Weathering Characteristics of Granite by Freeze-Thaw Cyclic Test (동결-융해 시험에 의한 화강암의 풍화 특성 연구)

  • Weathering in nature was simulated by freeze-thaw cyclic test which represents mechanical weathering. Measured physical properties were elastic wave velocities, absorption rate, volume change and weight change. Uniaxial compression tests were also conducted before and after the weathering tests. The change in weight and volume of the specimens were not clearly related to the weathering process, but P, S wave velocities, uniaxial compression strength and Young's modulus were clearly decreased as weathering progresses. Test result can be used for the assessment of long-term stability of rock slopes.

  • To improve the limit of efficiency of squeezing oil in a conventional method, which seeds are compressed simply, the adoptability of the additional energy by the ultrasonic wave was investigated experimentally. As the results, using the ultrasonic vibration from the Langevin-type transducer, the efficiency was increased up to 25 %, whereas the conventional method has 15% efficiency. To investigate the additional pressure by the ultrasonic wave, the acoustic impedance of the sample and the vibration velocity of the transducer were measured. Although the amplitude of the ultrasonic is about 2.8 % of the compression pressure, the efficiency is increased a lot as mentioned above because the pressure is changed according to ultrasonic period.

  • An ECG data compression algorithM using max-min slope update is proposed and a real time 3 channel ECG transmission system is implemented using the proposed algorithm. In order to effectively compress ECG data, we compare a threshold value with the max-min slope difference (MMSD) which is updated at each sample values. If this MMSD value is smaller than the threshold value, then the data is compressed. Conversely, when the MMSD value is larger than threshold value, the data is transmitted after storing the value and the length between the data which is beyond previous threshold level. As a result, it can accurately compress both the region of QRS, P, and T wave that has fast-changing and the region of the base line that slope is changing slow. Therefore, it Is possible to enhance the compression rate and the percent roms difference. In addition, because of the simplicity, this algorithm is more suitable for real-time implementation.

Millimeter-Wave High-Linear CMOS Low-Noise Amplifier Using Multiple-Gate Transistors

  • A millimeter-wave (mm-wave) high-linear low-noise amplifier (LNA) is presented using a 0.18 ${\mu}m$ standard CMOS process. To improve the linearity of mm-wave LNAs, we adopted the multiple-gate transistor (MGTR) topology used in the low frequency range. By using an MGTR having a different gate-source bias at the last stage of LNAs, third-order input intercept point (IIP3) and 1-dB gain compression point ($P_{1dB}$) increase by 4.85 dBm and 4 dBm, respectively, without noise figure (NF) degradation. At 33 GHz, the proposed LNAs represent 9.5 dB gain, 7.13 dB NF, and 6.25 dBm IIP3.

Comparison of the Effect of Ischemic Compression Therapy and Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy on the Trigger Point of the Upper Trapezius Muscle (위등세모근의 발통점에 대한 허혈성 압박치료와 체외충격파치료의 효과비교)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to compare the effects of ischemic compression (IC) therapy and extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) in patients with upper trapezius myofascial pain syndrome and to present an effective treatment method for these patients. Methods: A total of 42 patients with upper trapezius myofascial pain syndrome were randomly assigned to the IC group (n = 21) and ESWT group (n = 21). IC therapy and ESWT were performed in the IC and ESWT groups, respectively. Treatment was applied to the trigger point of the upper trapezius muscle. Visual analog scales (VAS), pain pressure threshold (PPT), range of motion, neck disability index (NDI), and fear-avoidance belief questionnaire (FABQ) were evaluated before and after the intervention to compare its effectiveness. Results: Both groups showed significant differences before and after the intervention in VAS, PPT, NDI, FABQ, flexion, extension, right side bending, and left side bending (p <.05). In addition, there were significant differences in the IC group compared to the ESWT group in VAS, PPT, and NDI (p <.05). Conclusion: IC therapy and ESWT applied to patients with upper trapezius myofascial pain syndrome are mediating methods of pain, function, and psychosocial effects. In addition, IC therapy may be a more effective mediating method for pain and dysfunction than ESWT.

