In this paper, due to the need for cutting cement-soil group pile composite foundation under the 7-story masonry structure of Zhenghe District and the shield tunnel of Zhengzhou Metro Line 5, a field test was conducted to directly cut cement-soil single pile composite foundation with diameter Ф=500 mm. Research results showed that the load transfer mechanism of composite foundation was not changed before and after shield tunnel cut the pile, and pile body and the soil between piles was still responsible for overburden load. The construction disturbance of shield cutting pile is a complicated mechanical process. The load carried by the original pile body was affected by the disturbance effect of pile cutting construction. Also, the fraction of the load carried by the original pile body was transferred to the soil between the piles and therefore, the bearing capacity of composite foundation was not decreased. Only the fractions of the load carried by pile and the soil between piles were distributed. On-site monitoring results showed that the settlement of pressure-bearing plates produced during shield cutting stage accounted for about 7% of total settlement. After the completion of pile cutting, the settlements of bearing plates generated by shield machine during residual pile composite foundation stage and shield machine tail were far away from residual pile composite foundation stage which accounted for about 15% and 74% of total settlement, respectively. In order to reduce the impact of shield cutting pile construction on the settlement of upper composite foundation, it was recommended to take measures such as optimization of shield construction parameters, radial grouting reinforcement and "clay shock" grouting within the disturbance range of shield cutting pile construction. Before pile cutting, the pile-soil stress ratio n of composite foundation was 2.437. After the shield cut pile is completed, the soil around the lining structure is gradually consolidated and reshaped, and residual pile composite foundation reaches a new state of force balance. This was because the condensation of grouting layer could increase the resistance of remaining pile end and friction resistance of the side of the pile.
To reach a better foundation treatment project, an optimized analysis of composite foundation was studied in the field of hydraulic engineering. Its unique characteristics in hydraulic engineering were concluded. And, the overall and detailed analysis of the composite foundation model established was carried out. The index parameters of the vertical reinforced rigid pile composite foundation were formulated. Further, considering the unique role of cushion in hydraulic engineering, its penetration and regularity were analyzed. Then, comparative and optimized analyses of cushion multistage physical dimensions and multistage material characteristics were established. The parameters of the piles distance were optimized and the multilevel scientific and reasonable parameters information was obtained. Based on the information of these parameters, the practical application was verified. It effectively supported the effective application of vertical reinforcement rigid pile composite foundation in hydraulic engineering. The service mechanism of composite foundation was fully analyzed.
Centrifuge model tests were used to simulate pile-raft composite foundation and pile-geogrid composite foundation with different pile spacing for researching the time effect of negative skin friction of rigid piles in high-speed railways. The research results show that the negative skin friction has a significant impact on the bearing capacity of composite foundation. Pile-raft composite foundation has higher bearing capacity compared to pile-geogrid composite foundation to reduce the effect of negative skin friction on piles. Both the foundation settlement and negative skin friction have significant time effect. The distribution of skin friction can be simplified as a triangle along the pile. The neutral point position moves deeper in the postconstruction stage at larger pile spacing. For pile-geogrid composite foundation, the setting of pile-cap affects the position of neutral point in the post-construction stage. Reinforced cushion with geotextile may promote the better performance of cushion for transmitting the loads to piles and surrounding soils. Arching effect in the cushion of the composite foundation is a progressive process. The compression of the rigid piles contributes less than 20% to 25% of the total settlement while the penetration of the piles and the compression of the bearing stratum below the pile tips contribute more than 70% of the total settlement. Some effective measures to reduce the settlement of soils need to be taken into consideration to improve the bearing capacity of pile foundation.
Composite foundation treated with compaction piles can eliminate collapsibility and improve the bearing capacity of foundation in loess area. However, the large number of piles in the composite foundation leads to difficulties in the analysis of such type of engineering works. This paper proposes two simplified methods to quantify the stability of composite foundation treated with a large number of compaction piles. The first method is based on the principle of making the area replacement ratios of the simplified model as the same time as the practical engineering situation. Then, discrete piles arranged in a triangular shape can be simplified in the model where the annular piles and compacted soil are arranged alternately. The second method implements equivalent continuous treatment in the pile-soil area and makes the whole treated region equivalent to a type of composite material. Both methods have been verified using treated foundation of an oil storage tank. The results have shown that the differences in the settlement values obtained from the water filled test in the field and those calculated by the two simplified methods are negligible. Using stability analysis, the difference ratios of the static and dynamic safety factors of the composite foundation treated with compaction piles calculated by these two simplified methods are found to be 3.56% and 5.32%, respectively. At the same time, both static and dynamic safety factors are larger than the general safety factor, which should be greater than or equal to 2.0 according to the provisions in civil engineering. This indicates that after being treated with compaction piles, the bearing capacity of the composite foundation is effectively improved and the foundation has enough safety reserve.

