The present study aims to design a multilayer microstrip antenna with composite sandwich construction and investigate fatigue behavior of this multilayer SAS (surface antenna structure) that was asymmetric sandwich structure for the next generation of structural surface technology. This term, SAS, indicates that the structural surface becomes an antenna. Constituent materials were selected considering electrical properties, dielectric constant and tangent loss as well as mechanical properties. For the antenna performance, antenna elements inserted into structural layers were designed for satellite communication at a resonant frequency of 12.2 GHz. From electrical measurements, it was shown that antenna performances were in good agreement with design requirements. In cyclic 4-point bending, flexure behavior was investigated by static and fatigue test. Fatigue life curve of the SAS was obtained. The experimental results of bending fatigue were compared with single load level fatigue life prediction equations and in good agreement. The SAS concept is can be extended to give a useful guide for manufacturers of structural body panels as well as antenna designers.

Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) used as input data for various hydrologic models plays a key role in understanding the variation of Hydrometeological parameters and Interaction between surface and atmosphere. Many studies have been conducted to estimate accurate remotely-sensed NDVI using spectral characteristics of vegetation. In this study, we conducted comparative analysis between Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite and MOderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) NDVI. For comparison, Maximum Value Composite (MVC) was used to estimate 8-day and 16-day composite COMS NDVI. Both 8-day and 16-day COMS NDVI showed high statistical results compared with MODIS NDVI. Based on the results in this study, it can be concluded that COMS can be widely applicable for further ecological and hydrological studies.
In this paper, the equivalent elastic properties of fiber reinforced plastic laminar are investigated using various homogenization schemes. Although there are several methods for predicting the equivalent elastic properties such as analytical formula or semi-empirical formula, most of them have some limitations or are not much accurate when handling new composite material consisting of various fiber, matrix and fiber-volume fraction ratio. To resolve the issues, computational homogenization scheme is adopted with a representative volume element (RVE) comprised of a set of finite elements. Finally, the equivalent elastic properties are obtained by applying periodic boundary conditions. The obtained results are compared with those by the existing methods and test results. Also its effect on structural analysis results of the composite satellite panel is investigated.
The satellite system experiences severe mechanical loads during the launch period. Therefore, the positive margin of safety of the satellite system must be demonstrated for every possible mechanical loading conditions during the launch period. This paper presents modal and stress analysis results due to quasi-static loads for the satellite antenna system. The failure tendency fur the sandwich construction of the satellite antenna system has been studied with various lamination angles of unidirectional prepreg.
This study proposes a single-channel satellite remote sensing algorithm for retrieving aerosol optical thickness over global ocean using FY-1C/1D data. An efficient lookup table (LUT)method is adopted in this algorithm to generate apparent reflectance in channel 1 and channel 2 of FY-1C/1D over ocean. The algorithm scale the apparent reflectance in cloud-free conditions to aerosol optical thickness using a state-of-art radiative transfer model 6S with input of the relative spectral response of channel 1 and 2 of FY-1C/1D. Monthly mean composite maps of the aerosol optical thickness have been obtained from FY-1C/1D global area coverage data between 2001 and 2003. Aerosol optical thickness maps can show the major aerosol source which are located off the west coast of northern and southern Africa, Arabian Sea and India Ocean. These result is very similar to other satellite sensors such as AVHRR and MODIS in the location area of heavy aerosol optical thickness over global ocean. The algorithm have been used to FY-1D operational performance and it is the first operational aerosol remote sensing product in China.

Recently, composite materials are widely used for nozzle, pressure vessel, skins of satellite and many structures under condition of high temperature due to good thermal characteristics such as low CTE, heat-resistance, etc. Fiber optic sensors, especially FBG(fiber Bragg grating) sensors, can be a good counterproposal of strain gages for the measurement of material properties of composites under high temperature. In this research, T700/Epoxy specimens with embedded FBG sensors were fabricated and tested at the Instron with thermal chamber from room temperature to $400^{\circ}C$. The effects of embedding optical fiber on material properties were also verified. And, the experimental results were discussed and analyzed by microphotographs of the composite specimen.

This study proposes a particular approach to assess information about NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and LAI(Leaf Area Index) from the spectroradiometer and NOAA/AVHRR satellite data. AVHRR data were collected in twelves months over a one year period in 2004. We calculated 10-day composite NDVI using daily composite AVHRR surface reflectance products(1km spatial resolution). The 10-day composite NDVI have a great effect on the plant growth conditions. Considerably, NDVI was increased by developing muscle fiber tissue from April to May. Then the NDVI increased until the August and then decreased until February. The highest month was at August and the lower month was at December. The difference NDVI analysis using December and another months data was conducted, the results were provided information on the variation of vegetation coverage. The result suggest that a relationship established between the LAI and NDVI in 2004.

This paper deals with an alternative multi-functional structures by using grid-stiffened composite structure with excellent bending stiffness and lightweight characteristics which is capable of easy embedding of electrical/electronic circuitry into structure. The enhancement of thermal conduction capability is made by the application of pitch-based carbon fiber. The lightweight radiation spot shielding technique is also proposed for multi-functional structures without conventional housing and the effectiveness of selective radiation shielding is validated through the proton irradiation test.

Satellite structure should be designed to accommodate and support safely the payload and equipments necessary for its own missions and to secure satellite and payloads from severe launch environments. The launch environments imposed on satellites are quasi-static accelerations, aerodynamic loads, acoustic loads and shock loads. Especially when optical payload is accommodated, satellite structure usually adopts the optical bench consisting of composite material not only to support and secure but also to guarantee good pointing stability against extreme thermal environments. This paper deals with optical bench and support structure which shall be designed to minimize the loads transferred to optical payloads from satellite.
Over the past decades, daily sea surface temperature (SST) composite data have been produced using periodically and extensively observed satellite SST data, and have been used for a variety of purposes, including climate change monitoring and oceanic and atmospheric forecasting. In this study, we evaluated the accuracy and analyzed the error characteristic of the SST composite data in the sea around the Korean Peninsula for optimal utilization in the regional seas. We evaluated the four types of multi-satellite SST composite data including OSTIA (Operational Sea Surface Temperature and Sea Ice Analysis), OISST (Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature), CMC (Canadian Meteorological Centre) SST, and MURSST (Multi-scale Ultra-high Resolution Sea Surface Temperature) collected from January 2016 to December 2016 by using in-situ temperature data measured from the Ieodo Ocean Research Station (IORS). Each SST composite data showed biases of the minimum of 0.12℃ (OISST) and the maximum of 0.55℃ (MURSST) and root mean square errors (RMSE) of the minimum of 0.77℃ (CMC SST) and the maximum of 0.96℃ (MURSST) for the in-situ temperature measurements from the IORS. Inter-comparison between the SST composite fields exhibited biases of -0.38-0.38℃ and RMSE of 0.55-0.82℃. The OSTIA and CMC SST data showed the smallest error while the OISST and MURSST data showed the most obvious error. The results of comparing time series by extracting the SST data at the closest point to the IORS showed that there was an apparent seasonal variation not only in the in-situ temperature from the IORS but also in all the SST composite data. In spring, however, SST composite data tended to be overestimated compared to the in-situ temperature observed from the IORS.