Analysis for Characteristics Method on Wind Pressure of Trains Crossing in Tunnel (터널내 교행 열차의 풍압에 대한 특성법 해석)

  • Pressure waves are generated and propagate in a tunnel when train enters tunnel high speed. A compression wave due to the entry of train head propagates along the tunnel and is reflected at tunnel exit as an expansion wave. An expansion wave due to the entry of the train tail propagates along the tunnel and is reflected at tunnel exit as a compression wave. These pressure waves are repeatedly propagated and reflected at the tunnel entrance and exit. Severe pressure changes causes ear-discomfort for passengers in the cabin and micro pressure waves around the tunnel exit. It is necessary to analyze the transient pressure phenomena in tunnels qualitatively and quantitatively, because pressure change rate is considered as one of the major design parameters for optimal tunnel cross sectional area and repeated fatigue force on car body. In this study, we developed a characteristics method based on a fixed mesh system and boundary conditions for crossing trains and analyzed this system using an X-t diagram. The results of the simulation show that offsetting of pressure waves occurs for special entry conditions of a crossing train.

Effects of 3D Compression Suits on EEG Analysis during and after Walking (운동 중과 휴식 시 3D 컴프레션 수트 착용에 따른 정량적 뇌파 분석)

  • This study examined the wearing effect of 3D compression suits on quantitative electroencephalogram (EEG) during walking and rest. Ten males in their 20s wore three types of experimental clothing, a loose-fit wear (BS), a 3D compression suit (3D CS), and a power film welded on CS (3D WCS); in addition, EEG signals were measured during resting, walking, after walking, and after sit-ups. The results showed that a higher pressure (due to 3D CS and 3D WCS) increased the 'Concentration' level and the 'Cognitive load' of brain waves during treadmill walking due to a higher cortex activity level when walking. Differentiation was shown between two compression suits and BS was enhanced during walking on a treadmill; however, the brain waves of 'Relaxation' between two compression suits were significantly different after walking, i.e., 'Relaxation' level of 3D WCS was the highest. Rigorous exercise such as sit-ups was inefficient to distinguish the effect of compression suits on EEG. Participants perceived a higher pressure due to compression suits; however, the wear comfort of two compression suits was maintained. Two compression suits were rated as supportive and helpful during walking. Various EEG parameters such as the indices of 'Relaxation', 'Concentration' and 'Cognitive load' were effective to observe the effect of 3D compression suits on wearers' brain waves during and after walking.

Development of Incident Detection Model Using Compression Wave Test Module (압축파 검사 모듈을 이용한 돌발상황 검지 모형의 개발)

  • This study aims at developing the model that is able to detect the compression wave, which is included as a similar situation in incidents, that causes false applicable to the similar character such as incidents in the incident detection model for expressways. In this study, it has been checked whether the number of false alarms is decreased or not by modularizing this model for being able to applicable to other models such as DES and DELOS, etc. which do not perform the compression wave test based on the compression wave test process of APID model which has been being used in the expressway traffic management system currently. The evaluation in this study focuses on the sensitivity of the model and the results analysis is performed classified by each polling cycle. And how well these models are working is evaluated by each polling cycle. In addition to this, the detection rate, the false alarm rate and the average detection time in both the existing models and the model in this study are calcuated. As a result of appling the model in this study, it is found that the false alarm rate is improved through the reasonable decrease in the number of false alarm frequencies and there are not remarkable changes concerning the detection rate and the average detection time. To sum up, it is expected that a good number of improvement effects will be occurred when this model is applied to the actual expressway traffic management system.

  • The shock wave diffracted behind a finite wedge is partially scattered after interacting with a starting vortex originated from the sharp vertex of the wedge. The shock is divided into the accelerated and decelerated shocks. The decelerated shock then interacts with the small vortexlets brought about by the vortex instability, producing weak compression waves. The shock-shock interaction produces Mach stems. Through this successive process, the shock attenuated. In this study, these complicated shock phenomena are computed using Euler equations and compared with experimental results obtained by the authors.

  • The feasibility of using stress-wave technique in the transverse direction for the assessment of early stages of decay was investigated using compression test specimens having different annual ring orientations subjected to decay by Tyromyces palustris for various time intervals. Decay detection, quantitative assessment of decay, and the prediction of residual strength of decayed wood with less than five percent weight loss can be feasible using stress-wave parameters (wave velocity, wave impedance, and stress-wave elasticity) and their percent reduction due to decay, measured by stress-wave technique in the transverse direction. The use of stress-wave technique in the transverse direction for the application of this technique to structural members in service is desirable, when considering the easiness of attachment of accelerometers of stress-wave measuring device on the surface of members and also accurate detection of localized decayed areas. In stress-wave technique in the transverse direction, stress-wave parameters measured were different according to the angles between wave propagation path and annual ring, due to the anisotropy of wood structure. Therefore, it is recommended to use percent reduction in stress-wave parameters instead of stress-wave parameters. This evaluation method using percent reduction in stress-wave parameters is ideal when it is impossible to observe annual ring orientation on the transverse surface of wood.
