  • In this paper, we introduce the improved control method are communicated between a master and a slave robot in the teleoperation systems. When the master and slave robots are located in different places, time delay is unavoidable under the network environment and it is well known that the system can become unstable when even a small time delay exists in the communication channel. The time delay may cause instability in teleoperation systems especially if those systems include haptic feedback. This paper presents a control scheme based on the estimator with virtual master model in teleoperation systems over the network. As the behavior of virtual model is tracking the one of master model, the operator can control real master robot by manipulating the virtual robot. And LQG/LTR scheme was adopted for the compensation of un-modeled dynamics. The approach is based on virtual master model, which has been implemented on a robot over the network. Its performance is verified by the computer simulation and the experiment.

  • Simulation is an important technique to test and verify routing protocol correctness. However, simulation does not guarantee that the protocol works expectedly on a real world environment because it needs to rely on assumptions and simplified properties such as radio characteristics and effects of geographical constraints that may not reflect the real world networking environments. Therefore, a real world experiments are necessary to gain a practical insight into the actual performance of ad hoc networks. In this paper, we build a test-bed to evaluate multi-hop ad hoc networks for high speed video streaming inside a building using AODV-UU routing protocol. Our observation indicates that the considered ad hoc network can provide a sufficient performance for a low rate streaming data in terms of throughput, PDR (Packet delivery ratio) and the average delay.

  • Touch panels are widely used in the modern display industry as the cover glass of smart mobile phones and tablet PCs. Glass cutting machines are commonly used to cut the panels into their proper sizes. Vibration of these glass cutting machines is assumed to be the main factor leading to the creation of burrs, notches, cracks, scratches and chips on the cut surfaces, eventually causing defects of the cover glass. In this study, the vibrations of a glass cutting machine used for the shearing of cover glass components were analyzed through an experiment and a computer simulation. The structural properties leading to vibration were also analyzed in an effort to determine design alterations which can suppress these vibrations. Moreover, each design alteration was applied to a computer simulation model to determine the effect of different alteration on suppressing vibration. The results show that simple design alterations can substantially suppress vibrations of glass cutting machines.

  • Injection molding is one of the widely used polymer processing operations. It is being used for not only conventional injection molding but gas injection molding, water injection molding, and injection compression molding. Injection compression molding involves injection and compression operation, and it gives uniform physical property and high dimensional quality of product. In this study, injection compression characteristics for various product shapes have been investigated by computer simulation. Product containing side wall showed not much effective in injection compression molding since wall thickness direction was perpendicular to the compression direction. Uniform and low shrinkage was observed in injection compression molding comparing conventional injection molding. Subsequently injection compression molding can be used for molding precise product. Optimal injection compression molding condition was obtained using design of experiment for plastic lens and the results were compared with conventional injection molding.

  • In this study, we derived several formulas for magnetic fields and induced voltages in a parallel plate capacitor biased by DC voltages. The computer simulation based on the derived formulas reveals that the magnetic fields due to the displacement current fall within the range of 10-10T to 10-9T and thence the experiment for the displacement current is not possible because the magnetic field sensor used in Data Logger could measure the magnetic fields of above 10-5T range. Contrary to this, the computer simulation confirms that the induced voltages in a toroidal coil due to the displacement current range measurable values of 0.002~0.021V. The results imply that the displacement current can be confirmed by measuring the induced voltages in a toroidal coil inserted into a parallel plate capacitor under DC biasing.

