In this study, the computational method is presented to simulate the hemodynamics of the patients after the Fontan procedure. The short-term feedback control models are implemented to assess the hemodynamic responses of the patients exposed to the stresses such as gravitational effect or hemorrhage. To construct the base line of the Fontan model, we assume an increase in venous tone, in heart rates, and in systemic resistance that are based on the clinical observations. For the verification of the present method we simulate the LBNP (lower body negative pressure) test for the normal and the Fontan model and we compare these with experimental data. Computational results show that the diastolic ABP(arterial blood pressure) increases but the systolic ABP decreases during LBNP. The increase in heart rate is due to the control system activated by the decreased mean ABP and CVP(central venous pressure). In case of the Fontan model, the increased venous tone is the reason of the diminished CVP change during LBNP. We also simulate 20% hemorrhage stress to the patient after the Fontan procedure and these results are compared with the experimental and the existing computational one. Computational results on the hemodynamics of patients after the Fontan procedure show that the mean ABP and cardiac output decrease. Heart rate and systemic resistance increase to compensate for the decrease in ABP. The sensitivity analysis according to the conduit resistance is also presented to delineate the effects of the local blood flow resistance. The cardiac output decreases according to the increase of the conduit resistance. The 50% increase in the conduit resistance causes about 3% decrease of cardiac output.

The construction of a light rail transit (LRT) system is a large and complex infrastructure project involving hundreds of billions of won in construction costs for a single route, and it is very important to carry out such a project from a life-cycle perspective because of its long-term operation. Systems engineering is a means and methodology to successfully implement customers' needs, and it is useful in large projects such as light rail transit. An application model called Systems Engineering for Light Rail Transit (SELRT) was developed to support systems engineering activities in light rail transit projects. In order to utilize SELRT, it is necessary to ensure that system requirements are met. As such, in this paper, we present a verification procedure and architecture based on a systems engineering-based methodology, thereby identifying the system requirements and deriving the verification requirements to confirm the SELRT model for the proposed method. The results show that the traceability of the system requirements and verification requirements, the verification method for each requirement, and the demonstration results for computerized tools are mutually connected, and that the initial requirements are clearly implemented in the SELRT. The proposed method is valid for verifying the SELRT, which can also be utilized in a LRT project.

Numerical prediction of dynamic behavior of fully coupled saturated porous media is of great importance in many engineering problems. Specifically, static and dynamic response of soils - porous media with pores filled with fluid, such as air, water, etc. - can only be modeled properly using fully coupled approaches. Modeling and simulation of static and dynamic behavior of soils require significant Verification and Validation (V&V) procedures in order to build credibility and increase confidence in numerical results. By definition, Verification is essentially a mathematics issue and it provides evidence that the model is solved correctly, while Validation, being a physics issue, provides evidence that the right model is solved. This paper focuses on Verification procedure for fully coupled modeling and simulation of porous media. Therefore, a complete Solution Verification suite has been developed consisting of analytical solutions for both static and dynamic problems of porous media, in time domain. Verification for fully coupled modeling and simulation of porous media has been performed through comparison of the numerical solutions with the analytical ones. Modeling and simulation is based on the so called, u-p-U formulation. Of particular interest are numerical dispersion effects which determine the level of numerical accuracy. These effects are investigated in detail, in an effort to suggest a compromise between numerical error and computational cost.

In this paper, a newly derived formulation of a crack detection model is presented and its feasibility to detect cracks in structures is verified experimentally. To meet this objective, the followig approach is utilized. Firstly, the crack detection scheme which consists of the damage localization model and the crack detection model is formulated. Secondly, the feasibility and practicality of the complete procedure of the crack detection model is evaluated by locating and sizing cracks in clamped-clamped beams for which a f3w modal parameters were measured for sixteen uncracked and cracked states. Major results observed from the crack detection exercises include that far most damage cases, the predicted crack locations falls within very close to the inflicted locations of cracks in the test beam and the size of crack values estimated at the predicted locations are very close to the inflicted magnitudes.

