Steel-concrete-steel (SCS) sandwich composite wall has been proposed for building and offshore constructions. An ultra-lightweight cement composite with density1380 kg/m3 and compressive strength up to 60 MPa is used as core material and inter-locking J-hook connectors are welded on the steel face plates to achieve the composite action. This paper presents the numerical models using nonlinear finite element analysis to investigate the load displacement behavior of SCS sandwich walls subjected to axial compression. The results obtained from finite element analysis are verified against the test results to establish its accuracy in predicting load-displacement curves, maximum resistance and failure modes of the sandwich walls. The studies show that the inter-locking J-hook connectors are subjected to tension force due to the lateral expansion of cement composite core under compression. This signifies the important role of the interlocking effect of J-hook connectors in preventing tensile separation of the steel face plates so that the local buckling of steel face plates is prevented.

PURPOSE. To compare the fracture resistance and the mode of failure of endodontically treated teeth restored with different post-core systems. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Root canal treatment was performed on 40 maxillary incisors and the samples were divided into four groups of 10 each. For three experimental groups post space preparation was done and teeth were restored with cast post-core (Group B), stainless steel post with composite core (Group C) and glass fiber post with composite core using adhesive resin cement (Group D). Control group (A) samples were selected with intact coronal structure. All the samples were prepared for ideal abutment preparation. All the samples were subjected to a load of 0.5 mm/min at $130^{circ}$.until fracture occurred using the universal testing machine. The fracture resistance was measured and the data were analyzed statistically. The fracture above the embedded resin was considered to be favorable and the fracture below the level was considered as unfavorable. The statistical analysis of fracture resistance between different groups was carried out with t-test. For the mode of failure the statistical analysis was carried out by Kruskal-Wallis test and Chi-Square test. RESULTS. For experimental group Vs control group the fracture resistance values showed significant differences (P<.05). For the mode of failure the chi-square value is 16.1610, which means highly significant (P=.0009) statistically. CONCLUSION. Endodontically treated teeth without post core system showed the least fracture resistance demonstrating the need to reinforce the tooth. Stainless steel post with composite core showed the highest fracture resistance among all the experimental groups. Teeth restored with the Glass fiber post showed the most favorable fractures making them more amenable to the re-treatment.
To study the effects of foam core density and face-sheet thickness on the mechanical properties and failure modes of aluminum foam sandwich (AFS) beam, especially when the aluminum foam core is made in aluminum alloy and the face sheet thickness is less than 1.5 mm, three-point bending tests were investigated experimentally by using WDW-50E electronic universal tensile testing machine. Load-displacement curves were recorded to understand the mechanical response and photographs were taken to capture the deformation process of the composite structures. Results demonstrated that when foam core was combined with face-sheet thickness of 0.8 mm, its carrying capacity improved with the increase of core density. But when the thickness of face-sheet increased from 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm, result was opposite. For AFS with the same core density, their carrying capacity increased with the face-sheet thickness, but failure modes of thin face-sheet AFS were completely different from the thick face-sheet AFS. There were three failure modes in the present research: yield damage of both core and bottom face-sheet (Failure mode I), yield damage of foam core (Failure mode II), debonding between the adhesive interface (Failure mode III).
The purposes of this study were to estimate the material properties of the recently developed domestic composite resins for core filling material (Chemical, Dual A, Dual B;Vericom, Korea) and to compare them with other marketed foreign products (CorePaste, Den-Mat, USA;Ti-Core, Essential Dental Systems, USA;Support. SCI-Pharm. USA). Six assessments were made:working time. setting time. depth of polymerization. flexural strength. bonding strength. and marginal leakage. All items were compared to ISO standards. All domestic products satisfied the minimum requirements from ISO standards (working time:above 90 seconds. setting time:within 5 minutes). and showed significantly higher flexural strength than Core Paste. Dual A and B could. especially. reduce the setting time to 60 seconds when cured with $600mW/cm^2$ light intensity. All experimental materials showed 6 mm depth of polymerization. Bond strengths of Ti-Core and Dual B materials were significantly higher than the other materials. Furthermore. three domestic products and Ti-Core could reduce the microleakage effectively.
