Recently western countries are now beginning to use ACM (Advanced Composite Material) in the construction industry. Compared with conventional construction materials, ACM possesses many advantages such as light-weight, high-strength, corrosion resistant properties, etc. Among other fabrication process of ACM, pultrusion is one of the promising one for civil infrastructure application. In this paper, the structural characteristics of pultruded glass fiber reinforced composite structural member of angle and tube type were studied. Experiments for compression were performed for those members along with finite element buckling analysis with ABAQUS. The experimental and analytic results were compared each other and they were also compared with predicted values using coded formulae.
PSC box bridges by MSS construction method in high-speed railway may not be cast in place at one step. Web and bottom flange(U member) in the cross section are cast in place at first, then top flange will be cast in place later with some time lag. In this section, stress distributions of U member and top flange are different with those in generally complete cast in place cross section. In the composite section composed of two different aged members, the redistribution of stresses takes place. This results from time-dependent strain characteristics of concrete and the effects of forces applied at the various stages. For comparison in the present paper, two models, one with the composite cross section and the other with generally complete cast in place cross section, are analyzed. The longitudinal stress differences of two models on considering construction stages are compared. As the analysis results show the considerable differences in the stresses of cross section between two models, the composition of cross section is considered for rational design of PSC box girder bridge.

In order to design an advanced composite materials drainage pipe structures for an undersea tunnel, mechanical properties for the lamina types of the structural member must be predetermined. It is also reported that the size effect of the specimen is significant. In this study the tensile tests for the lamina types of the structural member are conducted at the room temperature ($20^{\circ}C$) and the seawater temperature ($0^{\circ}C$). In addition, the mechanical properties are predicted by theory based on the rule of mixtures and elasticity solution technique. The predicted mechanical properties are compared with test results obtained by a test method. In the design of an advanced composite materials drainage pipe structural members for an undersea tunnel, the used mechanical properties must be applied at the room temperature with considering the modified factors. These are to be offered the datum for the design an advanced composite materials drainage pipe structures for an undersea tunnel.
Filling materials poured into precast member joint are subjected to restraint stress by the precast member and joint reinforcement. The induced stress will likely cause cracks at early ages and performance degradation of the entire structure. To prevent these issues and design reasonable joints, it is very important to analyze and evaluate the restrained shrinkage cracks of filling materials at various restraint conditions. In this study, a new time zero-that defines the shrinkage development time of a filling material-is proposed to calculate the accurate amount of shrinkage. The tensile stresses and strengths at different ages were compared through the ring test (AASHTO PP34) to evaluate the crack potential of the restrained filling materials at various restraint conditions. The mixture which contained an expansive additive and a shrinkage reducing agent exhibited high resistance to shrinkage cracking owing to the high-drying shrinkage compensation effect. The high-performance, fiber-reinforced cement composite, and ultra-high-performance, fiber-reinforced cement composite yielded very high resistance to shrinkage and cracking owing to the pull-out property of steel fibers. To this end, multiple nonlinear regression analyses were conducted based on the test results. Accordingly, a modified tensile stress equation that considered both the geometric shape of the specimen and the intrinsic properties of the material is proposed.

Composite column design is strongly influenced by the computation of the critical buckling load, which is very sensitive to the effective flexural stiffness (EI) of the column. Because of this, the behaviour of a composite column under lateral loading and its response to deflection is largely determined by the EI of the member. Thus, prediction models used for composite member design should accurately mirror this behaviour. However, EI varies due to several design parameters, and the implementation of high-strength materials, which are not considered by the current composite design codes of practice. The reliability of the design methods from six codes of practice (i.e., AS 5100, AS/NZS 2327, Eurocode 4, AISC 2010, ACI 318, and AIJ) for composite columns is studied in this paper. Also, the reliability of these codes of practice against a serviceability limit state criterion are estimated based on the combined use of the test-based statistical procedure proposed by Johnson and Huang (1997) and Monte Carlo simulations. The composite columns database includes 100 tests of circular concrete-filled tubes, rectangular concrete-filled tubes, and concrete-encased steel composite columns. A summary of the reliability analysis procedure and the evaluated reliability indices are provided. The reasons for the reliability analysis results are discussed to provide useful insight and supporting information for a possible revision of available codes of practice.

Front-side members of automobile, such as the hat shaped section members, are structures with the greatest energy absorbing capability in a front-end collision of vehicle. This paper was performed to analyze energy absorption characteristics of the hat shaped section members, which are basic shape of side member. The hat shaped section members consisted of the spot welded side member which was utilized to an actual vehicle and CFRP side member for lightweight of vehicle structural member. The members were tested under static axial loading by universal testing machine. Currently, stacking condition related to the collapse characteristics of composite materials is being considered as an issue fer the structural efficiency and safety of automobiles, aerospace vehicles, trains, ships even elevators during collision. So, energy absorption characteristics were analyzed according to stacking condition and shape of section and compared the results of spot welded side member with those of CFRP side member.

This paper aims at developing an environmentally friendly modular dome structure system with highly filled extrusion wood-plastic composite (WPC) member, and manufacturing a real-size specimen by modularizing members and nodes. The member used in the model is the WPC member with 70% wooden fiber contests, which is higher then previous WPC one. Its members and nodes are modularized by analyzing geometric characteristics of icosahedral-based geodetic dome. Applicapability of the 6ea prototype nodes and 3ea prototype members to the modular dome is examined with the results of the modulaization and the making process for the real-size specimen. Besides, from the analysis results, the lowest buckling mode is expected to be a nodal buckling on a node near the boundary.

FRP is a new material that is lightweight, has high strength and high durability, and is emerging as a third construction material in many countries. The composite material panel targeted in this study was a curved member and is the most frequently used arch-shaped member of a structures, such as tunnels. Composite curved panels can be produced in high quality and large quantities through automation operations. On the other hand, the frequency of application is low, and the design criteria and experimental data are lacking. Therefore, this study examined the mechanical performance of the member unit first to verify its performance as structural members of the FRP curved panel. For this purpose, tensile, compression, and connection performance tests were carried out. The tensile tests showed greater tensile strength of specimens with larger curvature, and the compression tests showed that the composite section of a composite material has greater compressive strength than the concrete section. Finally, the test of the performance of the connection showed that the attachment performance of the connection was more than equal to that of the FRP composite material panel.
The application of relatively low volumes of fibres in normal strength concrete has been shown to be of significant benefit when applied to composite slabs with profiled sheet decking. This paper reports on an experimental study aimed at quantifying further potential benefits that may arise from applying ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete. To assess performance six simply supported beams were tested under hogging and sagging loading configurations along with three two span continuous beams. Fibre contents are varied from 0% to 2% and changes in strength, deformation, crack width and moment redistribution are measured. At the serviceability limit state, it is shown that the addition of high fibre volumes can significantly enhance member stiffness and reduce crack widths in all beams. At the ultimate limit state it is observed that a transition from 0% to 1% fibres significantly increases strength but that there is a maximum fibre volume beyond which no further increases in strength are possible. Conversely, member ductility and moment redistribution are shown to be strongly proportional to fibre volume.

This study was performed in order to develop of the new modular construction system. For the modular construction method that is currently applied in the country, it is very expensive in terms of material costs and fire resistance because it uses only the steel C-type beam. In order to overcome this, and the practical application of new steel-PC hybrid module construction system. Improvement and development of the cross-section of the structural beam member in order to be carried out first. An experiment was carried out by making three specimens. Experiment result, the composite beam was dominated by the horizontal shear failure. It was evaluated through a nonlinear analysis and experimental & theoretical for the structural performance the composite beam member.