The economic growth brought the demand of bridge connected to island and land increasingly in Korea. Therefore, Civil engineer has faced a lot of problem to be considered such as structural stability, economic feasibility and constructional method. At the bridge site to be constructed, the depth of water is about 24m, the thickness of weathered rock overlaying bed rock is thicker than 36m. If open caisson foundation is supported in bed rock, the hight of foundation is about 60m. It is difficult to construct in these conditions. If open caisson foundation is supported in weathered rock, the size of the foundation should be increased. And If we apply the pile foundation, the higher construction cost will be needed. Under the circumstances, we need a new foundation type-composite foundation that is consisted of open caisson and cast-in-place piles. Because the design concept of composite foundation is not presented in Korea Bridge Design Standard, we are willing to clear the bearing behavior of composite foundation by numerical analysis in this paper.
Composite laminated structures supported on elastic foundations are being increasingly used in a great variety of engineering applications. Composites exhibit larger dispersion in their material properties compared to the conventional materials due to large number of parameters associated with their manufacturing and fabrication processes. And also the dispersion in elastic foundation stiffness parameter is inherent due to inaccurate modeling and determination of elastic foundation properties in practice. For a better modeling of the material properties and foundation, these are treated as random variables. This paper deals with effects of randomness in material properties and foundation stiffness parameters on the free vibration response of laminated composite plate resting on an elastic foundation. A $C^0$ finite element method has been used for arriving at an eigen value problem. Higher order shear deformation theory has been used to model the displacement field. A mean centered first order perturbation technique has been employed to handle randomness in system properties for obtaining the stochastic characteristic of frequency response. It is observed that small amount of variations in random material properties and foundation stiffness parameters significantly affect the free vibration response of the laminated composite plate. The results have been compared with those available in the literature and an independent Monte Carlo simulation.
This paper presents a careful theoretical investigation into interfacial stresses in reinforced concrete foundation beam repairing with composite plate. The essential issue in the analysis of reinforced structures with composite materials is to understand the individual behaviour of each material and its interaction with the remaining ones. The present model is based on equilibrium and deformations compatibility requirements in and all parts of the repaired RC foundation beam, i.e., the reinforced concrete foundation beam, the composite plate and the adhesive layer. The theoretical predictions are compared with other existing solutions, By comparisons between the existing solutions and the present new solution enable a clear appreciation of the effects of various parameters such as the geometric characteristics and mechanical properties of the components of the repaired beam, as well as the geotechnical stresses of the soil are considered. This research is helpful for the understanding on mechanical behaviour of the interface and design of the composite-concrete hybrid structures.

Feasibility studies of a reinforced concrete (RC) deep pile foundation system with the compressed air energy storage (CAES) technology were conducted in previous studies. However, those studies showed some technical limitations in its serviceability and durability performances. To overcome such drawbacks of the conventional RC energy pile system, various steel-concrete composite pile foundations are addressed in this study to be utilized as a dual functional system for an energy storage medium and load-resistant foundation. This study conducts finite element analyses to examine the applicability of various composite energy pile foundation systems considering the combined effects of structural loading, soil boundary forces, and internal air pressures induced by the thermos-dynamic cycle of compressed air. On this basis, it was clearly confirmed that the role of inner and outer tubes is essential in terms of reliable storage tank and better constructability of pile, respectively, and the steel tubes in the composite pile foundation can also ensure improved serviceability and durability performances compared to the conventional RC pile system.
In this paper, nonlinear partial differential equations of motion for a hybrid composite plate subjected to initial stresses on elastic foundations are established to investigate its nonlinear vibration behavior. Pasternak foundation and Winkler foundations are used to represent the plate-foundation interaction. The initial stress is taken to be a combination of pure bending stress plus an extensional stress in the example problems. The governing equations of motion are reduced to the time-dependent ordinary differential equations by the Galerkin's method. Then, the Runge-Kutta method is used to evaluate the nonlinear vibration frequency and frequency ratio of hybrid composite plates. The nonlinear vibration behavior is affected by foundation stiffness, initial stress, vibration amplitude and the thickness ratio of layer. The effects of various parameters on the nonlinear vibration of hybrid laminated plate are investigated and discussed.
Nonlinear vibration analysis of composite beam reinforced by carbon nanotubes resting on the nonlinear viscoelastic foundation is investigated in this study. The material properties of the composite beam is considered as a polymeric matrix by reinforced carbon nanotubes according to different distributions. With using Hamilton's principle, the governing nonlinear partial differential equations are derived based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. In the nonlinear kinematic assumption, the Von Kármán nonlinearity is used. The Galerkin's decomposition technique is utilized to discretize the governing nonlinear partial differential equation to nonlinear ordinary differential equation and then is solved by using of multiple time scale method. The nonlinear natural frequency and the nonlinear free response of the system is obtained. In addition, the effects of different patterns of reinforcement, linear and nonlinear damping coefficients of the viscoelastic foundation on the nonlinear vibration responses and phase trajectory of the carbon nanotube reinforced composite beam are investigated.
