  • Clathrate compound is the material that host in hydrogen bond forms cage and guest is included into it and combined. Crystallization of hydrate is generated at higher temperature than that of ice from pure water. And physical properties according to temperature are stable and congruent melting phenomenon is occurred without phase separation. But clathrate compound still had supercooling problem occurred in the course of phase change and supercooling should be minimized because it affects efficiency of equipment very much. Therefore, various studies on additives to restrain this or heat storage methods are needed. In this study was investigated the cooling characteristics of the TMA-water clathrate compound including TMA (Tri-methyl-amine, $(CH_3)_3N)$ of 20${\sim}$25 wt% as a low temperature latent heat storage material. And ethanol$(CH_3CH_2OH)$ was added and its cooling characteristics were studied experimentally to restrain supercooling of TMA-water clathrate compound.

  • It is known that thermo-mechanical properties of solder material and molding compound in WB-PBGA packages are considerably affected by not only temperature but elapsed time. In this paper, finite element analysis (FEA) taking material nonlinearity into account was performed for more reliable prediction on deformation behavior of a lead-free WB-PBGA package, and the results were compared with experimental results from moire interferometry. Prior to FEA on the WB-PBGA package, it was carried out for two material layers consisting of molding compound and substrate in terms of temperature and time-dependent viscoelastic effects of molding compound. Reliable deformation analysis for temperature change was then accomplished using viscoplastic properties for solder ball and viscoelastic properties for molding compound, and the analysis was also verified with experimental results. The result showed that the deformation of WB-PBGA packages was strongly dependent on material model of molding compound; thus, temperature and time-dependent viscoelastic behavior must be considered for the molding compound analysis. In addition, viscoelastic properties of B-type molding compound having comparatively high glass transition temperature of $135^{\circ}C$ could be recommended for reliable prediction on deformation of SAC lead-free WB-PBGA packages.

  • SMC(Sheet Molding Compound), a thermoset composite material which consists of unsaturated polyester resin, fiberglass strands, fillers, and various chemical additives for curing agent, has been widely used in fabrication of structural components. The mechanical properties of molded SMS parts are strongly dependent on material flow results during compression molding process, while such flow in molds is affected by material characteristics. For numerical simulation of SMC molding process, estimation of material property of SMC must be accomplished. In this study, flow resistance of SMC was estimated through a simple compression test using a lubricant with grease oil under the constant strain rate condition at various temperatures and the result was compared with other material data available in the literature. The accuracy of the experimentally determined flow resistance was tested by finite element analyses of compression molding of SMC. Simulation results were compared with experimental results under the plane strain condition.

  • In this study, we design, model, and analyze a compound generator that combines the axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM,) and radial flux permanent magnet (RFPM), which is expected to increase power generation by allowing the magnets to be placed on the upper, lower, left, and right sides of the same-sized generator. Through the design, modelling, and analysis of AFPM and RFPM compound generators, the generator load evaluation results rated output of 500.25 W and efficiency of 87.60%, respectively, at a rated speed of 600 rpm. By employing this complex generation system, these findings are expected to contribute to the activation of a small power generation system.

  • The title compound, $[Co(H_2O)_6](CH_3C_6H_4SO_3)_2$, has been prepared and characterized by X-ray crystallography. The crystal structure of the compound demonstrates a layered material constituted by hexaaquacobalt (II) cations and p-toluenesulfonate anions. Geometrical environment of the cobalt atom is octahedrally coordinated by water molecules. The p-toluenesulfonate anions are arranged with the sulfonate groups turned toward opposite side of the layer, alternately. The layered structure is stabilized by the hydrogen bondings between the ligated water molecules and the anionic sulfonate oxygen atoms.

  • Treatment of root perforation elicits special considerations due to its blood-contaminated circumstances. It is known that conventional dental restorative materials are all leaking. Calcium sulfate is the material which react with water to become chemically set. This study, therefore, was performed to develop a new compound containing calcium sulfate and to evaluate its physical and biological characteristics. Three materials were used, IRM, calcium sulfate, calcium sulfate-hydroxyapatite compound. The composition of the calcium sulfate-hydroxyapatite compound was basically 50 % of calcium sulfate and 50 % of hydroxyapatite mixed with guajacol. The materials were mixed in conventional way and underwent four physical test procedures, setting time, solubility test, compressive strength, and marginal leakage test. All materials were evaluated under the scanning electron microscope to examine the marginal sealing ability. Animal experiment was also performed to test the materials' tissue response. Twenty-four dog's premolars were tested with either furcation perforations or apical retro-fillings. From the results, we found that calcium sulfate possess the good marginal sealing ability. However, calcium sulfate creates many voids which is caused by crystal thrusting action when it reacts with water. It seemed that the voids caused disintegration of the material which eventually lead to tissue reaction. By compounding calcium sulfate and hydroxyapatite, we were able to obtain the better physical properties but it showed larger marginal gap between the material and the root surface. Within the six weeks observation period, both IRM and calcium sulfate-hydroxyapatite compound showed good tissue responses in animal experiment. It is concluded that calcium sulfate would be the material of choice in root perforation repair, but the physical property needs to be further improved.

