Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of auricular acupressure on competitive state anxiety and the accuracy of breaking in taekwondo players. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study with a time-series design. Twenty-two taekwondo breaking players were assigned to the control group for the first two weeks and then assigned to the experimental group for the next two weeks. Anxiety was measured by the revised Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 and the accuracy of breaking was measured as a percentage of breaking the wooden board. Results: Auricular acupressure for two weeks significantly increased the accuracy of breaking from 80.83±7.99% to 90.92±7.57% (t=7.74, p<.001). Auricular acupressure for two weeks significantly increased anxiety from 35.66±10.36 to 50.64±7.45 (t=4.38, p<.001). Among three subtypes of competitive state anxiety, somatic anxiety was increased from 12.48±4.97 to 22.95±4.54 (t=2.09, p=.011). Cognitive anxiety was significantly increased from 10.11±3.96 to 14.68±3.89 (t=5.37, p<.001) but self-confidence was not changed. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that auricular acupressure was effective in increasing the accuracy of breaking in taekwondo players.

The purposes of this study were to examine the influence of competitive state anxiety on outcome of games, therefore furnish practical information on sports coach. The Subjects of this study were sampled 200 bowling athletes using the stratified cluster random sampling. The data collected questionnaire designed for this study were consisted of Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2: CSAI-2 of Martens(1990). Statistics employed in this study to data analysis was regression analysis. Based on the result of the study, the following conclusions appear warranted: 1. Competitive state anxiety of bowling athletes were influence on result ranking. 2. Competitive state anxiety of bowling athletes were influence on average score.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of an 8-week competitive exercise program on physical fitness, psychological variables, and video-game playtime in game-addicted adolescents. Methods: All subjects were screened by a game behavior diagnosis scale questionnaire, and a total of 7 game-addicted, male adolescents ($16{\pm}2$ yrs of age) participated in the study. All subjects were informed of the study's purpose, procedures, and risks, and a consent form was obtained from each subject. The 8-week soccer and basketball exercise program included twice-weekly sessions of 120 minutes per session. All data were presented as $mean{\pm}SE$, and the variables were analyzed with a paired t-test. Results: Following the 8-week intervention, cardiovascular endurance and grip strength were significantly increased (approximately 17 and 7%, respectively [p<0.05]). Although there was no statistical significance on flexibility, vertical jump, and zigzag-run, all variables showed an increasing tendency. Anxiety levels changed from a mild anxiety state to a normal state, and depression levels also altered from moderate to a normal state. The video-game playtime was reduced about 20% during weekends and vacation periods. Conclusion: Given these combined results, 8 weeks of regular participation in competitive exercise (soccer/basketball) may contribute to positive effects on physical fitness, psychological variables, and video-game playtime in computer-game addicted adolescents.
The purpose of this study was to develop relaxation training contents for middle and high school archery players with considering the ecological validity of social, cultural, and sports environment in Korean but also examine the effect of developing relaxation training contents through case study approach and interviews. The relaxation training contents was based on previous researches about relaxation program. In addition, in order to develop the program 3 archery experts and 2 sport psychologists had meetings. The relaxation training contents categorized as orientation, breathing regulation, progressive relaxation training, cognitive restructuring, meditation, heart rate biofeedback training, autogenic training, behavior therapy, self regulation. The experimental group were 6 male Korean national archery substitute players, who were selected in 2007. The effects was examined on competitive state anxiety inventory-2, heart rates, archery score and interviews. As the result of applying the developed program of this study on the field, competitive state anxiety, somatic state anxiety and heart rate were decreased. In the interviews athletes told that they were relaxed psychologically and physically. This result demonstrated the relaxation training program were effective.
This research analyzed how the new and senior security guards employed privately are influenced on their task performance by the factors operated before task performance: cognitive state anxiety, physical state anxiety and state confidence which are the sub-factors of the Competitive State Anxiety(CSAI-II) according to the educational background, career, gender and athletic capacity. First, as for the new and senior security guards' state anxiety before task performance, the senior guards felt the cognitive anxiety more than the new guards, but there was not a distinct difference statistically. Therefore, it is estimated that there is little difference in the level of cognitive anxiety between the new security guards with insufficient career and the seniors. Second, the level of the physical state anxiety was shown higher from the senior guards than from the new ones and had a distinct difference. However, it seems to be derived from the extent of physical development as the seniors are at the time of vigorous physical development. Third, the level of state anxiety had no distinct difference between them statistically though the new security guards felt it higher than the seniors. Fourth, the state confidence was shown higher from the seniors than from the new and had a distinct difference statistically, also. Fifth, as for gender, the male and female guards did not have a difference so much in the cognitive and physical state anxiety, and state confidence. Sixth, as a whole, the state anxiety was highest as for the security guards with athletic capacity level 1 and 2. Those with the level 2, and 3 and the level above 7 felt it less than those with the level 5-6, which had a distinct difference in statistics. The manager of the new and senior security guards should make them dispel anxiety in piece of mind through physical and mental education encouraging them to have self-confidence, practical training, and psychological training based on the analysis of causes of various cases.

