  • A conceptual model represents an understanding of a system that is going to be developed, which in this research, a driving simulation software to study driver behavior at signalised intersections. Therefore, video observation was conducted to study driver compliance behaviour within the dilemma zone at signalised intersection, with regards to driver's distance from the stop line during yellow light interval. The video was analysed using Thematic Analysis and the data extracted from it was analysed using Chi-Square Independent Test. The Thematic Analysis revealed two major themes which were traffic situation and driver compliance behaviour. Traffic situation is defined as traffic surrounding the driver, such as no car in front and behind, car in front, and car behind. Meanwhile, the Chi-Square Test result indicates that within the dilemma zone, there was a significant relationship between driver compliance behaviour and driver's distance from the stop line during yellow light interval. The closer the drivers were to the stop line, the more likely they were going to comply. In contrast, drivers showed higher non-compliant behavior when further away from stop line. This finding could help in the development of conceptual model of driving simulation with purpose in studying driver behavior.

  • This paper provides a guideline for specifying the operational compliance characteristics considering the location of compliance center and the grasp points in assembly tasks using robot hands. Through various assembly tasks, we analyze the conditions of the achievable operational stiffness matrix with respect to the location of compliance center and the grasp points. Also, we show that some of coupling stiffness elements in the operational space cannot be planned arbitrarily. As a result it is concluded that the location of compliance center on the grasped object and the grasp points play important roles for successful assembly tasks and also the operational stiffness matrix should be carefully specified by considering those conditions.

  • In this paper we analyzed the effect of compliance mismatch with respect to the thickness variation of elastic foundation(fatty tissue) in end-to-end anastomosis. This study considered the preliminary deformed shape induced by suturing in the anastomosis of coronary artery and PTFE with different diameters using simplified suturing model and the fatty tissue surrounding heart and coronary artery for more accurate result using finite element method. Area compliance(C$\sub$A/) was used to analyze the final deformed shape of the anastomotic part with respect to the thickness variation of fatty tissue under mean blood pressure, 100 mmHg(13.3kPa). The results obtained were as follows : 1. When the elastic foundation, assumed to be incompressive material, surrounded the grafts in anastomosis, the compliance mismatch of artery and PTFE was improved by 47∼72%. 2. As the initial diameter ratio(R$\sub$I/) became larger, the higher difference of compliance was induced in spite of elastic foundation surrounding grafts.

  • Wall shear rate or stress is believed to be a major hemodynamic variable influencing atherosclerosis and artery-graft anastomic intimal hyperplasia. The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of radial wall motion, artery-graft compliance and diameter mismatch, and impedance phase angle on the wall shear rate distribution near an end-to-end artery-graft anastomosis model. The results show that radial wall motion of the elastic artery model lowers the mean wall shear rates under pulsatile flow condition by 15 to 20 % comparing to those under steady flow condition at the same mean flow rate. Impedance phase angle seems to have small effects on the mean and amplitude of the wall shear rate distribution. In order to study the effects of compliance and diameter mismatch on the wall shear rates, two models are studied-Model I has 6% and Model I has 6% and Model II has 11% smaller graft diameter. Divergent geometry caused by diameter mismatch near the distal sites reduces the mean wall shear rates significantly, and this low shear region is believed to be prone to intimal hyperplasia.

  • Increasing occupational cerebrovascular & cardiovascular disease, it becomes the most serious problem in the occupational health management. Hypertension is the most important risk factor of cerebrovascular & cardiovascular disease. Although treatment for hypertension has the priority, hypertension has not been managed systematically at the worksite. The objectives of this study were to investigate the actual situation of its treatment, figure out what factors can affect compliance for hypertension treatment and analyze the relations between compliance and employment status. Subjects were 28 workers who have been diagnosed as hypertension at periodic health examination, 20 workers who have been managed for hypertension at dispensary and 22 workers who were diagnosed during the study periods. The results of the study were as follows; 1. More women have been hired as part time workers and had lower education background and income than the full time workers. 2. Among the factors that have been known to affect the treatment compliance, part time workers had less supports from the company than full time workers. 3. We got the comparison of difference between compliance and variables that the factor grade of cure promotion and average ages are high in high compliance. In conclusion there were not the difference of compliance by employment status. But it was hard to rule out the selection vias because the sample size was so small. So it seems difficult to generalized the conclusion that employment status doesn't affect the treatment compliance.

