In this study, the effect of ground improvement was to be verified by granular compaction pile from the ground reclaimed with Fly Ash landfill site. The depth and strength parameters of the Fly ash layer was determined using the ground investigation and cone penetration test. And the STONE C program was used to predict the strength parameter, bearing capacity and settlement of the improved ground. As a result of the plate bearing test, the bearing capacity of improvement ground was higher than the design load and the settlement was smaller than the reference value. After the construction, the improvement effect by the cone penetration test was confirmed. The cone penetration resistance value($q_c$) increased by 250% to 500% and the effect was excellent.

The construction site for $\bigcirc\bigcirc$ transformer substation was located at a mountain valley. In order to prepare the site, the valley was first filled with crushed rock debris up to 63m. Since the main concern of this project is to minimize differential settlement of the foundation of transformer facilities, dynamic compaction was performed every 7m followed by reinforcement with EMP(Ez-Mud Piling). The EMP is one of bored piling methods, in which a hole is bored by means of air percussion and maintain by injecting Ez-Mud. Then a PHC pile (Pretensioned spun High strength Concrete pile) is embedded and finalized with a hammer. In this study, bearing capacities and long term behavior of a pile installed by EMP were investigated. To achieve these objectives, a series of tests such as static and dynamic load tests were conducted. In addition, a construction quality control standard was proposed based on the test results.
In order to obtain homogeneous and high quality products in powder compaction forging process, it is very important to control stress, strain, density and density distributions. Therefore, it is necessary to understand quantitatively the elasto-plastic deformation and densification behaviors of porous metals and metal powders. In this study, elasto-plastic finite element method using Lee-Kim's pressure dependent porous material yield function has been used for the analysis of three dimensional indenting process. The analysis predicts deformed geometry, stress, strain and density distribution and load. The calculated load is in good agreement with experimental one. The calculated results do not show axisymmetric distributions because of the edge effect. The core part which is in contact with the indentor and the outer diagonal edge part are in compressive stress states and the middle part is in tensile stress state. As a results, it can be concluded that three dimensional analysis is more realistic than axisymmetric assumption approach.

Model tests on free standing pile groups and piled footings with varying a pile spacing in two layered soils are carried out. The influence of pile cap on the behaviors of end bearing pile groups is analyzed by comparing the bearing behavior in piled footings with those in a single pile, a shallow footing(cap alone) and free standing pile groups. From the test results, it is found that the bearing characteristics of cap-soil-pile system are related with load levels and pile spacings. Before yield, the bearing resistance by cap is not fully mobilized, however, as the applied load increases, the bearing resistance of cap approaches to that of cap alone and settlement hardening occurs after yield due to the compaction caused by the contact pressure between cap and soil. By the cap-soil-pile interaction, shaft friction and point resistance of piles considerably increase with dependency of pile spacings. In two layered soil, the increasing effect of dilatancy in dense sandy soil adjacent to pile tips, increases the point resistance of pile.

Sand compaction pile (SCP) method is composed of compacted sand pile inserted into the soft clay deposit by displacement method. SCP-reinforced ground is composite soil which consists of the SCP and the surrounding soft soil. When a surcharge load is applied on composite ground, time-dependent behavior occurs in the soft soil due to consolidation according to radial flow toward SCP and stress transfer also takes place between the SCP and the soft soil. This paper presents the numerical results of cylindrical composite ground that was conducted to investigate consolidation characteristics and the stress transfer mechanism of SCP-reinforced composite ground. The results show that the consolidation of soft clay has a significant effect on the stress transfer mechanism and stress concentration ratio of composite ground