Objectives: Academic stress poses a significant risk for the mental health of medical students, and a feasible group intervention program for managing academic stress is required. The purpose of this study was to examine the clinical effectiveness of emotional freedom techniques (EFT) on the mental health of Korean medical students. Methods: The class of first-year medical school students (n=36) participated in an after-school EFT group intervention program comprising six sessions (15 minutes/session, three weeks) to analyze its clinical effectiveness as a single-group test-retest clinical study. The changes in the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Test Anxiety Inventory (TAI), Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) scores were examined using a paired t-test and Cohen's D at post-EFT and two-week follow-up. Results: There were significant curtailments at post-EFT and follow-up measures in TAI-Total (t=2.704 and t=3.289), TAI-Worry (t=2.297 and t=2.454), TAI-Emotionality (t=2.763 and t=3.654), PSS-Negative Perspective (t=2.659 and t=3.877), and PANAS-Negative Affect (t=2.885 and t=3.259) subscales, however not in PSS-Positive Perspective (t=-1.279 and t=-1.101) and PANAS-Positive Affect (t=0.194 and t=-0.122) subscales. The trait anxiety (t=2.227) was significantly mitigated in the post-EFT measure and the state anxiety (t=2.30) in the follow-up measure. Conclusions: The EFT group intervention alleviated test stress, negative affect, and anxiety in the Korean medical students. This study contributes to an understanding of academic stress and EFT intervention in the competitive environment of medical education.

Two cyclists participated in this study and gave consent to the experimental procedure. One was dominant cyclist (years: 21 yrs, height: 177 cm, mass: 70 kg), and the other was non-dominant cyclist (years: 21, height: 176, mass: 70). Kinematic data were recorded using six infrared cameras (240Hz) and QTM (software). Physiological data (VO2max, AT) were acquired according to graded exercising test with cycle ergometer and power with Wingate test used by Bar-Or et. al (1977) and to evaluate muscle function with Cybex. Psychological data were collected with competitive state anxiety inventory (CSAI-2) that was devised by Martens et. al (1990) and athletes' self-management questionnaire (ASMQ) of Huh (2003). It appears that the dominant's CV of ankle joint angle was higher than non-dominant's CV and dominant's pedaling pattern was consistent in biomechanics domain, which the dominant's values for all factors ware higher than non-dominant's values in physical, and physiological domain, and their values between cognitive anxiety and somatic anxiety were contrary to each other in psychology. Further research on multi-disciplines may lead to the development of tailored-optimal training programs applicable with key factors to enhance athletic performance by means of research including athlete, coach and parents.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of arousal control training conjugated heart rate biofeedback for national substitute three archery players. The arousal control training programs was developed on previous researches and 3 archery experts and 1 sport psychologist had meetings. The training programs contained as orientation, breathing regulation, progressive relaxation technique, heart rate biofeedback, cognitive restructuring, routine and consisted of 24 weeks. XCOACH was utilized as heart rate biofeedback instrument. The effects was examined on competitive state anxiety inventory-2, archery score and ranking, observation, interviews and self assessment. As the results, the score of subfactor was improved on somatic state anxiety, cognitive state anxiety and self-confidence. As the results of observation, interviews and self assessment, the ability of arousal control was enhanced by using effective psychological skills conjugated heart rate biofeedback.
Excessive stress is harmful to academic performance in children and may lead to dropping out of school. To meet the demands of a modern life-style which is full of speed, stress and tension, an all-round child health program is crucial. The use of yoga for children has diverse applications in maintaining and developing their physical, mental, intellectual, emotional and spiritual levels. Yoga, through its physical postures (asana), breathing practices (pranayama), cleansing techniques (kriya), meditation therapies (dhyana) and relaxation training (yoga nidra) yields a positive effect in the management of stress in children. Yoga practice benefited children by improving their eye-hand coordination, attention span, levels of concentration, competitive performance and relaxation. Visually impaired children showed a significant decrease in their abnormal anxiety levels when they practiced yoga for three weeks, while a program of physical activity had no such effect. Socially disadvantaged children in a remand home showed significant improvements in sleep, appetite and general well being, as well as a decrease in physiological arousal after yoga. In one study, it is found that a 4-week program of asana and meditation lowers the aggressive behavior of children. Meditation helped to reduce problems related to maladaptive behavior, increase emotional and physical health and psychological well-being in children. Finally, the possible role of yoga in improving the mental state and general well-being of children with cancer is being explored.