Statement of problem : Most posts are metallic, but in response to the need for a post that possesses optical properties compatible with an all-ceramic crown. an esthetic post has been developed. Although there have been many studies about the esthetic post materials, 3-dimensional finite element studies about the stress distribution of them are in rare. Purpose : The purpose of this study is to investigate comparatively the distribution of stresses of the restored, endodontically treated maxillary incisors with the esthetic post materials and the displacement on the cement layer on simulated occlusal loading by using a 3-dimensional finite element analysis model. Material and method : Four 3-dimensional finite element models were constructed in a view of a maxillary central incisor, a post, a core, and the supporting tissues to investigate the stresses in various esthetic posts and cores and the displacement on the cement layer (Model 1 ; Cast gold post and core, Model 2 ; Glass fiber post with composite core, Model 3 ; Zirconia post with composite core. Model 4 ; Zirconia post with ceramic core). Force of 300N was applied to the incisal edge and the cingulum (centric stop point) with the angle of 135-degree to the long axis of the tooth. Results : 1. The stresses and displacement on the incisal edge were higher than on the cingulum 2. The stresses in dentin were the highest in Model 2 (Glass fiber post with composite core), and the second was Model 3, the third Model 1, and the lowest Model 4. 3. The stresses in post and core were the highest in Model 4 (Zirconia post with ceramic core), and the second was Model 1, the third Model 3, and the lowest Model 2. 4. The displacement on the cement layer was the highest in Model 2 (Glass fiber post with composite core), and the second was Model 3, the third Model 1, and the lowest Model 4. Conclusion : When a functional maximum bite force was applied, the distribution of stresses or the esthetic post and core materials and the displacement on the cement layer were a little different. It seems that restoring extensively damaged incisors with esthetic post and core materials would be decided according to the remaining tooth structure.
New approaches for detecting, preventing and remedying environmental damage are important for protection of the environment. Procedures must be developed and implemented to reduce the amount of waste produced in chemical processes, to detect the presence and/or concentration of contaminants and decontaminate fouled environments. Contamination can be classified into three general types: airborne, surface and structural. The most dangerous type is airborne contamination, because of the opportunity for inhalation and ingestion. The second most dangerous type is surface contamination. Surface contamination can be transferred to workers by casual contact and if disturbed can easily be made airborne. The decontamination of the surface in the nuclear facilities has been widely studied with particular emphasis on small and large surfaces. The amount of wastes being produced during decommissioning of nuclear facilities is much higher than the total wastes cumulated during operation. And, the process of decommissioning has a strong possibility of personal's exposure and emission to environment of the radioactive contaminants, requiring through monitoring and estimation of radiation and radioactivity. So, it is important to monitor the radioactive contamination level of the nuclear facilities for the determination of the decontamination method, the establishment of the decommissioning planning, and the worker's safety. But it is very difficult to measure the surface contamination of the floor and wall in the highly contaminated facilities. In this study, the poly(styrene-ethyl acrylate) [poly(St-EA)] core-shell composite polymer for measurement of the radioactive contamination was synthesized by the method of emulsion polymerization. The morphology of the poly(St-EA) composite emulsion particle was core-shell structure, with polystyrene (PS)as the core and poly(ethyl acrylate) (PEA) as the shell. Core-shell polymers of styrene (St)/ethyl acrylate (EA) pair were prepared by sequential emulsion polymerization in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SOS) as an emulsifier using ammonium persulfate (APS) as an initiator. The polymer was made by impregnating organic scintillators, 2,5-diphenyloxazole (PPO) and 1,4-bis[5-phenyl-2-oxazol]benzene (POPOP). Related tests and analysis confirmed the success in synthesis of composite polymer. The products are characterized by IT-IR spectroscopy, TGA that were used, respectively, to show the structure, the thermal stability of the prepared polymer. Two-phase particles with a core-shell structure were obtained in experiments where the estimated glass transition temperature and the morphologies of emulsion particles. Radiation pollution level the detection about under using examined the beta rays. The morphology of the poly(St-EA) composite polymer synthesized by the method of emulsion polymerization was a core-shell structure, as shown in Fig. 1. Core-shell materials consist of a core structural domain covered by a shell domain. Clearly, the entire surface of PS core was covered by PEA. The inner region was a PS core and the outer region was a PEA shell. The particle size distribution showed similar in the range 350-360 nm.
