This paper tried to construct statistical and econometric models on the basis of economic theory in order to discuss the issue of statistical efficiency and unbiasedness including the sample selection bias correcting problem. Comparative analytical tool were one stage Tobit of Maximum Likelihood estimation and Heckman's two-step Tobit of Ordinary Least Squares. The results showed that the adequacy of model for the analysis on demand and choice, we believe that there is no big difference in explanatory variables between the first selection model and the second linear probability model. Since the Lambda, the self- selectivity correction factor, in the Type II Tobit is not statistically significant, there is no self-selectivity in the Type II Tobit model, indicating that Type I Tobit model would give us better explanation in the demand for and choice which is less complicated statistical method rather than type II model.
Piping systems are composed of pipes with various thickness, diameter and length. Accurate analysis of a piping system requires a complicated three dimensional finite element model and a computer system with large memory size, while simplified models result in system response prediction with deteriorated accuracy. An efficient analysis model for piping systems is proposed in this study. The proposed model is developed by introducing a joint model which accounts for the behavior of a pipe connection. Pipes are represented by beam elements and the effect of local deformation of pipe connections are replaced by joint element deformations. The proposed model which is as simple and efficient as a beam model can be used to obtain piping system response with accuracy close to that of a finite element model.
In substitution of beam-nonlinear spring model for real-car, it may have errors due to complicated characteristics of joint and overestimation of joints stiffness. In this research, a method for the joint modeling was suggested by nonlinear static and dynamic analyses of beam and shell joint models and verified by the application of accomplished joint modeling method to simplified full car model. In consequence, modified simplified full car model was improved in local acceleration and rigid wall force. Finally, the frontal crash analyses with the dummy were established and the accelerations of accelerations of head, chest and pelvis had good agreements with those of shell model.

Nowadays the Rational Function Model (RFM), an abstract sensor model, is substituting physical sensor models for highly complicated imaging geometry. But RFM is algorithm to be required many Ground Control Points (GCP). In case of RFM of the third order, At least forty GCP are required far RFM generation. The purpose of this study is to research more efficient algorithm on GCP and accurate algorithm similar to RFM. The Polynomial Camera Model is relatively accurate and requires a little GCP in comparisons of RFM. This paper introduces how to generate Polynomial Camera Model and fundamental algorithms for construction of 3-D topographic data using the Polynomial Camera Model information in the Kompsat stereo pair and describes how to generate the 3-D ground coordinates by manual matching. Finally we tried to extract height information for the whole image area with the stereo matching technique based on the correlation.
The learning curve model is a mathematical form which represents the relationship between the manufacturing experience and its effectiveness. The semiconductor manufacturing is widely known as an appropriate example for the learning effect due to its complicated manufacturing processes. In this paper, I propose a new compound learning curve model for semiconductor products in which the general learning curve model and the growth curve are composed. The dependent variable and the effective independent variables of the model were abstracted from the existing learning curve models and selected according to multiple regression processes. The simulation results using the historical DRAM data show that the proposed compound learning curve model is one of adequate models for describing learning effect of semiconductor products.
A three-dimensional ecosystem model is applied to the Suyoung Bay, located at the southeastern part of Korea, to study of the material distribution in the time scale of several tens days. The model has included of the DIN(Dissolved Inorganic Nitrogen), DIP(Dissolved Inorganic Phosphate), phytoplankton, zooplankton and detritus, and also was coupled with the physical processes. The spatial distribution of chlorophyll-a and primary productivity in the model is determined by the physical and chemical-biological parameters. The horizontal distributions of the DIN, DIP and chlorophyll-a are decreased from the coast to the off-shore, though the nutrients show some more complicated pattern than the chlorophyll-a. The nutrient contents in the off-shore are low, and thus a relatively low productivity(chlorophyll-a) are presented. On the whole, the distribution of the results of model are smoother than the observed ones and some small scale variation in the observed data cannot be reproduced by the model due to the resolution limits of model. However, the basic pattern and the quantitavities has been reproduced by the model well.
In order to level electric power of the photovoltaic and wind-turbine system and ensure fast response of the fuel-cell and micro-turbine, the energy storage is required in the microgrid system. In this paper, a simplified simulation model of the battery energy storage for charging method with IUIa is developed using PSCAD/EMTDC. The model consists of e.m.f.(electromotive force), internal resistor and overvoltage capacitor. A method for deciding parameters of the model on a case-by-case basis is proposed. The developed model can be used in the simulation of a complicated system such as a microgrid system.
A binary integer programming model is proposed for a complex timetabling problem in a university faculty which conducts various degree programs. The decision variables are defined with fewer dimensions to economize the model size of large scale problems and to improve modeling efficiency. Binary matrices are used to incorporate the relationships between the courses and students, and the courses and teachers. The model includes generally applicable constraints such as completeness, uniqueness, and consecutiveness; and case specific constraints. The model was coded and solved using Open Solver which is an open-source optimizer available as an Excel add-in. The results indicate that complicated timetabling problems with large numbers of courses and student groups can be formulated more efficiently with fewer numbers of variables and constraints using the proposed modeling framework. The model could effectively generate timetables with a significantly lower number of work hours per week compared to currently used timetables. The model results indicate that the particular timetabling problem is bounded by the student overlaps, and both human and physical resource constraints are insignificant.
The complex 2-dimensional movements of fish during an annual migration circuit were generated and simulated by a chaotic model of fish movement, which was expanded from a small-scale movement model. Fish migration was modeled as a neural network including stimuli, central decision-making, and output responses as variables. The input stimuli included physical stimuli (temperature, salinity, turbidity, flow), biotic factors (prey, predators, life cycle) and landmarks or navigational aids (sun, moon, weather), values of which were all normalized as ratios. By varying the amplitude and period coefficients of the klinokinesis index using chaotic equations, model results (i.e., spatial orientation patterns of migration through time) were represented as fish feeding, spawning, overwintering, and sheltering. Simulations using this model generated 2-dimesional annual movements of sea bream migration in the southern and western seas of the Korean Peninsula. This model of object-oriented and large-scale fish migration produced complicated and sensitive migratory movements by varying both the klinokinesis coefficients (e.g., the amplitude and period of the physiological month) and the angular variables within chaotic equations.
The accurate determination of the fuel-cladding gap conductance as functions of rod burnup and power level may be a key to the design and safety analysis of a reactor. The incorporation of a sophisticated gap conductance model into nuclear design code for computing thermal hydraulic feedback effect has not been implemented mainly because of computational inefficiency due to complicated behavior of gap conductance. To avoid the time-consuming iteration scheme, simplification of the gap conductance model is done for the current design model. The simplified model considers only the heat conductance contribution to the gap conductance. The simplification is made possible by direct consideration of the gas conductivity depending on the composition of constituent gases in the gap and the fuel-cladding gap size from computer simulation of representative power histories. The simplified gap conductance model is applied to the various fuel power histories and the predicted gap conductances are found to agree well with the results of the design model.
