This paper presents an experimental and a numerical investigation of a H-beam - composite box column joint fabricated with two new inner diaphragms and a continuous inner diaphragm. The main objective of the current research project is to investigate the structural performance of the newly developed inner diaphragms under a cyclic loading protocol. Hysteretic behaviour of the composite joints is analysed to investigate the structural performance of the new and continuous inner diaphragms. This paper compares the result of the finite element (FE) models with the new and continuous inner diaphragms against their counterpart experimental results. To produce a design criterion for the newly developed inner diaphragms, yielding or failure area of the inner diaphragms under tensile stress is analysed from the FE results.

In this paper, the results of composite laminate mechanical joints test(ASTM D5961) are compared with the theoretical strength calculations and FEM analysis results. To calculate the S.C.F.(stress concentration factor) on joint strength, equations on metallic and composite materials in ASM Handbook used and compared with experimental results. The difference of joint strength are compared by geometrical parameters and joining types(single/double lap joint). In FEM analysis, to find efficient FEM model on composite laminate mechanical joint, several FEM models are compared with experimental test results.
This paper presents a new stable composite control law for the flexible joint robot manipulators, which incorporate the additional stabilizing control law with sliding property. The singularly perturbated models include inertia moments functions of the deformations of actuator. The newly defined fast controller variable is computed from the corrected reduced-order model without additional computational loads. The simulations for 2 DOF flexible joint manipulator show that the proposed schemes are more stable than conventional one, and especially effective for the manipulator with high joint-flexibilities.
Press fitting method for joining of a hybrid tube and steel ring with small teeth for automotive aluminum/composite hybrid propeller shaft was devised to improve reliability and to reduce manufacturing cost, compared to other joining methods such as an adhesively bonded joint, bolted joint or welded joint. To obtain high strength of the press fit joint, an optimal design method for the teeth was devised with respect to number and shape of the steel teeth. Torsional static, fatigue tests and finite element analysis of the press fit joint were performed with respect to experimental variables. The developed optimal design method predicted well the static torque capability and failure mode of the press fit joint. Also, it provided design guide line of press fit joint for improving torsional static and fatigue characteristics.
The composite beam connections often encountered fracture failure in the welded bottom flange joint, and a bottom flange bolted connection has been proposed to increase the deformation ability of the bottom flange joint. The seismic performance of the bottom flange bolted composite beam connection was suffered from both the composite action of concrete slab and the asymmetric load transfer mechanisms between top and bottom beam flange joints. Thus, this paper presents a comprehensive numerical study on the working mechanism of the bottom flange bolted composite beam connections. Three available modelling methods and a new modelling method on the flange-stud-slab interactions were compared. The efficient numerical modeling method was selected and then applied to the parametric study. The influence of the composite slab, the bottom flange bolts, the shear composite ratio and the web hole shape on the seismic performance of the bottom flange bolted composite beam connections were investigated. A hogging strength calculation method was then proposed based on numerical results.

We evaluated the stress-reduction effect for different shapes of a composite adherend with or without a spew fillet. Six different single-lap joint specimens were modeled and assessed using nonlinear finite element analysis. Moreover, we investigated the effect of the stiffness ratio of the adherend and adhesive. The single-lap joint with normal tapering had the highest stress values, and the single-lap joint with reverse tapering and a spew fillet had the lowest stress values. The composite adherends with higher stiffness had lower stress values, and the adhesives with lower stiffness had lower stress values.

Application of composite structures on naval ships strongly depends on the mechanical strength and collapse behavior of the T-joints of the whole structure. Because of the weight advantages over single skin composite and bolt fastening joining, three types of T-joints using both honeycomb sandwich composite and adhesive bonding were suggested to determine the effect of T-joint configuration. It was found that joining with a urethane foam block and overlaminates using the secondary co-bonding technique improves T-joint strength.

The Composite waterproofing began to rise gradually 2000s in domestic. However, the sheet-membrane composite waterproofing method also acts as an abutment vulnerability that was a problem in a single method, and had the problem of damage to the formation of leakage paths. The existing non-overlap method, through vigorous research abutting sheet shall or could be developed to improve the seal performance of this method with the I-type joint coating material. Nevertheless, it has an integral top coat paint membrane and a sheet abutment limitation, damage to the upper membrane is damaged junction coating membranes has been generated. In this study, a method that has a layer of insulation on the joint bond breaker concept development, and to determine the physical properties with insulated joints to determine the breaking off of the upper joint is damaged coating membrane and tensile performance.
This paper aims to explore the mechanical behavior and moment-rotation model of blind bolted joints between concrete-filled double skin steel tubular columns and steel-concrete composite beams. For this type of joint, the inner tube and sandwiched concrete were additionally identified as basic components compared with CFST blind bolted joint. A modified moment-rotation model for this type of connection was developed, of which the compatibility condition and mechanical equilibrium were employed to determine the internal forces of basic components and neutral axis. Following this, load transfer mechanism among the inner tube, sandwiched concrete and outer tube was discussed to assert the action area of the components. Subsequently, assembly processes of basic coefficients in terms of their stiffness and resistances based on the component method by simplifying them as assemblages of springs in series or in parallel. Finally, an experimental investigation on four substructure joints with CFDST columns for validation purposes was carried out to capture the connection details. The predicted results derived from the mechanical models coincided well with the experimental results. It is demonstrated that the proposed mechanical model is capable of evaluating the complete moment-rotation relationships of blind bolted CFDST column composite connections.
The novel form of composite walling system consists of two skins of profiled steel sheeting with an in-fill of concrete. The behaviour of such walling under in-plane shear is important in order to utilise this system as shear elements in a steel framed building. Steel sheet-concrete interface governs composite action, overall behaviour and failure modes of such walls. This paper describes the finite element (FE) modelling of the shear behaviour of walls with particular emphasis on the simulation of steel-concrete interface. The modelling of complex non-linear steel-concrete interaction in composite walls is conducted by using different FE models. Four FE models are developed and characterized by their approaches to simulate steel-concrete interface behaviour allowing either full or partial composite action. Non-linear interface or joint elements are introduced between steel and concrete to simulate partial composite action that allows steel-concrete in-plane slip or out of plane separation. The properties of such interface/joint elements are optimised through extensive parametric FE analysis using experimental results to achieve reliable and accurate simulation of actual steel-concrete interaction in a wall. The performance of developed FE models is validated through small-scale model tests. FE models are found to simulate strength, stiffness and strain characteristics reasonably well. The performance of a model with joint elements connecting steel and concrete layers is found better than full composite (without interface or joint elements) and other models with interface elements. The proposed FE model can be used to simulate the shear behaviour of composite walls in practical situation.
