The aim of this study was to analyze the aerodynamic properties of the composite cable-stayed bridge by conducting three-dimensional wind tunnel tests. Focusing on the improved section of the bridge in the two-dimensional wind tunnel tests, the bridge's aerodynamic stability was estimated based on the angles of attack and the wind angles. The aerodynamic properties of vertical galloping, torsion galloping, and torsion flutter were also estimated based on the design wind velocity, and because much of the cable-stayed bridge was constructed using FCM, it was not sufficiently stiff during the bridge's construction. Therefore, the experience progressed by stages: from the full stage to the tow stage, and until the bridge became a single tower. Since the original plane was designed to be a steel box girder, the aerodynamic properties of the steel-box-type and composite-type girder could be compared. The results of this study can be utilized as basic data regarding the aerodynamic properties of medium-length and short composite cable-stayed bridges.

Recently, unexpected cracks in the concrete deck slab of composite steel bridges have been widely reported at an early age of concrete placing due to the concrete placing sequence and methods. Accordingly, the analytical research was carried out to verify the negative moment at an internal supports due to the several concrete pouring sequence and to determine the reasonable concrete placing method on the deck slab of composite steel bridge. The results show that the conventional concrete-placing method, which pours concrete first on the positive moment regions and then negative regions, leads to the minimum moment at an internal supports. However, the conventional method produces two impractical construction joints on every spans and makes field engineer to pour concrete continuously. In conclusion, this concrete-placing method was verified to be reasonable only when the construction joint was placed at the $\frac{5}{8}l{\sim}\frac{6}{8}l$ location of the middle span.

Railway bridge, contact of vehicle needs to design considering the running safety about the running train load of the railway bridge, ride comfort and dynamic safety. Also, upper structure of the railway bridge has to satisfy design standard about moving load(train). So, the railway bridge has to satisfy the requirement for vertical acceleration of the bridge deck, vertical displacement of the bridge and face distortion, which is suggested railway design standard in Korea(2011.5.). In this study, it was investigated and evaluated to the running safety about the running train load of the railway bridge, ride comfort and dynamic safety with railway design standard for steel composite(Steel Box Girder) railway bridge considering KTX, freight train and standard train load.

The concrete bridge decks are usually precast and in-situ assembled with steel girders with post-pouring joint in the construction practice of super-wide steel-concrete composite beam. But the difference of concrete age between the precast slabs and the post-pouring joint has been not yet considered for the long-term performance analysis of this kind composite beam. A simply supported precast-assembled T-shaped beam was taken as an example to analyze the long-term performance of steel-concrete composite beam with post-pouring joint. Based on the deformation coordination conditions of the old-new concrete deck and steel girder, a theoretical model for the long-term behavior of precast-assembled composite beam is proposed in this paper according to age-adjusted effective modulus method. Then, the feasibility of the proposed model is verified by the available test data from the Gilbert's composite beams. Parametric studies were preformed to evaluate the influences of the cross-sectional area ratio of the post-pouring joint to the whole bridge deck, as well as the difference of concrete age between the precast slabs and the post-pouring joint, on the long-term performance of the composite beam. The results indicate that the traditional method without considering the age difference would seriously underestimate the effect of creep and shrinkage of concrete bridge decks. The concrete age difference between the precast slabs and the post-pouring joint should be demonstrated for the life cycle design and long-term performance analysis of precast-assembled steel-concrete composite beams.
Up to now, Japan has more than 200 corrugated steel web composite beam bridges which are under construction and have been constructed, and China has more than 30 corrugated steel web composite beam bridges. The bridge type includes the simply supported beam, continuous beam, continuous rigid frame and cable stayed bridge etc. The section form has developed to the single box and multi-cell box girder from the original single box and single chamber. From the stress performance and cost saving, the span range of 50~150 m is the most competitive. At present, the design mostly adopts the computational analytical method combining the spatial bar system model, plane beam grillage model and solid model. However, the spatial bar system model is short of the refinement analysis on the space effect, such as the shear lag effect, effective distribution width problem, and eccentric load factor problem etc. Due to the similarity of the plane beam grillage method in the equivalence principle, it cannot accurately reflect the shearing stress distribution and local stress of the top and bottom plates of the box type composite beam. The solid model is very difficult to combine with the overall calculation. Moreover, the spatial grid model can achieve the refinement analysis, with the integrity of the analysis and the comprehensiveness of the stress checking calculation, and can make up the deficiency of the analytical method currently. Through the example verification of the solid model and spatial grid model, it can be seen that the calculation results for the stress and the displacement of two models are almost consistent, indicating the applicability and precision of the spatial grid model.
The conception and experimental assessment of a removable friction-based shear connector (FBSC) for precast steel-concrete composite bridges is presented. The FBSC uses pre-tensioned high-strength steel bolts that pass through countersunk holes drilled on the top flange of the steel beam. Pre-tensioning of the bolts provides the FBSC with significant frictional resistance that essentially prevents relative slip displacement of the concrete slab with respect to the steel beam under service loading. The countersunk holes are grouted to prevent sudden slip of the FBSC when friction resistance is exceeded. Moreover, the FBSC promotes accelerated bridge construction by fully exploiting prefabrication, does not raise issues relevant to precast construction tolerances, and allows rapid bridge disassembly to drastically reduce the time needed to replace any deteriorating structural component (e.g., the bridge deck). A series of 11 push-out tests highlight why the novel structural details of the FBSC result in superior shear load-slip displacement behavior compared to welded shear studs. The paper also quantifies the effects of bolt diameter and bolt preload and presents a design equation to predict the shear resistance of the FBSC.