  • Purpose: Projection-type Fast Spin Echo (PFSE) imaging is robust to patient motion or flow related artifact compared to conventional Fast Spin Echo (FSE) imaging, however, it has difficulty in controlling $T_2$ contrast. In this paper, Tz contrast in the PFSE method is analyzed and compared with those of the FSE method with various effective echo times by computer simulation. The contrasts in the FSE and PFSE methods are also compared by experiments with volunteers. From the analysis and simulation, it is shown that ${T_2}-weighted$ images can well be obtained by the PFSE method proposed. Materials and methods: Pulse sequence for the PFSE method is implemented at a 1.0 Tesla whole body MRI system and $T_2$ contrasts in the PFSE and FSE methods are analyzed by computer simulation and experiment with volunteers. For the simulation, a mathematical phantom composed of various $T_2$ values is devised and $T_2$ contrast in the reconstructed image by the PFSE is compared to those by the FSE method with various effective echo times. Multi-slice ${T_2}-weighted$ head images of the volunteers obtained by the PFSE method are also shown in comparison with those by the FSE method at a 1.0 Tesla whole body MRI system. Results: From the analysis, $T_2$ contrast by the PFSE method appears similar to those by the FSE method with the effective echo time in a range of SO-lOOms. Using a mathematical phantom, contrast in the PFSE image appears close to that by the FSE method with the effective echo time of 96ms. From experiment with volunteers, multi-slice $T_2-weighted$ images are obtained by the PFSE method having contrast similar to that of the FSE method with the effective echo time of 96ms. Reconstructed images by the PFSE method show less motion related artifact compared to those by the FSE method. Conclusion: The projection-type FSE imaging acquires multiple radial lines with different angles in polar coordinate in k space using multiple spin echoes. The PFSE method is robust to patient motion or flow, however, it has difficulty in controlling $T_2$ contrast compared to the FSE method. In this paper, it is shown that the PFSE method provides good $T_2$ contrast (${T_2}-weighted$ images) similar to the FSE method by both computer simulation and experiments with volunteers.

  • In this paper, we propose a scheme to reduce the number of shadow tests conducted during rendering of ray tracing. The shadow test is a very important process in ray tracing to generate photo-realistic images. In the rendering phase, the ray tracer determines whether to cull the shadow test based on information calculated from a shadow test conducted on the kd-tree in the preprocessing phase. In conventional rendering process, the proposed method can be used with little modification. The proposed method is suitable for a static scene, in which the geometry and light source does not change in the same manner as it does in the conventional method. The validity of the proposed scheme is verified and its performance is evaluated during cycle-accurate simulation. Through experiment results, we found that we could reduce up to 17% of the shadow test.

  • In this paper, we applied the forward and backward error recovery techniques to a reduced instruction set computer (risc) processor to develop two fault-tolerant processors, namely, fetch redundant risc (FRR) processor and a redundancy execute risc (RER) processor. To evaluate the fault-tolerance capability of three target processors, we developed the base risc processor, FRR processor, and RER processor in SystemC hardware description language. We performed fault injection experiment using the three SystemC processor models and the SystemC-based simulation fault injection technique. From the experiments, for the 1-bit transient fault, the failure rate of the FRR, RER, and base risc processor were 1%, 2.8%, and 8.9%, respectively. For the 1-bit permanent fault, the failure rate of the FRR, RER, and base risc processor were 4.3%, 6.5%, and 41%, respectively. As a result, for 1-bit fault, we found that the FRR processor is more reliable among three processors.

  • Current policies for sharing bandwidth increase average throughput and improve utilization of the bandwidth in the local network. However, with these policies, a central administer, which is responsible for allocating bandwidth to each network flow, cannot allocate resources based on user characteristics. Thus, it leads to unfair bandwidth allocation because it does not guarantee services based on user characteristics. Therefore, we propose a novel negotiation method to share the bandwidth in a limited bandwidth network, in which, a user negotiates with other users to gain more resource. Ideally, we use a fuzzy system to infer and determine whether a device will request bandwidth or not based on the current usage of the given device. We conduct two experiments consisting of a video streaming simulation in OPNET and a real-time video streaming in WebRTC. The results of the experiment indicate that the proposed method can flexibly share the bandwidth utilization based on user's requirement in the network.

  • Recently, attention to the pandemic situation represented by COVID-19 emerged problems caused by unexpected shortage of medical personnel. In this paper, we present a method for diagnosing the presence or absence of lesional sign on PA chest X-ray images as computer vision solution to support diagnosis tasks. Method for visual anomaly detection based on feature modeling can be also applied to X-ray images. With extracting feature vectors from PA chest X-ray images and divide to patch unit, region-specific abnormality can be detected. As preliminary experiment, we created simulation data set containing multiple objects and present results of the comparative experiments in this paper. We present method to improve both efficiency and performance of the process through hard masking of patch features to aligned images. By summing up regional specificity and global anomaly detection results, it shows improved performance by 0.069 AUROC compared to previous studies. By aggregating region-specific and global anomaly detection results, it shows improved performance by 0.069 AUROC compared to our last study.