Statement of Problem. Endodontically treated teeth frequently required posts and cores to provide retention and resistance form for crowns. In spite of excellent mechanical properties of metal post and core, its metallic color can be detected through all ceramic restorations occasionally. To solve esthetic problems of metal post and core zirconia post system has been introduced recently. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to examine the fracture strength and mode of resin root analogs restored with zirconia, gold and titanium posts with resin, ceramic and metal cores after cementation with metal crowns. Materials and methods. To avoid the morphological variations of natural teeth, 40 root analogs were fabricated with composite resin. Forty resin root analogs were randomly assigned to four groups according to post and core materials: Group A: cast gold post and core and complete cast crowns, as control. Group B: titanium posts (Parapost, Coltent/Whaledent Inc., NJ, USA) and composite resin cores. Group C: zirconia posts (Cosmopost, Ivoclar AG, Schaan/Liechtenstein) and composite resin cores Group D: zirconia posts and heat-pressed ceramic cores (IPS Empress Cosmo Ingots, Ivoclar AG) After thermocycling ($5^{\circ}C{\sim}55^{\circ}C$, 30 sec.), cyclic loading was applied at 3mm below the incisal edge on the palatal surfaces at an angle of 135 degree to the long axis (2Hz, 50N, 50000cycles). Fracture strength was measured by universal testing machine (Instron, High Wycombe, UK) and fracture pattern of restored resin root analogs was also evaluated. Results and conclusion. Within the limitations of this study following results were drawn. 1. Resin root analogs restored with zirconia posts and composite resins demonstrated lowest fracture strength among tested groups. 2. There was no significant difference in the fracture strength between zirconia posts and heat pressed glass ceramic cores and cast gold posts and cores 3. The fracture strength of resin root analogs restored with titanium posts and composite resin cores was lower than that of gold posts and cores. 4. The deep oblique fracture lines were dominantly observed in root analogs restored with cast gold post and core and zirconia post and heat-pressed ceramic core groups.
Core/shell structured composite metal oxides of Fe2O3/MgO were prepared by thermal decomposition of Fe(acac)3 adsorbed on the surface of MgO cores. The morphology of the composites conformed to that of the MgO used as the cores. Broad powder X-ray diffraction peaks shifted toward larger d, large BET surface area (∼350 m2/g), and the size of crystalline domains in nano range (4 nm), all corroborate to the nanocrystallinity of the Fe2O3/MgO composite which was prepared by using nanocrystalline MgO as the core. By use of microcrystalline MgO as the core, microcrystalline Fe2O3/MgO composite was prepared, and it had small BET surface area of less than 35 m2/g. AFM measurements on nanocrystalline Fe2O3/MgO showed a collection of spherical aggregates (∼80 nm dia) with a very rough surface. On the contrary, microcrystalline Fe2O3/MgO was a collection of plate-like flat crystallites with a smooth surface. The nitrogen adsorption-desorption behavior indicated that microcrystalline Fe2O3/MgO was nonporous, whereas nanocrystalline Fe2O3/MgO was mesoporous. Bimodal distribution of the pore size became unimodal as the layer of Fe2O3 was applied to nanocrystalline MgO. The macropores in a wide distribution which the nanocrystalline MgO had were absent in the nanocrystalline Fe2O3/MgO. The decomposition of CCl4 was largily enhanced by the overlayer of Fe2O3 on nanocrystalline MgO making the reaction between nanocrystalline Fe2O3/MgO and CCl4 be nearly stoichiometric. The reaction products were environmentally benign MgCl2 and CO2. Such an enhancement was not attainable with the microcrystalline samples. Even for the nanocrystalline MgO, the enhancement was not attained, if not with the Fe2O3 layer. Without the layer of Fe2O3, it was observed that the nanocrystalline domain of the MgO transformed into microcrystalline one as the decomposition of CCl4 proceeded on its surface. It appeared that the layer of Fe2O3 on the particles of nanocrystalline Fe2O3/MgO blocked the transformation of the nanocrystalline domain into microcrystalline one. Therefore, in order to attain stoichiometric reaction between CCl4 and Fe2O3/MgO core/shell structured composite metal oxide, the morphology of the core MgO has to be nanocrystalline, and also the nanocrystalline domains has to be sustained until the core was exhausted into MgCl2.
We have evaluated the structural integrity of a sandwich composite train roof structure that can be a lightweight, cost saving solution to large structural components for rail vehicles in design stages. The sandwich composite train roof structure was 11.45 meters long and 1.76 meters wide. The finite element analysis was used to calculate the stresses, deflections and natural frequencies of the sandwich composite train roof against the weight of air-conditioned system. The 3D sandwich finite element model was introduced to examine the structural behavior of the hollow aluminum extrusion frames joined to both sides of the sandwich composite train roof. The results shown that the structural performance of the sandwich composite train roof under loading conditions specified is satisfaction and the use of aluminum reinforced frame and aluminum honeycomb core is beneficial with regard to weight saving and structural performance in comparison with steel reinforced frame and polyurethane foam core. Also, we have manufactured prototype of sandwich composite train roof structure on the basis of analysis results.
