result of a recursive query as recursively structured XML values. Therefore, for the relational tuples which are connected directly or indirectly according to given conditions, to publish both the contents of them and the relationship among them as XML values with the use of appropriate SQL/XML publishing functions, we have to write a nested SQL query. Writing that query, however, is not easy provided that the depth of the connections is deep even if we know the depth of them and is not possible once the depth of the connections is not known in advance. In order to resolve that problem, we propose a new SQL function XMLNEST that can publish the result of a recursive query as recursively structured XML values.
