To apply the nanofluids into the general vapor compression cycle, basically have to know the thermal properties including thermal conductivity and dynamic viscosity. And needs to show the dispersion characteristics for various nanofluids and concentrations. So, firstly this study showed experimentally the thermal properties for various concentration (0.1%~0.7%, as mass balance) and temperature($20^{\circ}C{\sim}40^{\circ}C$) on $Al_2O_3$, $TiO_2$, and CuO nanofluids using base fluid as POE oil that has used in the scroll compressor for various refrigeration system. From the results, the dynamic viscosity of nanofluids was considerably changed from the base POE oil. And, the dispersion characteristics of various nanofluids using the simple methods like as analyzing the RGB value or measuring the sinking height of nanofluids were showed experimentally. Through the results, the dispersion characteristics of $Al_2O_3$ nanofluid was better than those of $TiO_2$, and CuO nanofluids not considering the real refrigeration cycle rurming conditions.

The conventional medium and large caliber gun, in general, utilize the hydro-pneumatic recoil mechanism to control the firing impulse and to return to the battery position. However, this kind of mechanism may cause the problems like the leakages and the property changes in oil and gas due to the temperature variations between low and high temperatures. Accordingly, the friction spring mechanism has recently been researched as an alternative system. The friction spring mechanism consists of a set of closed inner and outer rings with the concentric tapered contact surfaces assembled in the columnar form, and can only be used under the compression load. When the spring column is axially loaded, the tapered surfaces become overlapped, causing the outer rings to expand while the inner rings are being contracted in diameter allowing an axial displacement. Because of friction between tapered contact surfaces, much higher spring stiffness is obtained on the stroke at the increase in load than the stroke at the decrease. In this paper, the dynamic equations regarding the friction spring system and the design approach have been investigated. It is also tried for a dynamic model representing the recoil motion and the friction spring forces. And the model has been proved from firing test using a gun system with friction springs. All the results show that the recoil mechanism using friction springs can substitute for the classic hydro-pneumatic recoil system.

In recent years, traditional scaffold fabrication techniques such as gas foaming, salt leaching, sponge replica, and freeze casting in tissue engineering have significantly limited sufficient mechanical property and cell interaction effect due to only random pores. Fused deposition modeling is the most apposite technology for fabricating the 3D scaffolds using the polymeric materials in tissue engineering application. In this study, 3D slurry mould was fabricated with a blended biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP)/Silica/Alginic acid sodium salt slurry in PCL mould and heated for two hours at $100^{\circ}C$ to harden the blended slurry. 3D dual-pore BCP/Silica scaffold, composed of macro pores interconnected with micro pores, was successfully fabricated by sintering at furnace of $1100^{\circ}C$. Surface morphology and 3D shape of dual-pore BCP/Silica scaffold from scanning electron microscopy were observed. Also, the mechanical properties of 3D BCP/Silica scaffold, according to blending ratio of alginic acid sodium salt, were evaluated through compression test.

This research is to find a means of reducing diesel engine combustion noise with none or minimum sacrifice of engine performance by investigating the influence of Cylinder Pressure Level(CPL). For this purpose, modified Wiebe's combustion function, considering the heat release curve as a combustion of both premixed and diffusive combustion portion, was exclusively used to obtain the indicator diagram and computer coeds were developed for the numerical analysis. Following are the results of this research. (1) CPL increases almostly with lag of ignition timing increasing .alpha. and decreasing. theta.$_{d}$, but at the crank angle with the maximal efficiency, CPL is independent of .alpha. and .theta.$_{d}$ with constant value of 200 dB especially at the low frequency. (2) For the constant ignition timing, the effects of .alpha. and .theta.$_{d}$ on CPL were the most significant at the frequency of about 1KHz and 300Hz respectively. (3) For the constant value of .alpha. and .theta.$_{d}$, CPL increases linearly with load but thermal efficiency increase very rapidly with maximum value of load Q$_{T}$=30-40 MJ/Kmol, then starts to decrease slowly. (4) The most effective way of reducing combustion noise without sacrificing thermal efficiency, is to decrease .alpha.. In the case of constant .alpha., there always exists a optimum value of .theta.$_{d}$ with respect to the various compression ratio.o..atio.o..

Calcium ferrite is a major bonding material self-fluxed sintered ore, and it is used as a flux in the steelmaking process. Calcium ferrite is more effective binder for making sintered ore and flux for steel making because of it's low melting temperature. In this Study, calcium ferrite was made by using variety industrial by-products from steel plant. The property of calcium ferrites was investigated on the basis of test method using in the cement manufacturing process. Crystal analysis, compression test as well as thermal analysis were carried out to evaluate physical properties of calcium ferrite.