  • Purpose: This study examines the impact of cultural dimensions as an intervening variable on taxpayer compliance in Makassar, Indonesia, with a focus on the Bugis tribe's cultural context. Research design data and methodology: The research aims to understand how attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, influenced by local culture, affect taxpayer compliance. A quantitative research design was employed, collecting primary data through questionnaires distributed to 150 taxpayers, with 125 valid responses analyzed using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) and Partial Least Squares (PLS) methodology. Results: The results indicate that cultural factors significantly mediate the relationship between subjective norms and taxpayer compliance, highlighting the role of local cultural values, such as "Siri Na Pacce," in shaping compliance behavior. Subjective norms positively influence both cultural attitudes and compliance, while attitudes and perceived control have a less significant impact. The findings suggest that integrating cultural awareness into tax policy and education can enhance compliance rates in culturally rich regions. Conclusions: this study underscores the importance of considering cultural dimensionsin tax administration, particularly in regions with strong cultural identities, to improve the effectiveness of tax compliance strategies. The findings contribute to the broader understanding of how cultural context influences economic behavior, offering insights for policymakers and tax authorities.

  • This paper presents modeling and simulation of the bump foil bearings with consideration of the elastic behavior of the foil and gas compressibility. Heshmat had originally introduced the simple compliance model to estimate the EHL(elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication) performance. But this approach can not consider the deflection of top foil at the edge of bearing, so model is insufficient to analyze in case that the eccentricity ratio is greater than I. So the top foil is considered as a simple beam model supported by linear spring elements, and the bump foil deflection can be simple compliance model. The EHL calculations are performed for convention rigid type, classical foil type, variable pitch type and double bump type toil bearings. This paper presents that 2nd or 3rd generation bearings have excellent performance in every speeds.

  • Noncompliance with treatment is a serious problem in the management of hypertension. We explored self-reported medication taking compliance behavior of 194 high blood pressure patients using modified health belief model hypothesizing interaction between model components. Data were collected from patients resistered hwachon community hypertension control program during February, 1993. Bivariate analysis showed perceived severity of complication, present symptom experience(p<0.05), perceived severity of hypertension and education leve(p<0.01) were significantly related to treatment experience. Logit analysis revealed that perceived severity of hypertension, perceived benefits of treatment, perceived barriers to treatment and interaction term between perceived severity of hypertension and perceived benefits of treatment contributed treatment experience. Health education from mass media was siglificantly related to continuity of treatment. We also concluded that the inclusion of interaction effects between health belief model components and the use of patient group as analysis unit lead to better study results.

  • A finite element analysis of end-to-end artery/PTFE anastomosis has been presented in this study to evaluate the distribution of compliance and stresses in the vicinity of the anastomosis due to any mismatch in compliance characteristics. The artery wall was assumed to be made of linear isotropic material in this simplified model and a nonlinear analysis and convergency study with respect to increasing meshed element numbers were performed with a mean artery pressure loading of the artery-PTFE model. Also, sub-modeling method was Introduced to progress the accuracy of the finite element analysis. The results are as follow : 1. A hypercompliant zone on the artery side was observed around 4.Omm from the anastomosis and a high hoop stresses in the wall of artery and PTFE was dominant. 2. An artery displays large deformation so that nonlinear analysis and sub-modeling method was used. 3. An anastomosis with the thinner thickness and larger diameter PTFE (B type) could reduce the compliance disagreement.