A new flow model is developed for the analysis of compression molding of sheet molding compounds(SMC) and penalty finite element formulation is presented to predict flow front progressions more accurately. In this model SMC is assumed nonisothermal fluid, which has different viscosities in extension and in shear. The flow is allowed to slip at the mold and is resisted by friction force which is proportional to the relative velocity at mold surface. For the verification of the model, the press force and flow patterns are compared with those of experiments and available results by other works in this field. It is also demonstrated, using the computational procedure described and the proposed model, that optimal initial charge shapes for the filling can be effectively computed.
Designers are frequently faced with multiple quality issues in injection molded parts. These issues are usually In conflict with each other, and thus tradeoff needs to be made to reach a final compromised solutions. The objective of this study is to develop an automated injection molding design methodology, whereby part defects such as warpage and weld line are optimized. The features of the proposed methodology are as follows: first, Utility Function approach is applied to transform the original multiple objective problem into single objective problem. Second is an implementation of a direct search-based Injection molding optimization procedure with automated consideration of process variation. The Space Reduction Method based on Taguchi's DOE(Design Of Experiment) is used as a general optimization tool in this study. The computational experimental verification of the methodology was partially carried out for a can model of Cavallero Plastics Incorporation, U. S. A. Applied to production, this study will be of immense value to companies in reducing the product development time and enhancing the product quality.

The goal of total knee replacement (TKR) surgery is to replace patient's knee joint with artificial implants in order to restore normal knee joint functions. Since mismatched knee implants often cause a critical balancing problem and short durability, designing a well-fitted implant to a patient's knee joint is essential to improve surgical outcomes. We developed a software system that three-dimensionally (3D) simulates TKR surgery based upon 3D knee models reconstructed from computed tomography (CT) imaging. The main task of the system was to extract precise 3D anatomical parameters of a patient's knee that were directly used to determine a custom fit implant and to virtually perform TKR surgery. The virtual surgery was simulated by amputating a 3D knee model and positioning the determined implant components on the amputated knee. The test result shows that it is applicable to derive surgical parameters, determine individualized implant components, rehearse the whole surgical procedure, and train medical staff or students for actual TKR surgery. The feasibility and verification of the proposed system is described with examples.

In this paper, for a seismic analysis of an offshore subsea manifold, Response Spectrum Analysis(RSA) and Time History Analysis(THA) were conducted under a various analysis conditions. Response spectrum and seismic design procedure have followed ISO19901-2 code. In case of THA, The response spectrum were converted into artificial earthquake history and both of Explicit and Implicit solvers were used to examine the characteristics of seismic analysis. For the verification, Various seismic analysis methods were applied on a single degree of freedom beam model and a simplified model of the actual manifold. The difference between the results of RSA and THA on the simplified manyfold model evaluated for the analysis of the actual manifold. Because THA is impossible in case of real complex structure such as a manifold, Safety of the actual manifold structure was accessed by using the RSA and the difference between the results of RSA and THA from the simplified model.

In this paper, computational evaluation method for fatigue crack growth rate(FCGR) based on material viscoplastic-damage model is proposed. Viscoplastic-damage model expressing material constitutive behavior of 7% nickel steel is introduced and is implemented into commercial finite element analysis(FEA) code, ABAQUS, as a user defined material subroutine(UMAT) for application in the FEA environments. Verification of developed UMAT and material parameters of material model are carried out by uniaxial tensile test simulations of 7% nickel steel. Moreover, jump-in-cycles procedure and rearrangement of critical damage are employed and also implemented to the ABAQUS UMAT for fatigue damage analysis. Typical FCGR test results such as relationship between crack length and number of cycles and relationship between da/dN and ${\Delta}K$ could be obtained from FCGR test simulation using developed UMAT and these results are compared with experimental results in order to verify of proposed computational method.

In this paper, the advanced explicit algorithm is proposed to simulate the stress-erection process analysis of Strarch system. The Strarch(Stressed-Arch) system is a unique and innovative structural system and member prestress comprising prefabricated plane truss frames which are erected by a post-tensioning stress-erection procedure. The flexible bottom chord which have sleeve and gap detail are closed by the reaction force of prestressing tendon. The prestress imposing to the tendon will make the Strarch system to be erected. This post tensioning process is called as "stress-erection process". During the stress-erection process, the plastic rigid body rotation is occurred to the flexible top chord by the excessive amount of plastic strain, and the structural characteristic becomes to be unstable. In this study, the large deformational beam-column element with plastic hinge is used to model the flexible top chord, and the advanced Dynamic Relaxation method(DRM) are applied to the unstable problem of stress-erection process of Strarch system. Finally, the verification of proposed explicit algorithm is evaluated by analysing the stress-erection of real project of Strarch system.