A post-tensioned steel plate girder bridge with cross-beams is analyzed by specially orthotropic laminate theory. The cross-sections of both girders and cross-beams are WF types. The result is compared with that of the beam theory. This bridge with simple support is under uniformly distributed vertical load, and axial loads and moment due to post-tension. In this paper, finite difference method for numerical analysis of simple supported bridge is developed. Relatively exact solution is obtained even with small number of meshes. Theory and analysis method of specially orthotropic laminate plates used in this paper can be used in design of new bridges, and maintenance and repair of old bridges.
Since the coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) between concrete and GFRP, steel and GFRP are quite different, GFRP laminates with different laminas stacking-sequence present different thermal behavior and currently there is no specification on mechanical properties of GFRP laminates, it is necessary to investigate the thermal influence on composite girder with stay-in-place (SIP) bridge deck at different levels and on different scales. This paper experimentally and theoretically investigated the CTE of GFRP at lamina's and laminate's level on micro-mechanics scales. The theoretical CTE values of laminas and laminates agreed well with test results, indicating that designers could obtain thermal properties of GFRP laminates with different lamina stacking-sequence through micro-mechanics methods. On the basis of the CTE tests and theoretical analysis, the thermal behaviors of composite girder with hybrid GFRP-concrete deck were studied numerically and theoretically on macro-mechanics scales. The theoretical results of concrete and steel components of composite girder agreed well with FE results, but the theoretical results of GFRP profiles were slightly larger than FE and tended to be conservative at a safety level.
Nearly 400 composite railway bridge decks of a new kind belonging to the trough type with U-shaped cross section have been constructed in Belgium over the last fifteen years. The construction of these bridge decks is rather complex with the preflexion of precambered steel girders, the prestressing of a concrete slab and the addition of a 2nd phase concrete. Until now, they have been designed with a classical computation method using a pseudo-elastic analysis with modular ratios. Globally, they perform according to the expectations but variability has been observed between the measured and the computed camber of these bridge decks just after the transfer of prestressing and also at long-term. A statistical analysis of the variability of the relative difference between the measured camber and the computed camber is made for a sample of 36 bridge decks using no less than 10 variables. The most significant variables to explain this variability at prestressing are the ratio between the maximum tensile stress reached in the steel girders during the preflexion and the yield strength and the type of steel girder. For the same sample, the long-term camber under permanent loading is computed by two methods and compared with measurements taken one or two years after the construction. The camber computed by the step-by-step method shows a better agreement with the measured camber than the camber computed by the classical method. The purpose of the paper is to report on the statistical analysis which was used to determine the most significant parameters to consider in the modeling in order to improve the prediction of the behaviour of these composite railway bridge decks.
In this study, the modeling of the transverse connection of fully precast steel-UHPC (Ultra-High-Performance Concrete) lightweight composite bridges were conducted. The transverse connection between precast components plays a critical role in the overall performance and safety of the bridge. To achieve an accurate and reliable simulation of the interface behavior, the cohesive model in ABAQUS was employed, considering both bending-tension and compression-shear behaviors. The parameters of the cohesive model are obtained through interface bending and oblique shear tests on UHPC samples with different surface roughness. By validating the numerical simulation against actual joint tests, the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed model in capturing the interface behavior of the fully precast steel-UHPC lightweight composite bridge were demonstrated.
