A mobile robot for going over obstacles in nuclear facilities (원전시설용 이동로보트의 장애물 승월에 관한 연구)

  • In the view of the fact that mobile robot in nuclear facilities should be able to turn in narrow space, go over obstacles, and climb stairs for the inspection and maintenance, a robot, named as KAEROT, is developed. It adopts 2DWIS (2-Driving Wheels, 1-Steering) and has three planetary wheels that are composed of two star-like arms and three small wheels. The experiments were carried out in two locomotion methods; (1) by controlling the rear wheel speed as a function of steering angle, and (2) by using inclination and stair-detection sensor to control the position of planetary and small wheel. The developed robot moved on the floor with stability. Results from the experiment on the rectangular obstacle as well as the computer simulation showed a feasibility on the stairs.

  • In case of tissue characterization from ultrasonic echo signal, it is difficult to evaluate an absolute physical quantity because of redundancy in the echo signal. For it, in this paper a possibility of characterization of ultrasonic velocity distribution in multilayered medium using dip points analysis method from the reflected echo spectrum is discussed. To prove the possibility of this method, effect of interference phenomenon, impedance difference, attenuation, and thickness is discussed by computer simulation, and then the results confirm the effectiveness. And results of simple experiment are presented.

  • A novel imaging method in which time-division spinning reticle samples different pixel location of input image in different time is presented. The lens collects the beam passing throughthe reticle to a photodetector. Image reconstruction is accomplished by sampling the detector output corresponding to the spinning speed of reticle. Since the time-division reticle system removed the necessity of bandpass filter bank which has sharp cut-off characteristic, high resolution image is obtained without increasing the number of filter. To confirm the validity of this method, a computer simulation and an optical experiment using visual light are presented.

Active Control of Air-Spring Vibration Isolator (공기스프링 방진대의 능동제어)

  • Air-spring is widely used in vibration isolation to reduce the table vibration. When a disturbance is applied to a table, however, it starts virbrating with a low frequency, but has a large displacement due to the reacting force of air-spring. In this study, to solve the table vibration problem, an active vibration control device based on state feedback control using air-spring and proportional control valves was designed. This device can suppress the displacement of the isolation table within allowable range, even any kind of disturbances are applied to the table. Firstly, theoretical analysis of an air-spring isolator was done. Secondly, characteristics of the isolator was investigated via computer simulation and experiment. Finally, active control of air-spring isolator was tested using optimal(LQG) and fuzzy control algorithms was performed to show the effectiveness of the control schems.

  • With the improvement of standard of living, requirement for comfortable and quiet environment has been increased and, therefore, there has been a many researches for active noise reduction to overcome the limit of passive control method. In this study, active noise control is performed in a duct system using intelligent control technique which needs not decide the coefficients of high order filter and the mathematical modeling of a system. Back propagation algorithm is applied as an intelligent control technique and control system is organized to exclude the error microphone and high speed operational device which are indispensable for conventional active noise control techniques. Furthermore, learning is performed by organizing acoustic feedback model, and the effect of the proposed control technique is verified via computer simulation and experiment of active noise control in a duct system.

  • As computer capacity has been progressed continuously, the studies of the flow characteristics have been performing by the numerical methods actively. In this study, 3-dimensional unsteady incompressible Wavier-Stokes equation was solved by numerical method using the fractional step method with the fourth order compact pade' scheme to achieve high accuracy To validate the present code and algorithm, 3D flow-field around a cylinder was simulated. The drag coefficient and lift coefficient were computed and, then, compared with experiment. The present code will be tailored to LES simulation for more accurate turbulent flow analysis.

  • In this paper,we present neural network for control of Left Ventricular Assist Device(LVAD)system with a pneumatically driven mock cirulation system. It is necessary to apply high perfomance control techniques, since the LVAD system represent nonlinear and time-varing characteristics. Fortunately, the neural network can be applied to control of a nonliner dynamic system by learning capability. In this study,we identify the LVAD system with neural network and control the LVAD system by PID controller and neural network feedforward controller. The ability and effectiveness of controlling the LVAD system using the proposed algorithm will be demonstrated by computer simulation and experiment.

  • Semi-solid forging is a compound forging technology to deventional forging process. Among several steps of semi-solid forging process, the heating step of a billet prior to semi-solid forging step is necessarily required to obtain globular microstructure. For the forming operation to work properly, it is also important to heat the billet uniformly for the uniformity of solid-liquid distribution. To satisfy these requirements, induction heating has been generally used for a long time. This paper presents the method to find heating condition and the temperature distribution inside of a billet with a induction heating apparatus by comparing the computer simulation with experiment for aluminum alloys Al2024 and A356.

Fault detection of shadow mask by use of image data processing

  • At the KACC'91 conference, we proposed a method of automatic detection of shape of the faulty holes of a shadow mask which is used in a cathode-ray tube of a color television. In this method, the image data are taken from two areas of the mask with CCD camera. Comparing the shape of holes in these two areas by use of a signal processing technique, we can find any fault in the shape of holes. This paper describes the effect of smoothing filters of effectively finding the faulty holes from the difference image data. A computer simulation and actual experiment with a shadow mask have shown that this method of fault detection is very effective for practical use.

  • This paper deals with some analytical and experimental aspects to control a multi-magnet suspended vehicle. Because the response of a multi-magnet vehicle shows mutually coupled interaction, an analytical description of the vehicle dynamics is necessary. For numerical computations, a linearized modelling of vehicle dynamics is dicussed and computer simulation is carried out. And for the experiment, a test vehicle suspended by four magnets has been made and investigated by local control of each magnet. Two algorithms by PID and state feedback control law are used and compared with each other. Some kinds of disturbance characteristics and coupling effects of the width change of the test vehicle are experimented.
