The mixture sound speed in bubbly fluids is highly dispersive due to differences of the density and compressibility between bubbles and fluids. The dispersion range in bubbly fluids expands to a higher frequency than the resonance frequency of an air bubble. A theoretical model was developed to compute the reduction of radiation noise that is generated by a force applied on an infinite flat plate using a bubble layer as a compliant baffle. For evaluating the effectiveness of a bubble layer in reducing the structure-borne noise of an infinite elastic plate, the noise reduction levels for various parameters such as the thickness of bubble layers, the volume fractions and the distribution types of bubbly fluids are calculated numerically. The noise reduction effect of an air bubble layer on an infinite flat plate is considerable level and similar to the tendency of dispersion of bubbly fluids. It is recommended that the thickness of a bubble layer should be increased with keeping an appropriate volume fraction of an air bubble for the most effective reduction of the radiation noise.
Recently as electronics and semi-conductor industry develop, ultra-precision machine tools that use air-spindle with externally pressurized air bearing appear in need of ultra-precision products which demand high precision property. Effects of air compressibility absorbs the vibration of shaft, this is called averaging effect, however, the higher running accuracy is demanded by degrees, the more important factor is machining errors that affect running accuracy of shaft. Actually, it would be very important in the view points of running accuracy to understand effects of machining errors on the running accuracy of the spindle system quantitatively to design and manufacture precision spindle system in the aspect that efficiency in manufacturing spindle system and performance in operation. So fu, there are some researches on the effects that machining error affect running accuracy. However, because these researches deal with one bearing of spindle system, these results aren't enough to explain how much machining errors affect running accuracy in the typical spindle system overall. In this study, we investigate the effects of the perpendicularity error of bearing and shaft on running accuracy of spindle system that consists of journal and thrust bearing theoretically, and suggest design guideline about shape tolerances.

This paper describes the air flow characteristics inside the throttle valve. Tow-dimensional steady incompressible Navier-Strokes equation are solved numerically with embedding the conceopt of the artificial compressibility and adopting the Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model. With varying the valve opening angles(the Reynolds number )such as 15$^{\circ}$(5000) , 45$^{\circ}$(3000) , 75$^{\circ}$(7000) and 90$^{\circ}$(10000), respectively. tow cases, with a valve shaft and without one, are analysed. The pressure loss between the entrance and exit is severe at 15$^{\circ}$, 100 times as larger as that of 90$^{\circ}$ case, which also depends much on the existece of the valve shaft. The counter rotating vortices are formed over the valve plate with the shaft at only 75$^{\circ}$. They are smally and very large scale in front and back of the valve shaft , respectively. The velocity profiles of 15$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$ at the exit are almost symmetric to the horizontal center line, however, the symmetricity is no longer maintained at 45$^{\circ}$ and 75$^{\circ}$ , and in addition, the flow at 75$^{\circ}$ is enforced a lot below center line. The pressure distribution on the walls is largely changed near the valve shaft, and its magnitude becomes great as the valve angle decreases.

It has been recognized that the compressibility of hydraulic fluid, which is characterized by the value of its bulk modulus, heavily affects on the system behavior and performance. In practice, the value of the oil bulk modulus varies by the operational and structural characteristics of the hydraulic system. This study presents the theoretical derivation of the effective bulk modulus and describes an experimental impulse technique that allows accurate measurement of oil effective bulk modulus with pressure variation in a hydraulic system. Experimental and analytical results show that the value of the effective bulk modulus varies a lot in low pressure region by the effect of entrained air, while the effective bulk modulus can be estimated just using the oil and container bulk modulus on the other high pressure region.

A cycle analysis is performed to investigate how the non-ideal gas behavior of helium reduces the heating capacity of VM heat pumps. Since the operating pressures of VM heat pumps are as high as 1 to 20 MPa, the compressibility factor of helium becomes clearly greater than 1 and the non-ideal behavior always represents a thermal loss in heating. To calculate the amount of the losses, an adiabatic cycle analysis is performed with the real properties of helium and the net enthaply flows through the two regenerators are numerically obtained. It is shown that the non-ideal gas losses could be as much as 8% in the heating capacity when the operating pressures are greater than 10MPa. The effects of the operating temperatures and the dead volumes on the loss are presented.

