This paper investigates previous theories on English focus realization and attempts to find out the overall acoustic characteristics of English focus. It has been argued in previous studies that English focus can be defined as a new information that is not recoverable from the context (Halliday 1967), a complementary element of presupposition (Jackendoff 1972), and what is predicated about the topic in a sentence (Sgall 1973, Gundel 1974). The phonetic realization of English focus in an utterance has been said to be either L+H*/H*, or falling accent. Yet it is a more or less simplified pattern not based on real data obtained from native speakers of English, and it does not consider the various pragmatic and contextual situations. In our experiments we found that native speakers uttered English focus sentences in different ways according to the different focus structure. Another notable result is that Korean speakers, when provided with the same experimental material, are neither able to distinguish different focus types nor deaccent the elements that are not focused in an utterance.

This paper is written for foundation of standard <Shanghan Lun> text to research febrile disease referring from <Jin-gui-yu-han-jing>, Kang-ping-ben, Tang-ben, Song-ben and supplementarily Gui-lin-gu-ben. Through the comparative and analytical investigation of 30 articles of ${\ulcorner}$Taiyang bing Volume 1${\lrcorner}$, 22 articles were newly compiled after getting rid of doubtful sentences or putting together. Also, one article, "wind damage of Tai-yang give rise to fever and chilling", was added from Tang-ben. And many articles were unchanged or in some case, collected together with relevant articles to make sense more.

The purpose of this research is to propose a set of basic guidelines for the construction of English test suites, a set of basic guidelines for the construction of Korean test suites to objectively evaluate the performance of machine translation systems. For this end, we constructed 650 English test sentences, 650 Korean test sentences, and developed the statistical methods and tools for the comparative evaluation of the English-Korean machine translation systems. It also evaluates the existing commercial English-Korean machine translation systems. The importance of this research lies in that it will promote an awareness of the importance and need of testing machine translation systems within the Natural Language Community. This research will also make a big contribution to the development of evaluation methods and techniques for appropriate test suites for Korean information processing systems. The results of this research can be used by the natural language community to test the performance and development of their information processing systems or machine translation systems.

본 논문은 비교 마이닝(comparison mining) 의 일환인 비교 요소 자동 추출에 관하여 연구한다. 비교 마이닝은 텍스트 마이닝의 한 분야로서 대용량의 텍스트를 대상으로 비교 관계롤 자동 분석하며, 비교 문장인지 아닌지를 식별하는 단계, 비교 타입을 분류하는 단계, 다양한 비교 요소들을 추출하는 단계, 추출된 요소를 분석 및 요약하는 단계 등을 거치게 된다. 본 연구에서는 특정 타입의 비교 문장이 주어졌을때, 그 문장에서 비교 요소를 자동으로 추출하는 단계의 과제를 수행하며, 우열 비교 타입 및 최상급 타입 문장들을 대상으로 비교 주체, 비교 대상, 비교 술어를 추출한다. 실험 과정으로는, 우선 비교 요소 후보들을 선정하고, 그 후 각 요소별로 확률을 계산하여 가장 높은 수치를 기록한 요소를 정답으로 채택하게 된다. 확률 계산은 지지 벡터 기계 (Support Vector Machine)를 이용한다. 인터넷 상의 다양한 도메인에서 추출된 비교 문장들을 대상으로 비교 요소 추출을 수출한 결과, 정확도 86.81 %의 우수한 성능을 산출 할 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study was to examine the characteristics of prosody of utterance of ambiguous sentences in patients with neurogenic communication disorders. Ambiguous words on which prosody may have an impact were used to investigate this matter. The characteristics of tone duration, pitch and intensity were analyzed to examine the characteristics of prosody in patients with lesions in the left or right hemisphere and normal controls. The whole process was recorded using a Praat 4.3.14 and for statistical analyses, two-way Anova and multiple comparative analyses were carried out using SPSS10.0 for Windows. The conclusions of this study are as follows: The length of vowel in homograph in Korean was different depending on the meaning and the duration of vowel was the longest in patients with lesions in the left hemisphere. There was agreed that they had problem of timing of prosody(Danly & Shapiro, 1982). On the other hand, there found that patients with lesions in the right hemisphere had deficiency of changeability in pitch. Among various acoustic parameters, this study focused on the duration which are closely related to suprasegmental characteristics of prosody. More acoustic parameters should be taken into account in future studies.

