This paper presents a new approach of recognizing a 3D object using a single camera, based on the extended convex hull of its silhouette. It aims at minimizing the DB size and simplifying the processes for matching and feature extraction. For this purpose, two concepts are introduced: extended convex hull and measurable region. Extended convex hull consists of convex curved edges as well as convex polygons. Measurable region is the cluster of the viewing vectors of a camera represented as the points on the orientation sphere from which a specific set of surfaces can be measured. A measurable region is represented by the extended convex hull of the silhouette which can be obtained by viewing the object from the center of the measurable region. Each silhouette is represented by a relation graph where a node describes an edge using its type, length, reality, and components. Experimental results are included to show that the proposed algorithm works efficiently even when the objects are overlapped and partially occluded. The time complexity for searching the object model in the database is O(N) where N is the number of silhouette models.

Recently, electronic systems including computers have been rapidly shrinking in size while at the same time the complexity and the capability of these systems continue to grow/sup [1]/. Thus, system volumes have decreased as system power has increased, resulting in dramatic increases in system heat density. The high temperature of the computer system is considered as the major reason for low performance and shortening life of the product. It is necessary to solve this problem due to the heat density increased and to develop the design skill of the computer cabinet according to miniaturization. M4500 desk-top computer was selected for analyzing the thermal management inside cabinet. The cabinet volume, the configuration of the heating devices, the size and location of air ventilation, and the fan selection have been investigated as the important parameters to find out an optimal cabinet design. The objectives of this project were to analyze which design parameters would affect cooling performance by thermal strategy, to design an optimal model, and to measure the temperatures of the main parts to confirm the effect of the thermal design. The temperatures of each part of the optimal model were compared with those of the existing model. As a result. the volume of this miniaturized model was about 16% smaller than that of M4500 without any change in operating performance.

Nowadays, the complexity of object tracking models among hardware applications has become a more in-demand duty to complete in various indeterminable environment tracking situations with multifunctional algorithm skills. In this paper, we propose a virtual city environment using AirSim (Aerial Informatics and Robotics Simulation - AirSim, CityEnvironment) and use the DQN (Deep Q-Learning) model of deep reinforcement learning model in the virtual environment. The proposed object tracking DQN network observes the environment using a deep reinforcement learning model that receives continuous images taken by a virtual environment simulation system as input to control the operation of a virtual drone. The deep reinforcement learning model is pre-trained using various existing continuous image sets. Since the existing various continuous image sets are image data of real environments and objects, it is implemented in 3D to track virtual environments and moving objects in them.

