  • Nuclear marine propulsion has been emerging as a next generation carbon-free power source, for which proper passive residual heat removal systems (PRHRSs) are needed for long-term safety. In particular, the characteristics of unlimited operation time and compact design are crucial in maritime applications due to the difficulties of safety aids and limited space. Accordingly, a compact and long-term-operable PRHRS has been proposed with the key design concept of using both air cooling and seawater cooling in tandem. To confirm its feasibility, this study conducted system design and a transient analysis in an accident scenario. Design results indicate that seawater cooling can considerably reduce the overall system size, and thus the compact and long-term-operable PRHRS can be realized. Regarding the transient analysis, the Multi-dimensional Analysis of Reactor Safety (MARS-KS) code was used to analyze the system behavior under a station blackout condition. Results show that the proposed design can satisfy the design requirements with a sufficient margin: the coolant temperature reached the safe shutdown condition within 36 h, and the maximum cooling rate did not exceed 40 ℃/h. Lastly, it was assessed that both air cooling and seawater cooling are necessary for achieving long-term operation and compact design.

  • Symmetric interpolating refinable function vectors with compact support are of interest in several applications such as signal processing, image processing and computer graphics. It is known in [13] that orthogonal interpolating refinable function vectors can not be symmetric for multiplicity r = 2 and dilation d = 2. In this paper, we shall investigate symmetric interpolating refinable function vectors with compact support for multiplicity r = 2 and dilation d = 2 by omitting orthogonality. To illustrate our theorems and results in this paper, we shall also present some examples of symmetric interpolating refinable function vectors with compact support and high order of sum rules.

  • The $L^p-L^q$ mapping properties of convolution operators with measures supported on curves in $\mathbb{R}^3$ have been studied by many authors. Oberlin provided examples of nondegenerate compact space curves whose arclength measures enjoy $L^p$-improving properties. This was later extended by Pan who showed that such properties hold for all nondegenerate compact space curves. In this paper, we will prove that the operator norm of the convolution operator with the arclength measure supported on a nondegenerate compact space curve depends only on certain quantities of the underlying curve.

  • In this work, we characterize some matrix classes concerning the Binomial sequence spaces br,s and br,sp, where 1 ≤ p < ∞. Moreover, by using the notion of Hausdorff measure of noncompactness, we characterize the class of compact matrix operators from br,s0, br,sc and br,s into c0, c and ℓ, respectively.

  • Let X be a p-compace groyp, Y -> X bd a p-compact-subgroup of X and G -> X be a p-compact toral subgroup of X with $(X/Y)^{hG} \neq 0$. In this paper we show that the homotopy fixed point set of the homotopy fibre $(X/Y)^{hG}$ is $F_p$-finite.

  • In this paper, we consider approximation of eigenelements of a two dimensional compact integral operator with a smooth kernel by discrete collocation and iterated discrete collocation methods. By choosing numerical quadrature appropriately, we obtain convergence rates for gap between the spectral subspaces, and also we obtain superconvergence rates for eigenvalues and iterated eigenvectors. We then apply Richardson extrapolation to obtain further improved error bounds for the eigenvalues. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate theoretical estimates.

  • The compact transformation group has been developed with lots of properties. Many properties which are satisfied on G-space for compact group G do not hold for noncompact case. To recover some theory on spaces with noncompact group action we give some restriction on G-spaces. Hence we introduced Cartan G-spaces and proper G-spaces for our goal and we prove some properties on these G-spaces with noncompact G.

  • We show that for an M-action on a compact Hausdorff uniform space, if it has at least two disjoint compact invariant subsets, then it is thickly syndetically sensitive. Additionally, we point out that for a P-M-action of a discrete abelian group on a compact Hausdorff uniform space, the multi-sensitivity is equivalent to both thick sensitivity and thickly syndetic sensitivity.

  • A closed subspace J of a Banach space X is called an M-ideal in X if the annihilator $J^\perp$ of J is an L-summand of $X^*$. That is, there exists a closed subspace J' of $X^*$ such that $X^* = J^\perp \oplus J'$ and $\left\$\mid$ p + q \right\$\mid$ = \left\$\mid$ p \right\$\mid$ + \left\$\mid$ q \right\$\mid$$ wherever $p \in J^\perp and q \in J'$.