  • In order to investigate the decay process of wood treated with preservative, waterproofing agent and their compound systems, a full-cell process was applied to impregnate the sapwood of poplar (Populus cathay) at paraffin wax emulsion concentrations of 0.5% and 2.0%, Copper Azole (CA) concentrations of 0.3% and 0.5%, and their four compound systems, respectively. Leaching tests and laboratory decay resistance against the white-rot fungus Corious versicolor (L.) Murrill for treated wood were carried out according to the America Standard E11-06 and China Standard GB/T 13942.1-2009. At certain time intervals during the decay test, samples were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction technique (XRD) to investigate the time-dependent changes of chemical components and crystalline structure, thus clarifying the decay mechanisms. The results suggested that white-rot fungi degrade hemicellulose and lignin in the wood cell wall first, followed by a simultaneous degradation of polysaccharides and lignin. Besides, CA could not only slower the decomposition of both hemicellulose and lignin, but also reduce the degradation amount of hemicellulose. However, paraffin wax emulsion at high concentration had a negative effect on the impregnation of CA for the compound system treated wood.

  • To obtain epoxy resin with permanently attached flame-retardant groups, phosphorus compound containing di-hydroxyl group [10-(2,5-dihydroxyphenyl)-9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phospha phenanthrene-10-oxide, DOPO-HQ] and silicone compound containing di-hydroxyl group (polydimethylsiloxane, hydroxyl terminated, PDMS) were reacted with uncured epoxy prepolymer (diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A, DGEBA) and then cured using 4,4-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM) as a crosslinking agent. The properties of the resulting epoxy materials were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), limiting oxygen index (LOI) test/vertical burning test (UL 94-V test), tensile properties test and impact test. This study examined the effect of phosphorus/silicone compound contents on the thermal/mechanical properties and flame retardancy of cured epoxy resins containing phosphorus and silicone compounds. It was found that the thermal/mechanical properties of epoxy resins containing phosphorus and silicone components were higher than those of simple epoxy resin. The flame-retardancy (LOI: 29.9 ~ 31.8% and UL 94-V: V-0) of all samples containing phosphorus compound and phosphrous compound/silicone compound was found to be passed the flame-retardant requirements (LOI: > 30%, UL 94-V: V-0) of LOI and vertical burning tests. However, the flame-retardancy (LOI: 21.4% and UL 94-V: no rating) of simple epoxy resin was found to be failed the flame-retardant requirements.

  • Two cobalt(II) compounds $[Co(2,2{^\prime}-bipy)(H_2O)_2(SO_4)]_n$ (1) and $[Co_2(2,2^{\prime}-bipy)_2(btec)(H_2O)_6]{\cdot}2H_2O$ (2) (2,2'-bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine, $H_4btec$ = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid), have been simultaneously synthesized by a one-pot slow solvent evaporation reaction. Their structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and further characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), IR, elemental and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The structural analysis reveals that compound 1 exhibits an infinite 1D chain structure with the octahedral Co(II) centers bridging by the tetrahedral ${\mu}_2-SO{_4}^{2-}$ ligands, while compound 2 possesses a dinuclear $Co_2(2,2^{\prime}-bipy)_2(btec)(H_2O)_6$ unit and the two adjacent octahedral Co(II) ions are linked by the bismonodentately coordinated btec ligand. Additionally, compound 2 exhibits blue fluorescent emission in the solid state at room temperature.

  • The enzyme-like catalytic functions of metal complex phthalocyanine derivatives those containing carboxylic acid groups could be applied as odor-removing systems and antibacterial systems. Pyromellitic dianhydride and 4-nitrophthalimide were used as starting material for synthesizing dinitro-tetracarboxylic acid iron phthalocyanine(compound 1). Then diamino-tetracarboxylic phthalocyanine(compound 2) was obtained by reduction of compound 1. For the formation of covalent bond with cellulose fiber, cyanuric chloride was introduced to the amino group of compound 2 by condensation reaction compound 3. The exhaustion method was employed for adsorbing compound 3 on cotton fiber. K/S values of each fabrics were measured by a CCM system and deodorizing rates were tested by a detector tube method for ammonia gas. K/S values of treated cotton fiber with compound 3 were arranged from 2.1 to 4.2 at $90^{\circ}C$ of exhaustion temperature. Deodorizing rates provided result of 81%, 84%, 88%, 91%, by passing time of 30 min, 60 min, 90 min, 120 min, respectively.