The characteristics of fretting wear are reviewed. Fretting damage depends on slip amplitude and classified into three groups: (1) an annular damage according to Mindlin's analysis at microslip region, (2) strong adhesive deformation without loose wear particles at the intermediate region, and (3) formation of fine oxide particles at the gross slip region. The critical slip amplitude of fretting is the boundary between (2) and (3). The boundary slip amplitude depends on normal load. The wear rate increases and saturates with increasing slip amplitude. But it is constant by considering the critical amplitude. The role of oxide particles are discussed. Three different actions are noted: accelerating wear, preventing wear and insignificant effect. The oxide shows two opposing effect depends on normal load and slip amplitude. This is related to the removal rate from the interface (abrasive action) and compaction rate at the interface to form a protective layer. The effect of oxidation is significant to determine the wear and friction. The diffusion of oxygen is restricted at the small amplitude. As a result, crack formation at the boundary is a predominant damage, related to fretting fatigue damage.
There is a possibility of poor-state concrete filling condition due to segregation and interlocking of aggregate and paste when a high performance concrete is used at reinforced concrete structure without compaction. This study was conducted to evaluate the flexural behavior of high performance concrete beams with design parameters such as c, t and different concrete filling conditions. Different concrete filling conditions were intentionally made such that the first type specimen was soundly cast to obtain the perfect concrete filling condition. Second type was cast in such a way that up to the longitudinal tensile reinforcement from the top, good concrete was filled while poor concrete was poured for the bottom part to simulate the poor strength, workability and unsatisfactory compaction. Third type was cast in such a was that up to the neutral axis of the beam section from the top, good concrete was filled while so did for the bottom part as the second type. The test results were analyzed in terms of load-displacement response, failure pattern, crack width and crack spacing. The test results indicate that have no effect of concrete filling conditions on the yielding strength of structures. But, have a grate influence on the stiffness and ductility of structures.
SCP(Sand Compaction Pile) method that forms a composite ground by driving compacted sand piles into the soft ground. This method is one of the soil improvement techniques for reinforcing and strengthening soft ground deposits. This thesis describes the investigation on the behavior of soft ground reinforced with SCP by low improvement ratio. Direct shear test and consolidation test carried out to verified behavior of composite ground reinforced with SCP. Test results were discussed with reference to the amount of consolidation settlement, variation of shear resistance with area replacement ratio and effect of the stress concentration. And, laboratory model loading test carried out to verified the effect of the location and failure mode of reinforced embankment. Residual shear strength varies with the area replacement and constrict load in the low replacement ratio. Calculated stress concentration ratio overestimate than proposed valve by experimental, theoretical and analytical method. As regards the location, improving right below of the top of the slope was more effective than below of the toe of the slope. This thesis carried out to obtain fundamental information of behavior of the composit ground. Hereafter, centrifuge test that reproduce stress state of the in-situ must be necessary through the further study about pile penetration, reinforce position and construct time.

Low liquid limit silt, widely distributed in the middle and down reaches of Yellow River, has the disadvantages of poor grading, less clay content and poor colloidal activity. It is very easy to cause vehicle jumping at the bridge-embankment transition section when the low liquid limit silt used as the backfill at the abutment back. In this paper, a series of laboratory tests were carried out to study the physical and mechanical properties of the low liquid limit silt used as back filling. Ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) was excited by active MgO and hydrated lime to solidify silt as abutment backfill. The optimum ratio of firming agent and the compaction and mechanical properties of reinforced soil were revealed through compaction test and unconfined compressive strength (UCS) test. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) test was used to study the pore characteristics and hydration products of reinforced soil. 6% hydrated lime and alkali activated slag were used to solidify silt and fill the model of subgrade respectively. The pavement settlement regulation and soil internal stress-strain regulation of subgrade with different materials under uniformly distributed load were studied by model experiment. The effect of alkali activated slag curing agent on curing silt was verified. The research results can provide technical support for highway construction in silt area of the Yellow River alluvial plain.

The objective of this paper is to assess the potential use of the geogauge and the light falling weight deflectometer (LFWD) and the soil impact hammer as quality control/quality assurance $Q_C/Q_A$ devices for compacted soil layers. A comprehensive field experimental program considering variation of number of compaction, water contents and thickness of compaction layer was conducted on compacted layers of gravel sand. The geogauge, LFWD, the soil impact hammer and static load test (PLT) as a reference test were performed for the compacted layers. The geogauge elastic modulus, $E_G$, the LFWD dynamic modulus, ELFWD, empirical soil stiffness, $K_{30}$, obtained from soil impact hammer and soil stiffness directly obtained from PLT, $K_{30}$, were correlated with increasing number of compaction. The results of this study show that the geogauge, LFWD and the soil impact hammer, which are very simple to test, can be used as substituting devices for static PLT which is a conventional quality control/quality assurance $Q_C/Q_A$ devices for compacted soil layers.
