The primary objective of the current work is to predict speed performance of the medium patrol boat over $F_N=0.5$ employing experimental materials based on the CFD before model tests. In other words, the predicted brake powers according to ship speeds are assessed satisfying the main engine capacity. The subject ships are selected the two different stern hull forms. The flow computation are conducted considering free surface and dynamic trim using a commercial CFD code(STAR-CCM+). The resistances of the bare-hull are obtained from CFD. Wave patterns, pressures and limiting streamlines on the hull and velocity distribution in the propeller plane for the two hull forms are compared using CFD. The effective powers of the object ships are assessed based on CFD. Resistance increase according to the attached appendages and quasi-propulsive efficiency are employed the experimental datas. Speed performance prediction method concerning high speed vessels like a medium patrol boat is developed employing CFD and experimental data.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the installed performance of the PW206C turbo shaft engine used in the development of the smart UAV(Unmanned Ariel Vehicle) by KARI(Korean Aerospace Research Institute). It mainly aims to investigate performance behavior at installed conditions using both inlet and exhaust losses generated by CFD analysis of the ducts. The ways employed to be able to analyze the performance extensively were mainly rallied out by performing design point analysis of the engine where the performance simulation results from the commercial program 'GASTURB 9' used for simulation were used as inlet boundary condition for the ducts in CFD program The use of CFD tool involve modeling of the ducts to conform with the stipulated shape and sizes as defined by KARI with a grid density that allows reasonable flow characteristics applicable to aircraft components. Respective values of Shaft horse power obtained by varying flight Mach number, Gas generator RPM and Altitude considering several losses inclusive of those estimated by use of CFD tool were then plotted at three conditions with the ECS-OFF, ECS-MAX and at un-installed condition. Reasonable results were obtained as a result of using computational fluid dynamics that can hence be justified as an alternative tool for use in future flow analysis of engine and components.
Estimations of wind flow over terrain are often needed for applications such as pollutant dispersion, transport safety or wind farm location. Whilst field studies offer very detailed information regarding the wind potential over a small region, the cost of instrumenting a natural fetch alone is prohibitive. Wind tunnels offer one alternative although wind tunnel simulations can suffer from scale effects and high costs as well. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) offers a second alternative which is increasingly seen as a viable one by wind engineers. There are two issues associated with CFD however, that of accuracy of the predictions and set-up and simulation times. This paper aims to address the two issues by demonstrating, by way of an investigation of wind potential for the Askervein Hill, that a good level of accuracy can be obtained with CFD (10% for the speed up ratio) and that it is possible to automate the simulations in order to compute a full wind rose efficiently. The paper shows how a combination of script and session files can be written to drive and automate CFD simulations based on commercial software. It proposes a general methodology for the automation of CFD applied to the computation of wind flow over a region of interest.
For developing high performance fuel cell, peripheral devices and key components have to be studied in priority. In this study, centrifugal pump was studied for heat recovery. For PEM fuel cell system, a four-impeller centrifugal pump was designed, tested and compared with result of commercial product (IWAKI). In addition, effects of number of impeller were analyzed by CFD. The experiment and analysis were progressed in the same conditions. The results showed the quantitative difference under 30% between the numerical and the experimental pressure difference and mass flow rate.
Most of fluid systems, such as P&ID in ships, power plants, and chemical plants, consist of various components. The components such as bends, tees, sudden-expansions, sudden-contractions, and orifices contribute to overall pressure loss of the system. The local pressure losses across such components are determined using a pressure loss coefficient, k-factor, in lumped parameter models. In many engineering problems Idelchik's k-factor models have been used to estimate them. The present work compares the k-factor based on CFD calculation against Idelchik's model in order to confirm whether a commercial CFD package can be used for pressure loss coefficient estimation of complex geometries. The results show that RSM is the best appropriate for evaluating pressure loss coefficient. Commercial CFD package can be used as a tool evaluating k-factor even though the accuracy is influenced by a turbulence model.

In this paper, a 1MW HAWT(FIL-1000) rotor blade has been designed by BEMT(Blade Element Momentum Theory) with Prandtl's tip loss. Also, a 3-D flow and performance analysis on the FIL-1000 rotor blade has been carried out by using the 3-D Navier-Stokes commercial solver (CFX-5.7) to provide more efficient design techniques to the large-scale HAWT engineers. The rated power and itsapproaching wind velocity at design point (TSR=7.5) are 1MW and 9.99m/s respectively. The rotor diameter is 54.5m and the rotating speed is 26.28rpm. Airfoils such as FFA W-301, DU91-W-250, DU93-W-210, NACA 63418, NACA 63415 consist of the rotor blade from hub to tip. Recent CFX version, 5.7 was adopted to simulate 3-D flow field and to analyze the performance characteristics of the rotor blade. Entire mesh node number is about 730,000 and it is generated by ICEM-CFD to achieve better mesh quality The predicted maximum power occurringat the design tip speed ratio is 931.45kW. Approaching to the root, the inflow angle becomes large, which causesthe blade to be stalled in the region. Therefore, k-$\omega$ SST turbulence model was used to predict the quantitative flow information more accurately. Application of commercial CFD code to optimum blade design and performance analysis was proved to be more effective environment to HAWT blade designers.
The objective of this study is to investigate aerodynamic characteristics of a Horizontal-axis wind turbines(HAWT), using CFD method with a commercial code STAR-CCM+ version 3.06. To verify the reliability of the computations, the CFD results are compared with the experimental ones of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory(NREL) Phase Ⅵ HAWT. For the comparison and examination of aerodynamic characteristics, the existent shape with a predesigned twist angle was replaced by the one with one-dimensional linear twist angle. In this study, the pressure contour and stream line around the blade were analyzed as main focus. Through this study the more efficient shape of airfoil is suggested with consideration of manufacturing cost.

Post swirl stator is an energy saving device to recover rotational energy of the propeller. To optimize the performance of post swirl stator in container vessels, computational fluid dynamics using body force method was introduced. A commercial code Fluent was used in conjunction with body force distributed on the surface of actuator disk which is located in the propeller plane to optimize pitch angle of the post swirl stator blade. This study showed that CFD is an important tool to simulate flow behind ship with propeller, rudder and post swirl stator.

The calculation of the wind field for resource assessment is done by using CFD Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes simulations performed with the commercial software WindSim. A new interface has been created to use mesoscale simulation data from a meteorological model as driving data for the simulations. This method makes it necessary to take into account thermal effects on the wind field to exploit the full potential of this method. The procedure for considering thermal effects in CFD wind field simulations as well as the impact of thermal effects on the wind field simulations is presented. Simulations for non-neutral atmospheric conditions with the developed method are consistent with expected behavior and show an improvement of simulation results compared with observations.

In order to suggest the methodology for achieving anti-vortex within multi pump intake well, the field test and CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation were conducted. The filed test were carried out for domestic W_multi pump intake well according to usual operation condition through the naked observation. From the results, operating #4, #5, #8 and 9# pumps, the vortex and swirl occurred above #4 and #9 intake pipe within two wells. For qualitative analysis, a commercial CFD code, using sump model, was used to predict the vortex generation within the selected pump intake facility accurately. The analysed results by CFD show that the vortex structure and location are in accordance with the results of the field test.