Background The three-dimensional (3D) evaluation of skeletal stability after orthognathic surgery is a time-consuming and complex procedure. The complexity increases further when evaluating the surgery-first orthognathic approach (SFOA). Herein, we propose and validate a simple time-saving method of 3D analysis using a single software, demonstrating high accuracy and repeatability. Methods This retrospective cohort study included 12 patients with skeletal class 3 malocclusion who underwent bimaxillary surgery without any presurgical orthodontics. Computed tomography (CT)/cone-beam CT images of each patient were obtained at three different time points (preoperation [T0], immediately postoperation [T1], and 1 year after surgery [T2]) and reconstructed into 3D images. After automatic surface-based alignment of the three models based on the anterior cranial base, five easily located anatomical landmarks were defined to each model. A set of angular and linear measurements were automatically calculated and used to define the amount of movement (T1-T0) and the amount of relapse (T2-T1). To evaluate the reproducibility, two independent observers processed all the cases, One of them repeated the steps after 2 weeks to assess intraobserver variability. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were calculated at a 95% confidence interval. Time required for evaluating each case was recorded. Results Both the intra- and interobserver variability showed high ICC values (more than 0.95) with low measurement variations (mean linear variations: 0.18 mm; mean angular variations: 0.25 degree). Time needed for the evaluation process ranged from 3 to 5 minutes. Conclusion This approach is time-saving, semiautomatic, and easy to learn and can be used to effectively evaluate stability after SFOA.
PURPOSE. This study aimed to create a digitized database of fabricated obturators to be kept for patients' potential emergency needs. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A chairside intraoral scanner was used to scan the surfaces of an acrylic resin obturator. The scanned data was recorded and saved as a single standard tessellation language file using a three-dimensional modeling software. A simulated obturator model was manufactured using fused deposition modeling technique in a three-dimensional printer. RESULTS. The entire obturator was successfully scanned regardless of its structural complexity, modeled as three-dimensional data, and stored in the digital system of our clinic at a relatively small size (19.6 MB). A simulated obturator model was then accurately manufactured from these data. CONCLUSION. This study provides a proof-of-concept for the use of digital technology to create a digitized database of obturators for edentulous maxillectomy patients.
Apartment building site planning is one of time consuming and labor-intensive tasks in architectural design field, due to its complexity in zoning regulations, building codes, local restrictions, and site-specific conditions. In other words, the process can be seen as a very complicated mathematical function with layers of variables and parameters, which ironically can be automated using computational methods on parametric tools. In this paper, a practical method of automating site planning of an apartment complex has been proposed by utilizing parametric approaches in Rhino 3D and Grasshopper. Two primary parameters, building heights and positions, determine the efficacy of building layouts under all regulatory standards, thus testing out numerous combinations of the two will produce some successful layout alternatives. For this, equation solver has been used for iterating the parametric model to sort out meaningful results among others. It also has been proven that the proposed process significantly reduced the time in site planning down to less than an hour on most cases, and many successful alternatives could be obtained by using multiple computers. Post evaluation processes such as day light and view shed analysis helped sort out the best performing ones out of functioning alternatives.
In the slope stability analysis and design, Limit Equilibrium Method (LEM) and Shear Strength Reduction technique (SSR) are mainly used. Both methods are able to perform two and three dimensional analysis. SSR is considered to be more sensitive and more reasonable than LEM by many researchers. However, in practice LEM is still widely used because of the increase of analysis time and complexity of the model in SSR. In this study, three dimensional analysis of the protruding rock slope is performed by SSR in order to study the effects of protruding length using rock slope FLAC 3D. In this study, as results of analysis variations of the safety factor have been studied according to slope angle, slope height, the soil strength, protruding slope length projected variables. The results show that the factor of safety as more affected by the shapes of the protruding rock slope than the rock strength.
CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) is one representative deep learning algorithm, which can extract high-level spatial and spectral features, and has been applied for hyperspectral image classification. However, one significant drawback behind the application of CNNs in hyperspectral images is the high dimensionality of the data, which increases the training time and processing complexity. To address this problem, several CNN based hyperspectral image classification studies have exploited PCA (Principal Component Analysis) for dimensionality reduction. One limitation to this is that the spectral information of the original image can be lost through PCA. Although it is clear that the use of PCA affects the accuracy and the CNN training time, the impact of PCA for CNN based hyperspectral image classification has been understudied. The purpose of this study is to analyze the quantitative effect of PCA in CNN for hyperspectral image classification. The hyperspectral images were first transformed through PCA and applied into the CNN model by varying the size of the reduced dimensionality. In addition, 2D-CNN and 3D-CNN frameworks were applied to analyze the sensitivity of the PCA with respect to the convolution kernel in the model. Experimental results were evaluated based on classification accuracy, learning time, variance ratio, and training process. The size of the reduced dimensionality was the most efficient when the explained variance ratio recorded 99.7%~99.8%. Since the 3D kernel had higher classification accuracy in the original-CNN than the PCA-CNN in comparison to the 2D-CNN, the results revealed that the dimensionality reduction was relatively less effective in 3D kernel.
The accurate determination of formation density and the physical properties of rocks is the most critical logging tasks which can be obtained using gamma-ray transport and detection tools. Though the simulation works published so far have considerably improved the knowledge of the parameters that govern the responses of the detectors in these tools, recent studies have found considerable differences between the results of using a conventional model of a homogeneous mixture of formation and fluid and an inhomogeneous fractured medium. It has increased concerns about the importance of the complexity of the model used for the medium in simulation works. In the present study, we have suggested two various models for the flow of the fluid in porous media and fractured rock to be used for logging purposes. For a typical gamma-gamma logging tool containing a 137Cs source and two NaI detectors, simulated by using the MCNPX code, a simplified porous (SP) model in which the formation is filled with elongated rectangular cubes loaded with either mineral material or oil was investigated. In this model, the oil directly reaches the top of the medium and the connection between the pores is not guaranteed. In the other model, the medium is a large 3-D matrix of 1 cm3 randomly filled cubes. The designed algorithm to fill the matrix sites is so that this realistic random (RR) model provides the continuum growth of oil flow in various disordered directions and, therefore, fulfills the concerns about modeling the rock textures consist of extremely complex pore structures. For an arbitrary set of oil concentrations and various formation materials, the response of the detectors in the logging tool has been considered as a criterion to assess the effect of modeling for the distribution of pores in the formation on simulation studies. The results show that defining a RR model for describing heterogeneities of a porous medium does not effectively improve the prediction of the responses of logging tools. Taking into account the computational cost of the particle transport in the complex geometries in the Monte Carlo method, the SP model can be satisfactory for gamma-gamma logging purposes.

As high-resolution satellite images have enabled large scale topographic mapping and monitoring on global scale with short revisit time, agile sensor orientation, and large swath width, many countries make effort to secure the satellite image information. In Korea, KOMPSAT-2 (KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite-2) was launched in July 28 2006 with high specification. These satellites have stereo image acquisition capability for 3D mapping and monitoring. To efficiently handle stereo images such as stereo display and monitoring, the accurate epipolar image generation process is prerequisite. However, the process was highly limited due to complexity in epipolar geometry of pushbroom sensor. Recently, the piecewise approach to generate epipolar images using RPC was developed and tested for in-track IKONOS stereo images. In this paper, the piecewise approach was tested for KOMPSAT-2 across-track stereo images to see how accurately KOMPSAT-2 epipolar images can be generated for 3D geospatial applications. In the experiment, two across-track stereo sets from three KOMPSAT-2 images of different dates were tested using RPC as the sensor model. The test results showed that one-pixel level of y-parallax was achieved for manually measured tie points.
