HTML is mostly stored in native file systems instead of specialized repositories such as a database. Like HTML, XML, the standard for the exchange and the representation of data in the Internet, is mostly resident on native file systems. However. since XML data is irregular and verbose, the disk space and the network bandwidth are wasted compared to those of regularly structured data. To overcome this inefficiency of XML data, the research on the compression of XML data has been conducted. Among recently proposed XML compression techniques, some techniques do not support querying compressed data, while other techniques which support querying compressed data blindly encode data values using predefined encoding methods without considering the types of data values which necessitates partial decompression for processing range queries. As a result, the query performance on compressed XML data is degraded. Thus, this research proposes an XML compression technique which supports direct and efficient evaluations of queries on compressed XML data. This XML compression technique adopts an encoding method, called dictionary encoding, to encode each tag of XML data and applies proper encoding methods for encoding data values according to the inferred types of data values. Also, through the implementation and the performance evaluation of the XML compression technique proposed in this research, it is shown that the implemented XML compressor efficiently compresses real-life XML data lets and achieves significant improvements on query performance for compressed XML data.

The most commonly used PKZIP format is a ZIP file, as well as a file format used in MS Office files and application files for Android smartphones. PKZIP format files, which are widely used in various areas, require structural analysis from the viewpoint of digital forensics and should be able to recover when files are damaged. However, previous studies have focused only on recovering data or extracting meaningful data using the Deflate compression algorithm used in ZIP files. Although most of the data resides in compressed data in the ZIP file, there is also forensically meaningful data in the rest of the ZIP file, so you need to restore it to a normal ZIP file format. Therefore, this paper presents a technique to recover a damaged ZIP file to a normal ZIP file when given.

This paper proposes a new framework of reversible data hiding scheme for absolute moment truncation coding (AMBTC) compressed images. AMBTC-based RDH can be applied to optical remote sensing (ORS) image transmission, which achieves target region preservation and image compression simultaneously. Existing methods can be concluded as two types. In type I schemes, stego codes mimic the original AMBTC format where no file bloat occurs, yet the carried secret data is limited. Type II schemes utilize predication errors to recode quantity levels of AMBTC codes which achieves significant increase in embedding capacity. However, such recoding causes bloat inside stego format, which is not appropriate in mentioned ORS transmission. The proposed method is a novel type I RDH method which prevents bloat inside AMBTC stego codes with significant improvement in embedding capacity. The AMBTC compressed trios are grouped into two categories according to a given threshold. In smooth trio, the modified low quantity level is constructed by concatenating Huffman codes and secret bits. The reversible contrast mapping (RCM) is performed to complex trios for data embedment. Experiments show that the proposed scheme provides highest payload compared with existing type I methods. Meanwhile, no expansion inside stego codes is caused.

Deduplication is a function to effectively manage data and improve the efficiency of storage space. When the deduplication is applied to the system, it makes it possible to efficiently use the storage space by dividing the stored file into chunks and storing only unique chunk. However, the commercial digital forensic tool do not support the file system analysis, and the original file extracted by the tool can not be executed or opened. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the process of generating chunks of data for a Windows Server 2012 system that can apply deduplication, and the structure of the resulting file(Chunk Storage). We also analyzed the case where chunks that are not covered in the previous study are compressed. Based on these results, we propose the method to collect deduplicated data and reconstruct the original file for digital forensic investigation.
In this paper, we have designed a remote controlable HDR System using all embedded linux board. The system is composed of three parts - a HDR System, a PC client program for remote control and a Nameserver for registering and aquisition of the IP address. The system is built in an embedded board using a linux kernel. With the Linux the system can support networking and file system for a hard disk management In addition, the system embeds a web-server and a ftp-server for remote manipulation and file transfer. And the hardwares of the system are controlled by the linux device driver mechanism. MPEG1/2 technique is used to compress TV tuner signal and external analog video/audio signal. And compressed data is stored in a hard disk. The data stored in the system is accesable through lan or internet. And RTP protocol is used to enable the system to service live stream of instant video/audio input.

A reversible data hiding scheme in JPEG compressed bitstreams is proposed, which could avoid decoding failure and file expansion by means of removing of bitstreams corresponding to high frequency coefficients and embedding of secret data in file header as comment part. We decode original JPEG images to quantified 8×8 DCT blocks, and search for a high frequency as an optimal termination point, beyond which the coefficients are set to zero. These blocks are separated into two parts so that termination point in the latter part is slightly smaller to make the whole blocks available in substitution. Then spare space is reserved to insert secret data after comment marker so that data extraction is independent of recovery in receiver. Marked images can be displayed normally such that it is difficult to distinguish deviation by human eyes. Termination point is adaptive for variation in secret size. A secret size below 500 bits produces a negligible distortion and a PSNR of approximately 50 dB, while PSNR is also mostly larger than 30 dB for a secret size up to 25000 bits. The experimental results show that the proposed technique exhibits significant advantages in computational complexity and preservation of file size for small hiding capacity, compared to previous methods.
In this paper, we reviewed the ACR-NEMA Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standard that was developed for medical imaging equipments interconnected on the standard networks. We also built a simple system that can transmit JPEG compressed DICOM file on network environment and display this medical image on remote-machine.
Purpose: The aims of the present study are to determine the optimum compression rate in terms of file size reduction and diagnostic quality of the images after compression and evaluate the transmission speed of original or each compressed image. Materials and Methods: The material consisted of 24 extracted human premolars and molars. The occlusal surfaces and proximal surfaces of the teeth had a clinical disease spectrum that ranged from sound to varying degrees of fissure discoloration and cavitation. The images from Digora system were exported in TIFF and the images from conventional intraoral film were scanned and digitalized in TIFF by Nikon SF-200 scanner (Nikon, Japan). And six compression factors were chosen and applied on the basis of the results from a pilot study. The total number of images to be assessed were 336. Three radiologists assessed the occlusal and proximal surfaces of the teeth with 5-rank scale. Finally diagnosed as either sound or carious lesion by one expert oral pathologist. And sensitivity, specificity and k value for diagnostic agreement was calculated. Also the area (Az) values under the ROC curve were calculated and paired t-test and oneway ANOVA test was performed. Thereafter, transmission time of the image files of the each compression level was compared with that of the original image files. Results: No significant difference was found between original and the corresponding images up to 7% (1 : 14) compression ratio for both the occlusal and proximal caries (p<0.05). JPEG3 (1 : 14) image files are transmitted fast more than 10 times, maintained diagnostic information in image, compared with original image files. Conclusion: 1 : 14 compressed image file may be used instead of the original image and reduce storage needs and transmission time.
Portable multimedia players have some different properties compared to general multimedia file server. Some of those properties are single user ownership, relatively low hardware performance, I/O burst by user special functions, and short software development cycles. Though suitable for processing multiple user requests at a time, the general multimedia file systems are not efficient for special user functions such as fast forwards/backwards. Soml' methods has been proposed to improve the performance and functionality, which the application programs give prediction hints to the file system. Unfortunately, they require the modification of all applications and recompilation. In this paper, we present a file system that efficiently supports user special functions in embedded multimedia systems using file block allocation, buffer-cache, and prefetch. A prefetch algorithm, SPRA (SPeed-based PRefetch Algorithm) predicts the next block using I/O patterns instead of hints from applications and it is resident in the file system, so doesn't affect application development process. From the experimental file system implementation and comparison with Linux readahead-based algorithms, the proposed system shows $4.29%{\sim}52.63%$ turnaround time and 1.01 to 3,09 times throughput in average.
