PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to compare computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) abutment and prefabricated abutment in Morse taper internal connection type implants after cyclic loading. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The study was conducted with internal type implants of two different manufacturers (Group Os, De). Fourteen assemblies were prepared for each manufacturer group and divided into 2 groups (n=7): prefabricated abutments (Os-P, De-P) and CAD/CAM abutments (Os-C, De-C). The amount of axial displacement and the removal torque values (RTVs) were measured before and after cyclic loading (106 cycles, 3 Hz with 150 N), and the tensile removal force to dislodge the abutments was measured after cyclic loading. A repeated measures ANOVA and a pattern analysis based on the logarithmic regression model were conducted to evaluate the effect of cyclic loading on the axial displacement. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Mann-Whitney test was conducted for comparison of RTV reduction% and tensile removal forces. RESULTS. There was no significant difference between CAD/CAM abutments and prefabricated abutments in axial displacement and tensile removal force; however, significantly greater RTV reduction% after cyclic loading was observed in CAD/CAM abutments. The correlation among the axial displacement, the RTV, and the tensile removal force was not significant. CONCLUSION. The use of CAD/CAM abutment did not significantly affect the amount of axial displacement and tensile removal force, but presented a significantly greater removal torque reduction% than prefabricated abutments. The connection stability due to the friction at the abutment-implant interface of CAD/CAM abutments may not be different from prefabricated abutment.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of CAD (Computer Aided Design) based alpine mono-ski bucket design on disabled ski athletes' kinematic characteristics. Two national team ski athletes with LW11 disabilities (Locomotion Winter Classification) category for sit ski participated in both pre and post experiment. Both of the subjects performed 3 trials of carved turn on a ski slope under two conditions. Where, subject "A" performed pre experiment with personal bucket and post experiment with the newly developed CAD based bucket whereas, Subject "B" as control subject performed both pre and post experiment with his personal bucket. For the experiment, 24 Infrared cameras were positioned on the ski slope which covered the path of the ski turn. Also, motion capture suit with reflective markers were worn by both subjects. In the result, decrement in medial/lateral displacement of COM, anterior/posterior displacement of COM, flexion/extension angle of trunk as well as velocity losing rate of COM was observed in subject "A" when using the newly developed CAD based bucket. In contrast, no larger effect on performance was observed when using personal buckets. In conclusion, the findings obtained from the study indicated effectiveness of newly developed CAD based bucket by reducing excessive movement of hip and trunk which is an important factor to perform an effective turn.
The purpose of this study is to develop a computer program for automatic dart manipulation, as well as basic pattern making, of women's front bodice. In addition to accuracy and efficiency In pattern making, this computer program provides variations of basic patterns through dart manipulation. AutoCAD, running on the Austin 486DX micro-computer is used for this research. The procedures of this study are as follows : 1. A pattern-making method for women's front bodice is selected. 2. All co-ordinate points are located following the same way and order of drafting. 3. Drafting of a basic front bodice is programmed 4. Functions for various single dart manipulations are defined. 5. Menu-driven user interface is developed.
The purpose of this study was, as an experimental one, to suggest concrete ways to use computer in fashion design from information collection to design completion, and to present a real example based on the suggested ways. The first step to attain the purpose was gathering various sorts of worldwide fashion design information on the Internet, and then the collected data were inserted in a graphic file. Next, two methods of fashion design that use computer graphics were recommended : one was to produce fashion design just by altering some of the inputted Internet fashion materials, and the other was to do it after selected basic materials were put in database. Those methods could enable one to do fashion design just with rearrangement and smallest change of the prepared basic materials, without drawing directly, and at the same time, they could minimize time and efforts required for computer fashion design.
Solid modeling refers to techniques for unambiguous representations of three-dimensional objects. Feature recognition is a sub-discipline focusing on the design and implementation of algorithms for detecting manufacturing information such as holes, slots, etc. in a solid model. Automated feature recognition has been an active research area in stolid modeling for many years, and is considered to be a critical component for CAD/CAM integration. This paper gives a technical overview of the state of the art in feature recognition research. Rather than giving an exhaustive survey, I focus on the three currently dominant feature recognition technologies: graph-based algorithms, volumetric decomposition techniques, and hint-based geometric reasoning. For each approach, I present a detailed description of the algorithms being employed along with some assessments of the technology. I conclude by outlining important open research and development issues.
Human body sways continuously to maintain balance during upright stance. A computer-aided instrumentation system using a force platform has been developed to investigate the body balance. The Kistler force platform and amplifiers were only used to obtain the precise measurements, and the data acquisition and analysis software operating on an IBM PC with A/D converter was developed. This study presents methods for the display of platform center of pressure data on stability study. This system can be used as a tool in evaluating the man's ability to balance and disorders of the nervous system.

Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) is one of the most effective method in design of golf clubs for determination of optimum shapes in short lead time. A new design of golf club drive with gas-filled titanium head has been carried out using two FEM softwares MARC and DYNA-3D. The main research work focuses on the decision of face thickness and the effect of filled gas pressure by analyzing the change of the kinematic energy of the ball during impact.

There has been a lot of research on and release of commercial systems that enable evaluation and visualization of construction methods. These have enabled the selection of good construction plans. However, the process in which engineers build 3D geometry, formulate a schedule and eventually synchronize them is still a time-consuming process. Changing any aspect of the geometry or the schedule and re-linking them is also time-consuming. Therefore, the engineers may compromise on getting the best solution. This paper describes a technique to automate the generation of multiple sets of schedules, quantity takeoffs and 4D visualization from a single 3D model.
