Powder metallurgy process has many advantages such as hight efficientyof material, mass productivity and complex shape production with good mechanical properties. Among the powder forming processes, incremental forging allows the consolidation to be achieved with amaller force then those required by conventional forging. In particular the proces known as rotary forging is an unique and prodominant process known as rotary forging is an unique and prodominant process in which the working constraints approximate to those in normal closed die forging. This study is concerned with the powder compaction by rotary forging process. An experimental rotary forging press with 500kN load capacity has been developed, which is equippe dwith the rotational conicla die inclined to the central axis of the press at arbitrary angle. It is found that the highly densified P/M parts can be obtained by rotary forging process and the material properties are superior to those of the conventrional sintered parts. The detailedcomparision of the mechanical properties by rotary forging process with those by conventional process are given.

Municipal and sanitary landfills can pose environmental problems due to leachate, landfill gas md unstable geotechnical properties. Most governmental bodies delay the correction of landfill problems or landfill replacement until a crises stage is reached. The replacement of a landfill is often made difficult due to costly regulatory controls, public opposition to siting and the high cost of closure for the previous landfill unit. Solutions to extending landfill life and capacity Involve waste minimization by recycling, refuse compaction and waste-to-energy incineration. Incineration can reduce the volume of refuse by 50-95%. The largest installed bases of municipal waste Incinerators are located in Japan and the U.S. The volume of waste contained in a landfill can be estimated by load count tabulations, weight-and-volume measurements or a material balance analysis based on the trash profile of user categories. for an existing landfill, core samples may be collected and analyzed for use in a material balance analysis. Newly generated refuse contains approximately 50% of the heating value of coal. However, landfill properties vary significantly due to the waste profile of the contributors and biodegradation due to time and weathering. The volume of the Nanji-do landfill
In a view point of environment, the advanced electric contact material without environmental load element such as cadmium has to be developed. Extensive studies have been carried out on $Ag-SnO_2$ electric contact material as a substitute of Ag-CdO contact materials. In the present study, powder metallurgy including compaction and sintering is introduced to solve the incomplete oxidation problems in manufacturing process of $Ag-SnO_2$ electrical contact material. The $Ag-SnO_2$ contact material, fabricated in this study, was actually set in an electric switchgear of which working voltage is 462V and current is between 25 and 40A, for the purpose of testing its performance. As a result, it exceeded the existing Ag-CdO contact materials in terminal-temperature ascent and main contact resistance.
Soil stresses were measured beneath the centerline of one new 12.4R28 radial-ply tractor tire. The tire was operated with three inflation pressures(59㎪ 108㎪ and 157㎪) and a dynamic load of 14.2 kN and 20% slip. Soil stress state transducer(SST) measured the stresses in a hardpan soil profile. The depth of the SST was 250mm from soil surface. Analysis of the original soil stress data showed that the inflation pressure of tire did significantly affect the vertical stress. The major principal stresses calculated were more when the inflation pressure was 108㎪ than when it was 157㎪. The peak stresses of the major principal stresses presented more than those of the vertical stresses.
Impermeable surfaces such as transportation land uses including roads and parking lots accumulate high heavy metals and particulate matters concentration especially during dry season which worsens the river water quality and distort the water circulation system during rainfall events. Recently, the government has been promoting policies to install Low Impact Development (LID) facilities such as permeable pavements or grass blocks in parking lots or pavements. However, transition of asphalt-paved surfaces to permeable pavement generated asphalt wastes which are detrimental to the environment and has cost implications due to its removal and disposal. Therefore this study was conducted to provide a method of constructing a cost-effective permeable pavement to reduce waste generation and cost. In this study, comparative analysis of the water circulation capacity and economic efficiency of the traditional construction method and new method proposed in this study through the lab-scale experiment. The proposed method was to make holes in existing asphalt pavements, layout geotextile fabric and permeable base media such as sand before compaction. After compaction, layout grass blocks on the compacted base media then layout sand in between each grass blocks before compaction. Apparently, there was no significant difference between the traditional installation method of permeable pavement and the proposed method in this study considering surface runoff, infiltrated volume, stored volume, and rainfall-runoff delay time. The proposed method in this study generated 86% less wastes compared to the traditional installation method and has 70% cost reduction considering asphalt removal and disposal. The construction method proposed in this study yielded similar performance compared to the traditional installation method and water circulation effect, but was proven to be less complicated and economical.

The vertical soil pressure developed in the granular layer of asphalt pavement system is influenced by various factors, including the wheel load magnitude, the loading speed, and asphalt pavement temperature. This research observed the distribution of vertical soil pressure in pavement supporting layer by investigating measured data from soil pressure gage in the KHC Test Road. The existing specification of subbase and subgrade compaction was also evaluated with measured vertical pressure. The finite element analysis was conducted to verify the accuracy of results with measured data because it can maximize research capacity without significant field test. The test data was collected from A5, A7, A14, and A15 test sections at August, September, and November 2004 and August 2005. Those test sections and test data were selected because they had best quality. The size of influence area was evaluated and the vertical pressure variation was investigated with respect to load level, load speed, and pavement temperature. The lower speed, higher load level, and higher pavement temperature increased the vertical pressure and reduced the area of influence. The finite element result showed the similar trend of vertical pressure variation in comparison with measured data. The specification of compaction quality for subbase and subgrade is higher than the level of vertical pressure measured with truck load so that it should be lurker investigated.
