복합 부수로의 비정상 유동이 유발하는 난류열전달 증진에 대한 LES 해석 (Large Eddy Simulation of Heat Transfer Performance Enhancement due to Unsteady Flow in Compound Channels)

  • In the present article, we investigate numerically turbulent flow of air through compound rectangular channels. Large eddy simulation(LES) is employed for unsteady turbulence modeling. LES gives better predictions for the axial mean velocity distribution than those of other turbulent models. Strong large-scale quasi-periodic flow oscillations are observed in most of the geometries investigated. Such large-scale flow oscillations in compound rectangular channels are similar to the quasi-periodic flow pulsation through the gaps between fuel rod bundle in nuclear reactor. It exists in any longitudinal connecting gap between two flow channels. The frequency of this flow oscillation is determined by the geometry of the gap. The large scale cross motions through the rectangular compound channels induce significant heat transfer enhancement of the compound channel flow.

Secure Broadcasting Using Multiple Antennas

  • We consider three different secure broadcasting scenarios: i) Broadcast channels with common and confidential messages (BCC), ii) multi-receiver wiretap channels with public and confidential messages, and iii) compound wiretap channels. The BCC is a broadcast channel with two users, where in addition to the common message sent to both users, a private message, which needs to be kept hidden as much as possible from the other user, is sent to each user. In this model, each user treats the other user as an eavesdropper. The multi-receiver wiretap channel is a broadcast channel with two legitimate users and an external eavesdropper, where the transmitter sends a pair of public and confidential messages to each legitimate user. Although there is no secrecy concern about the public messages, the confidential messages need to be kept perfectly secret from the eavesdropper. The compound wiretap channel is a compound broadcast channel with a group of legitimate users and a group of eavesdroppers. In this model, the transmitter sends a common confidential message to the legitimate users, and this confidential message needs to be kept perfectly secret from all eavesdroppers. In this paper, we provide a survey of the existing information-theoretic results for these three forms of secure broadcasting problems, with a closer look at the Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel models. We also present the existing results for the more general discrete memoryless channel models, as they are often the first step in obtaining the capacity results for the corresponding Gaussian MIMO channel models.

Synthetic Lead Compounds Modulate Activity of Large-conductance $Ca^{2+}$-activated Potassium Channels Expressed in Xenopus Oocytes

  • Large-conductance $Ca^{2+}$-activated potassium channels ($BK_{Ca}$ are a widely distributed and play key roles in various cell functions. In nerve cells, $BK_{Ca}$ channels shorten the duration of action potentials and block $Ca^{2+}$ entry thereby repolarizing excitable cells after excitation. $BK_{Ca}$ channel opening has been postulated to confer neuroprotection during stroke, and has attracted attention as a means for therapeutic intervention in asthma, hypertension, convulsions, and traumatic brain injury. Several natural and synthetic compounds including a steroid hormone, $\beta$-estradiol, have been identified as the activators of $BK_{Ca}$ channels. Based on the structural features of the previously reported activators of $BK_{Ca}$ channels, we designed several lead compounds, synthesized chemically, and tested their functional activity on cloned $BK_{Ca}$ channels. The $\alpha$ subunit of rat $BK_{Ca}$ channel was expressed alone or with different $\beta$ subunits in Xenopus oocytes and the effects of the compounds were tested electrophysiological means. One of the lead compounds affected the activity of the $\alpha$ subunit of $BK_{Ca}$ channel in a $\beta$ subunit-specific manner. While the activity of B $K_{ca}$ channel $\alpha$ subunit was Potentiated, the channel composed of $\alpha$ and $\beta$1 subunits were inhibited by this compound. We are currently investigating the mechanism of the $\beta$ subunit-dependent effects and planning to localize the receptor site of the lead compound.f the lead compound.

Insulin secretory activity and mechanism of compound K

  • Purpose: Panaxadiols are more potent than panaxatriols as far as insulin secretory activity is concerned. In this study, we examined insulin secretory activity and mechanism of compound K (CK), a major intestinal bacterial metabolite of ginsenosides. Method: Insulin secretory activity of CK was examined using pancreatic beta cells and in Oral Glucose Tolerance Test assay. In addition, insulin secretory mechanism was studied in terms of calcium dependent or independent pathways. Results: In vitro, CK enhanced the insulin secretion concentration-dependently when compared to glucose-stimulated control cells. Insulin secretory mechanism of CK seems to block ATP sensitive K channels, which was confirmed by diazoxide (K channel opener) but, insulin resistance ameliorating activity of CK can't be ruled out. In vivo, CK showed hypoglycemic effect in OGTT.

프레스톤튜브를 이용한 복단면 하도의 하상전단응력 측정 및 분석 (Measurement and Analysis of Bed Shear Stresses in Compound Open Channels using the Preston Tube)

  • 하도의 흐름 저항, 측벽 보정, 유사량, 하도 침식과 퇴적, 하도 설계 등의 수리학적 문제는 하상전단응력의 분포와 밀접한 관계가 있으나 하상전단응력 분포를 측정하는 것은 쉽지 않다. 본 연구에서는 간편하게 하상전단응력을 측정할 수 있는 프레스톤튜브를 이용하여 복단면의 하도의 하상전단응력 분포를 측정하고 수심비에 따른 전단응력분포 특성을 고찰하였다. 이를 위해 프레스톤튜브를 제작하여 검정실험을 통해 검정식을 개발하였다. 실험은 5가지 수심비 조건에 대해서 수행하여 전단응력분포를 측정하였다. 복단면 하도의 전단응력분포 특성은 기존 실험연구와 대체로 일치하였으며, 레이놀즈수 증가로 발생하는 전단응력의 변동성, 주수로 전단응력의 변곡점 형성, 홍수터 접합부 부근 전단응력 분포 특성 등에서 차이점을 확인하였다. 본 연구를 통해 프레스톤튜브를 이용한 하상전단응력측정 적용성을 확인하였으며 레이놀즈수와 수심비에 따른 복단면 하도의 전단응력분포 특성을 제시하였다.

LES를 이용한 복단면 개수로의 바닥전단응력 분포특성 분석 (Analysis of Bed Shear Stress Distributions in Compound Open Channels Using Large Eddy Simulation.)

  • 하천설계에서 제방과 홍수터의 안정성 확보를 위해서는 바닥전단응력을 고려하는 것이 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 하폭과 수심에 따른 복단면의 바닥전단응력을 모의하여 분포 특성을 분석하였다. 바닥전단응력 분포에 지배적인 영향을 주는 이차류를 모의하기 위하여 OpenFOAM의 large eddy simulation (LES)를 적용하였으며 하폭과 수심을 고려하여 12개의 케이스를 모의하였다. 모의 결과를 이용하여 시간 평균 유속 분포, 이차류 분포, 바닥전단응력 분포 등의 특성에 대하여 분석하였다. 홍수터 바닥전단응력 분포는 전체적으로 홍수터 좌안에서 높은 값이 나타나고 우안 방향으로 감소하는 경향을 확인하였으나 이차류에 의해 상당한 국부적인 변화가 나타남을 확인하였다. 홍수터의 수심이 얕은 경우에는 홍수터의 바닥전단응력이 평균전단응력의 0.8배 이하로 낮은 값이 나타나고 있으나 홍수터의 수심이 깊은 경우에는 평균전단응력의 1.2-1.4배의 높은 값이 나타남을 확인하였다. 홍수터의 폭이 좁은 경우에는 홍수터 우안 측벽의 영향으로 국부적으로 높은 값이 나타나는 것도 확인할 수 있었다.
