  • Hydroforming is core production techniques for the super light weight and high safety of the vehicle body. In order to establish and understand hydroforming, the tube hydroforming simulator which could control an axial compression and high internal pressure with computer operation was developed in tube bulging. This paper presents experimental investigation for process parameters, such as Internal pressure and axial compression. In addition, the mechanical properties, such as strain hardening and energy absorption ability of hydroformed part, is discussed.

  • In this paper, collapse test of thin-walled structural member widely used for automobiles is carried out under static compression load to observe the effects of cross- sectional shape and material on the energy absorbing capacity in the viewpoint of cras- hworthiness. Specimens tested consist of two sorts(Aluminium, CFRP) and configur- ations(Circular, Square) with variation in thickness. Also, comparisons of Al circular and square specimens are made to find the influence of difference in shape on the energy absorbing capability according as the thickness of specimen varies.

  • Mucoadhesive tablets containing hydroxypropylcellulose-H (HPC) and carbopol 934 (CP) were prepared from direct compression. Their adhesive forces and water absorptions were investigated by using mouse peritoneal membrane and 1.5% agar plate, respectively. Adhesive force was significantly improved with increasing CP concentration, but was not affected by compression force and addition of disintegrants. And adhesive force to mouse peritioneal membrane was increased as fixing time increased. In conclusion, adequate adhesive force can be obtained by control of CP/HPC ratio and fixing time.

  • Mechanical responses and failure behaviors of advanced C/C composite tube are very important for structural component design in nuclear reactor. In this study, an experimental investigation was conducted to study mechanical properties of C/C composite tube. Quasi-static compression loading was applied to a type of advanced composite tube to determine the response of the quasi-static load displacement curve during progressive damage. Acoustic emissions (AE) signals were captured and analyzed to characterize the crack formation and crack development. In addition, the crack propagation of the specimens was monitored by imaging technique and failure mode of the specimen was analyzed. FEM is appled to simulate the stress distribution. Results show that advanced C/C composite tube exhibits considerable energy absorption capability and stability in load-carrying capacity.

  • This paper describes the energy absorption of a square tube under axi compression by using the finite element method. The overall deformations and lo buckling modes of tube was discussed by "plastic hinge concep Force-displacement function was plotted to show various state that depended or time. Also, mean crush load was expressed as a type of section geometry a material property using dimensional analysis. To verify the energy absorption and the effects of dimensions, The standards Wt used as related density and specific energy, mean crushing load and the resL were discussed by the relation between crush load and deformation, the relati between related density and specific energy, the relation between crush load a mean crush load, the relation between mean crush load and specific energy.ergy.

  • PURPOSES : This study was performed to investigate a feasibility of job-site use of recycled concrete aggregate exceeding 3% of absorption rate. Test variables are coarse aggregate types such as natural aggregate, job-site processed recycled aggregate, and recycled aggregate processed from the intermediate waste treatment company. METHODS : First, aggregate properties such as gradation, specific gravity and absorption rate were determined. Next a basic series of mechanical properties of concrete was tested. RESULTS : All strength test results such as compression, flexure and modulus were satisfied for the minimum requirements. Finally up to first 48 elapsed days the shrinkage strains of concretes made from both recycled aggregates (in case of volume-surface ratio of 300) appeared to be greater than 26% of the companion concretes made from natural aggregates. CONCLUSIONS : Drying shrinkage result is ascribed to greater absorption rate and specific gravity of those specimens made from recycled aggregate. This may be reduced with an addition of admixtures.

  • In this paper, quasi-static crushing tests of composite circular tubes under axial compression load are conducted to investigate the energy absorption characteristics. Circular tubes used for this experiment are glass/epoxy (GFRP) composite tubes, which is fabricated by the filament winding method. One edge of the composite tube is chamfered to reduce the initial peak load and to prevent catastrophic failure during crushing process. Two suggested trigger mechanisms for the composite tubes are investigated. Crushing modes are mainly affected by thickness/diameter ratio, and average crushing loads are mainly affected by their cross-sections. Energy absorption characteristics vary significantly as a function of the tube geometry, trigger mechanism, t/D ratio and the cross-sectional shape.

  • Elastostatic compression tests were carried out on amorphous alloys to evaluate their energy absorption capability during homogeneous deformation at room temperature. Experiments demonstrated that a compressive stress below the global yield imposed on amorphous alloys for extended periods causes homogeneous plastic strain associated with the irreversible structural disordering. During the disordering process, free volume was created, dissipating the externally applied strain energy and the rate of creation was found to converge to a saturated value. We evaluated the capability of energy absorption of amorphous alloys during homogeneous deformation using recent theories on the evolution of the structural state.

  • The demand for PU coated synthetic leather is increasing as a high fashion material. But it has some faults of water vapor permeability surface tacky property and static electricity. Therefore the purpose of this study was the produce of PU coated fabric added collagen with hydrophilic property and soft touch. In the PU coated fabric water vapor permeability water vaper absorption and frictional electronic voltage were investigated surface bending and compression properties were also examined by the use of KES-FB System. The followings were the results of this study. 1. There was no Cr in the collagen so that Cr was not treated in the collagen. 2. The surface and cross sectional layer of PU coated fabric with collagen were highly developed by micro porous structure. 3. The water vapor permeability of PU coated fabric was increased as collagen concentration increased. 4. The water vapor absorption of PU coated fabric was increased as collagen concentration increased. 5. The frictional electronic voltage of PU coated fabric was decreased in accordance with the increase of collagen concentration. Especially it effectively decreased by the use of only 5% collagen concentration. 6,. The bending and compression properties of PU coated fabric were increased in accordance with the increase of collagen concentration so that it became stiff. 7. The Value of MIU, SMD was decreased in accordance with the increase of collagen concentration so that the PU coated fabric became smooth.

  • The aims of this study were to determine mechanical properties of steel-fiber reinforced concrete under splitting tensile, flexural and compressive loading, and thus to improve the possible applications of concrete. The major factors experimentally investigated in this study were the fiber content and the length and the diameter of fibers. The major results obtained are summarized as follows : 1.The strength, strain, elastic modulus and energy obsorption capability of steel-fiber reinforced concrete under splitting tensile loading were significantly improved by increasing the fiber content or the aspect ratio. 2.The flexural strength, central deflection, and flexural toughness of steel4iber reinforced beams were significantly improved by increasing the fiber content or the aspect ratio. And flexural behavior characteristic was good at the aspect ratio of about 60 to 75. 3.The strength, strain, and energy absorption capability in compression were increased with the increase of the fiber content. These effects were not so sensitive to the aspect ratio. The energy absorption capability was improved only slightly with the increase of the fiber length. 4.The elastic modulus, transverse strains, and poisson's ratios in compression were not influenced by the fiber content. 5.The steel-fibers were considered to be appropriated as the materials covering the weakness of concrete because the mechanical properties of concrete in tension and flexure were significantly improved by steel-fiber reinforcement.