The behavior of laterally cyclic loaded piles is affected by the magnitude and number of cycles of cyclic lateral loads as well as loading method (1-way or 2-way loading). In this study, calibration chamber tests were carried out to investigate the effects of loading method of cyclic lateral loads on the behavior of piles driven into sand. Results of the chamber tests show that the permanent lateral displacement of 1-way cyclic loaded piles is developed in the same direction as the first loading, whereas that of 2-way cyclic loaded piles is developed in the reverse direction of the first loading. 1-way cyclic lateral loads cause a decrease of the ultimate lateral load capacity of piles, and 2-way cyclic lateral loads cause an increase of the ultimate lateral load capacity of piles. The change of ultimate lateral load capacity with loading method of cyclic lateral loads increases with increasing number of cycles. It is also observed that the 1-way cyclic loads generate greater maximum bending moment than 2-way cyclic loads for piles in cyclic loading step and generates smaller maximum bending moment for piles in the ultimate state. It can be attributed to the difference in compaction degree of the soil around the piles with loading method of cyclic lateral loads. In addition, it is founded that 1-way and 2-way cyclic lateral loads cause a decrease in the maximum bending moment of piles in the ultimate state compared with that of piles subjected to only monotonic loads.
PURPOSES : A tack coat has been utilized to increase the bond performance between the surface layer and base course (intermediate course) at various road pavement sites. This is similarly true in other nations. Based on this connection, the objective of the present study is to evaluate the properties of hot mix asphalt (HMA) mixtures with an RSC-4 or BD-Coat and determine the application rate of the tack coat. METHODS : The HMA specimens were manufactured using superpave gyratory compaction. The HMA mixtures were composed of a 5-cm thick surface layer and a 10-cm thick base course. An impact hammer resonance test (IHRT) and a static load shear test were conducted to evaluate the performance of the HMA mixtures with a tack coat. From these tests, the dynamic moduli related to the high-frequency resistance and interlayer shear strength (ISS) of HMA could be obtained. RESULTS : The results of the dynamic moduli of HMA are discussed based on the resonance frequency (RF). To check the accuracy of the IHRT, we conducted a coherence analysis. A direct shear test using the application of a static load test was carried out to evaluate the interlayer shear strength (ISS) of HMA. CONCLUSIONS : The maximum ISS was demonstrated at an RSC-4 application rate of 462 gsm, and the maximum dynamic modulus was demonstrated at an RSC-4 application rate of 306 gsm. By averaging the results of the ISS, the maximum ISS values were obtained when a BD-Coat application rate of 602 gsm was applied.
When calculating bearing capacity and settlement of actual foundation from plate test result fur design and construction of shallow foundation, scale effect should be considered. But, adequate guide and test result of scale effect were not prepared yet in Korea. So, to analyze the relations of bearing capacity and settlement as the difference of loading plate sizes, model test and field loading test were performed with different loading plate on weathered-granite layer. Model tests were conducted with water content, compaction number, saturated unit weight and plate size(Dl5, 25cm) in soil-box$(2,000\times 2,000\times 1,000mm)$ formed soil layer. Field loading tests were carried out with diameters of loading plate$(D15, 25, 30, 40, 75\times 75, 140\times 210cm)$ on the same soil condition. Finally, we presented the prediction formula of bearing and settlement for computating scale offset in design of shallow foundation through result analysis of load test and numerical simulation on weathered soil and rock.
Current design methods for reinforced earth structures take no account of the magnitude of the strains induced in the tensile members as these are invariably manufactured from high modulus materials, such as steel, where straits are unlikely to be significant. With fabrics, however, large strains may frequently be induced and it is important to determine these to enable the stability of the structure to be assessed. In the present paper internal design method of analysis relating to the use of fabric reinforcements in reinforced earth structures for both stress and strain considerations is presented. For the internal stability analysis against rupture and pullout of the fabric reinforcements, a strain compatibility analysis procedure that considers the effects of reinforcement stiffness, relative movement between the soil and reinforcements, and compaction-induced stresses as studied by Ehrlich 8l Mitchell is used. I Bowever, the soil-reinforcement interaction is modeled by relating nonlinear elastic soil behavior to nonlinear response of the reinforcement. The soil constitutive model used is a modified vertsion of the hyperbolic soil model and compaction stress model proposed by Duncan et at., and iterative step-loading approach is used to take nonlinear soil behavior into consideration. The effects of seepage pressures are also dealt with in the proposed method of analy For purposes of assessing the strain behavior oi the fabric reinforcements, nonlinear model of hyperbolic form describing the load-extension relation of fabrics is employed. A procedure for specifying the strength characteristics of paraweb polyester fibre multicord, needle punched non-woven geotHxtile and knitted polyester geogrid is also described which may provide a more convenient procedure for incorporating the fablic properties into the prediction of fabric deformations. An attempt to define improvement in bond-linkage at the interconnecting nodes of the fabric reinforced earth stracture due to the confining stress is further made. The proposed method of analysis has been applied to estimate the maximum tensions, deformations and strains of the fabric reinforcements. The results are then compared with those of finite element analysis and experimental tests, and show in general good agreements indicating the effectiveness of the proposed method of analysis. Analytical parametric studies are also carried out to investigate the effects of relative soil-fabric reinforcement stiffness, locked-in stresses, compaction load and seepage pressures on the magnitude and variation of the fabric deformations.