When an image is converted from HDR (high dynamic range) to LDR (low dynamic range), a tone mapping process is the essential component. Many TMOs (tone mapping operators) have been motivated by human vision which has lower physical luminance range than that in real scene. The representative of human vision properties which motivate TMOs is the local adaptation. However, TMOs are ultimately compressing image information such as contrast, saturation, etc. and the compression causes defects in image quality. In this paper, in order to compensate the degradation of the image which is caused by TMOs, the visual acuity-based edge stop function is proposed for applying the property of human vision to base-detail separation. In addition, using CSF (contrast sensitivity function) which represents the relationship among spatial frequency, contrast sensitivity, and luminance, the sharpness filter is designed and adaptively applied to the detail layer in regard to surround luminance.
Discrete Element Method was conducted for rock and coarse-grained materials in development of granular mechanics and related numerical model due to analyze and apply micromechanical property. And it was verified that the analysis to consider bonding effect was insufficient. In this study, to overcome limits of existing method, it was conducted to analyze difference between indoor test result and bonding effect using $PFC^{3D)}$. For indoor test of mixed soil, uniaxial compression tests by curing time and by cement content were performed. And, DEM to suitable for each condition of indoor test was conducted. In the result of this study, in terms of geotechnics, it was verified that DEM can be used for application as numerical laboratory as well as prediction of micro and macro behavior about bonding effect of mixed soil.

Storm sudden commencements (SSCs) occur due to a rapid compression of the Earth's magnetic field. This is generally believed to be caused by interplanetary (IP) shocks, but with exceptions. In this paper we explore possible causes of SSCs other than IP shocks through a statistical study of geomagnetic storms using SYM-H data provided by the World Data Center for Geomagnetism - Kyoto and by applying a superposed epoch analysis to simultaneous solar wind parameters obtained with the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) satellite. We select a total of 274 geomagnetic storms with minimum SYM-H of less than -30nT during 1998-2008 and regard them as SSCs if SYM-H increases by more than 10 nT over 10 minutes. Under this criterion, we found 103 geomagnetic storms with both SSC and IP shocks and 28 storms with SSC not associated with IP shocks. Storms in the former group share the property that the strength of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF), proton density and proton velocity increase together with SYM-H, implying the action of IP shocks. During the storms in the latter group, only the proton density rises with SYM-H. We find that the density increase is associated with either high speed streams (HSSs) or interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs), and suggest that HSSs and ICMEs may be alternative contributors to SSCs.

This study is a continuation of the previous experimental analysis and is mostly focused on handsheet strength properties. Four completely different fibers, which were Hw-BKP, Sw-BKP, white ledger, and OCC, were selected to investigate the effect of mechanical pre-treatment by Hobart mixer on handsheet strength properties. After equal time mechanical pre-treatment, the fibers were refined with laboratory valley beater for 10, 20 and 30 minutes, and handsheets were prepared from the fibers for physical strength comparison. Handsheets from SW-BKP and OCC showed 5-30% increase of breaking length, burst index, tear index, and compression index while handsheets from HW-BKP and white ledger no Increase except tear index. In Hobart mixer pre-treatment, HW-BKP and white ledger fibers were easily attached to the wall of the mixer bowl and mechanical action was not effectively applied. The fiber length of Hw-BKP and white ledger were 0.837mm and 1.591 mm, respectively, while SW-BKP and OCC were 2.744 mn and 2.033 mm, respectively, in weight weighted length. The effective mechanical pre-treatment seems to be related to the fiber length. Tear indexes of the pre-treated furnish were much higher than no pre-treatment at the same breaking length level.

To improve the physical properties of OCC (Old Corrugated Container) fibers, we used the mechanical pre-treatment on the fibers before refining . The mechanical action in the Hobart mixer induced high shear and compression on the fibers, which resulted in changes of fiber internal structure, and microcompressions on the surface of the fibers. We evaluated the amount of mechanical treatment on the fibers by fiber curl index for convenience. Four different refining techniques were applied to the pre-treated fibers (valley beater, Kady mill, PFI mill, and Impact refining) to find the best combination of the pre-treatment and the refining methods. Conclusions were summarized as followed. 1. Mechanical pre-treatment in Hobart mixer for more than 1 hour caused the increase of curl index of OCC fibers, and increased breaking length, burst index, and tear index the handsheets more than 10 % in this experiment. 2. Kady mill and PFI mill refining were effective in keeping fiber length from shortening Kady mill and Valley beater refining straightened out the fiber curls, and reduced the curl index. 3. Valley beating reduced fiber length very fast and generated fines more than other refining methods. 4. To increase breaking length and burst strength while keeping tear strength , combination of mechanical pre-treatment and Valley beating were most effective.