Deaccentuation' means the phenomenon that the accent on the particular element which deserves to be accented, disappears and loses the property of intonational prominence. Based on some theoretical background, we divided the cases where deaccentuation can be placed into six categories : the first, the case that the words already mentioned are repeated in the context; the second, the case that the element can be recovered anaphorically or situationally; the third, the case that the elements are semantically weightless; the fourth, the case that the meaning of the word is empty; the fifth, the case that the elements are less informative, so that they are easy to predict; the sixth, the case that the elements are located after the focused words. Then we organized the context and the experimental sentences corresponding to each category. The utterances of Korean and English native speakers were recorded and analysed based on the ToBI system and compared to each other, in order to find out that Korean speakers can distinguish the difference within each sentence pair, and produce them with appropriate intonation similar to that of native speakers.

본 연구는 한국, 싱가포르, 미국, 일본의 초등학교 교과서에 제시된 모으기와 가르기, 덧셈 및 뺄셈의 도입 단원을 비교하고 분석한 것이다. 분석의 초점은 시각적 모델 및 제시된 문제 상황과의 연결성, 언어적 표현 및 시각적 모델과의 연결성, 관계적 이해 및 추가 활동이다. 분석 결과, 교과서에 따라 문제 상황, 시각적 모델, 언어적 표현이 다르게 구현됨에 따라 연결성도 다르게 나타났다. 각 교과서는 문제 상황의 제시 방법과 순서에서 차이가 있었고, 시각적 모델 측면에서도 하나의 모델을 지속적으로 사용하는 경우와 다양한 모델을 사용하는 경우가 있었다. 언어적 표현 측면에서는 각 교과서 마다 다른 특징이 있었으며, 관계적 이해 측면에서는 모든 교과서가 등호 양변의 값이 같다는 것을 강조하는 활동을 제시하였다. 이와 같은 연구 결과를 바탕으로 덧셈과 뺄셈 도입과 관련된 문제 상황, 시각적 모델의 활용, 언어적 표현 방안 등 후속 교과서의 단원 개발과 관련한 시사점을 논의하였다.

This thesis is about a comparative study how they use technology in math education in both Korea and U.S.A. The subjects of investigation are the representative math education journals in Korea and America-Mathlove of Korea and Mathematics Teacher of U.S.A. I have chosen and studied contents that is related to technology in the two journals which were published for 10 years from 1995 to 2004. The followings are the theme of the study. Theme 1 (The situation of environment) : I have examined the usage situation of technology in Korea and America, by studying and analysing the rates and types of sentences contained technology in the two journals. Theme 2 (The situation of substances) : By studying and analysing substances and materials of two journals, I have made a study what changes technology of math education in U.S.A and Korea made for math learning contents and materials. Theme 3 (the situation of methods) : I made a study about how technology has affected the methods of teaching and learning math in both Korea and U.S.A by analysing and studying the methods which they have applied to math education.

Through the translation and comparative study of the enriching blood and nourishing vital essence(補陰血方劑) in "The Elimination & Supplement about the Famous Prescription Comments(刪補名醫方論)" of "The Golden Mirror of Medicine(醫宗金鑑)" with "The Famous Prescription Comments on Ancient and Modern Times(古今名醫方論)", we confirmed that about 50% of the sentences from "The Elimination & Supplement about the Famous Prescription Comments(刪補名醫方論)" were quoted in "The Famous Prescription Comments on Ancient and Modern Times(古今名醫方論)", and that many of the text were not quoted unchanged, but were revised and supplemented. In organization, the prescription with the fewer number of component drugs is given first, followed by that with more component drugs, and that with similar component drugs is explained subsequently to facilitate understanding. In the prescription notes, it is emphasized that when enriching blood, the invigorative method(補氣法) is very important and that cold or pungent herb should be very carefully used.

본 연구에서는 문서 안에 있는 문장들 중 비교 문장을 추출해낸다. 비교 문장이란 두 개 이상의 객체, 혹은 한 객체의 시간차, 공간차 등에 따른 변화를 비교하는 내용을 포함하는 문장을 말한다. 비교 문장을 구별해내는 작업은 많은 분야에서 응용될 수 있는데, 특히 객체(사람, 상품 등)에 대한 평가 면에서 매우 직접적이고 확실한 자료로 활용될 수 있다. 비교문장 추출을 위해 본 연구에서는 비교어휘를 이용한 추출 및 MEM(Maximum Entropy Model)을 적용하였으며, 뉴스기사(news article), 상품에 대한 고객리뷰(customer review) 등의 문서를 대상으로 실험하여 재현율 88.40%, 정확률 88.68%의 결과를 산출하였다.
