  • This study performed a detecting research of promising R&D field utilizing intuitive methodology regarding OLED illumination industry. For this, 69 professionals of the illumination industry in Korea were composed as a panel to hold an in-depth interview and survey for 1 month. The study classified the OLED illumination industry as 4 fields of panel, material/component for panel, manufacturing equipment, and lighting system, and selected core technology for each field, and divided it into a total of 14 possible fields for R&D. As a result of evaluating the technological competitive power for each field, the field in Korea which received the highest technological competitive power was OLED panel, and contrarily, technological competitive power of material/component for OLED panel showed the lowest, which requires improvement Meanwhile, evaluating economical aspect, conformity to policy, and effectiveness of R&D in general, 7 promising R&D fields were selected. The 4 core technologies of OLED panel, which are, white, transparent, color change and flexible OLED manufacturing technology were evaluated as the most promising fields, and next, organic material for surface light source, material/component for substrate and equipment for forming large sized substrate were evaluated as promising fields.

The concept of climate which is made our formative sense include topography, climate, soil, plant and so on. This influenced a lot to set up a foundation of Korean fashion design. And the naturalism by Korean climate newly created and developed shape, color, material and design. It is our duty to develope design based on naturalism to secure the competitive power against the world in this period of information and this design is getting important as a high value added method put into Korean culture. Therefore, developing Korean design which shapes the beauty of Korean nature and traditional culture will have a important competitive power in the world. Moreover, it will make a new tradition of Korean fashion culture stagnated by internationally universalized western fashion after the modernization. Also, it will be needed to develop a common design which can be agreed not only us but all the world for the request of these days of international. • This study predicted Port trade volume by considering Korea's export to China and import Com China separately using ARIMA model (Multiplicative Seasonal ARIMA Model). We predicted monthly Port trade volumes for 27 months from October 2008 to December 2010 using monthly data from September 2008 to January 2001 using monthly data. As a result of prediction, we found that the export volume decreased in January, February, August and September while the import volume decreased in February, March, August and September. As the decrease period was clearly differentiated, it was possible to predict export and import volumes. Therefore, it is believed that the results of this study will generate useful basic data for policy makers or those working for export and import enterprises when they set up policies and management plans. And to improve competitive power of Port trade, this study suggests privatization of Port, improvement of information capability, improvement of competitive power of Port management companies, support for Port distribution companies, plans for active encouragement of transshipment, and management of added value creation policy.

  • This study investigates the competitiveness of the clothing and textile industry in North Korea, compare to those of China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam from 1993 to 2010; in addition, it explores the potential cooperation between South Korea and North Korea. First, a revealed comparative advantage (RCA) was used to investigate the competitive performance of clothing and textile industry in North Korea. The results reveal that North Korea and Viet Nam had superior comparative advantages from 1993 to 2010. Second, in order to investigate the factors that affect the competitive performance, depth interviews based on Porter's Diamond of Competitive Advantage were designed and completed by government officers and practitioners working in the clothing and textile industry field. The results show that cheap labor, the stable demand of South Korea and China for basic products, lack of supporting and related industries, and organizational power highly influence the competitive performance of clothing and textile in North Korea. This result provides insight into the potential and limitations of the clothing and textile business. In addition, this study provides a better understanding of the effects of inter-Korean economic cooperation in socialist states.

  • This paper is mainly associated with setting out an agenda for the transformation of security by creating a new framework for a security system, which can maximise its effectiveness. Noticeably, this research shows empirically that crimes are getting a major cost to organisations, which if reduced by security and investigations could reap substantial rewards to the finances of an organisation. However, the problem is that the delivery of security is frequently delegated to personnel (e.g. security guards) with limited training, inadequate education, and no real commitment to professionalism - 'sub-prime' security, finally causing security failures. Therefore, if security can be enhanced to reduce the crime cost, this will produce financial benefits to business, and consequently could produce a competitive advantage. For this, the paper basically draws upon Luke's theoretical framework for deconstructing 'power' into three dimensions. Using this three-dimensional approach, the paper further sets out a model of how security can be enhanced, utilising a new Security Risk Management (SRM) model, and how can this SRM model create competitive advantage in business. Finally, this paper ends with the six strategies needed to enhance the quality of security: refiguring as SRM, Professional Staff, Accurate Measurement, Prevention, Cultural Change, and Metrics.