Air-Lubricated tilting pad journal bearing that has high stability is analyzed by using the direct method, and this bearing is usually used to need high precision. The pressure that supports the shaft is occured by the differences between the shaft and pads radii of curvatures. So the characteristics of load capacity for their variable values is important. In this paper the load capacity is compared with some of the eccentricity ratio values. The large load oapacity comes form large eccentricity ratio, high bearing number and high preload. But if the preload becomes too high, the shaft comes into contact with the pads. Stiffness and damping coefficients are compared with some of the preload, too. The coefficients decreased along compressibility number with constant load.
The static and dynamic analysis of air lubricatied tilting pad journal bearing which considers tilting effect of each pad, preload but which neglects pad inertia effect and deflection are performed. A direct numerical method is used in evaluating the static characteristics such as load carrying capacity, friction force and small peturbation method is used for calculation of dynamic characteristics. Stiffness and damping coefficients are compared with the variation of the preload. And these coefficients are slightly decreased with increased compressibility number under the constant bearing load carrying capacity.

The stability and structure of bluff-body stabilized hydrogen flames were investigated numerically and experimentally. The velocity of coflowing air was varied from subsonic velocity to a supersonic velocity of Mach 1.8. OH PLIF images and Schlieren images were used for analysis. Flame regimes were used to classify the characteristic flame modes according to the variation of the fuel-air velocity ratio, into jet-like flame, central-jet-dominated flame, and recirculation zone flame. Stability curves were drawn to find the blowout regimes and to show the improvement in flame stability with increasing lip thickness of the fuel tube, which acts as a bluff-body. These curves collapse to a single line when the blowout curves are normalized by the size of the bluff-body. The variation of flame length with the increase in air flow rate was also investigated. In the subsonic coflow condition, the flame length decreased significantly, but in the supersonic coflow condition, the flame length increased slowly and finally reached a near-constant value. This phenomenon is attributed to the air-entrainment of subsonic flow and the compressibility effect of supersonic flow. The closed-tip recirculation zone flames in supersonic coflow had a reacting core in the partially premixed zone, where the fuel jet lost its momentum due to the high-pressure zone and followed the recirculation zone; this behavior resulted in the long characteristic time for the fuel-air mixing.

In order to determine the appropriate volume of the a pressure compensator of deep seabed mining robots, this paper reports on an experimental test for oil volume change in an oil-filled box. At the design stage of underwater robots, it is crucial to determine the capacity of the hydraulic compensator which is replenished as much as the contracted oil volume of the robots. A pilot mining robot, MienRo was designed to work under 6,000 m in the deep sea. The hydraulic actuating oil and pressure compensating oil of MineRo may be exposed at a hydrostatic pressure environment of 600 bar. Although the oil can be assumed to be incompressible, its volume is actually changed under high pressure conditions due to air contained in the oil and oil contraction. To determine the capacity of the pressure compensator, the oil contraction rate should be verified through an experimental test using a hyperbaric chamber.
The bipolar plate is a key component of the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) that transfers reactants and electrons, discharges water and heat as by-products, and serves as a mechanical support for the membrane electrode assembly (MEA). Therefore, the flow field structure of the bipolar plate plays an important role in improving fuel cell performance. In this study, PEMFC performance was investigated with copper foams with different compressibility ratios applied to cathode bipolar plates using a 25 cm2 unit cell. The total resistance decreased as the compressibility ratio of the metal foams increased, and, in particular, the charge transfer and mass transfer resistance were significantly improved compared to the serpentine flow field, lowering voltage loss in medium and high current density region. In the case of pressurized air reactant flow with serpentine structure, fuel cell performance was similar to that of a compressed metal foam flow field (S3) up to the medium current density region, but low performance appeared in the high current density region due to flow field structure limitations.
