  • This paper presents characteristics of combustion and exhaust gas properties according to variation of the combustion chamber for economy and emissions standards. In order to use combustion and exhaust gas properties data, it is necessary to build some data base, which use cylinder pressure sensor and emission tester. A feasibility and necessity of combustion pressure based cylinder spark timing control has been examined. So, this was obtained the coefficient of variation(COV) and the specific fuel consumption(sfc). Using the results of the test, the effects of the variable combustion chamber can be improved combustion stability and be reduced exhaust emission.

  • In order to evaluate the fire and explosion involved and to ensure the safe and optimized operation of chemical processes, it is necessary to know combustion properties. Explosion limit is one of the major combustion properties used to determine the fire and explosion hazards of the flammable substances. In this study, the lower explosion and upper explosion limits of esters were predicted by using the heat of combustion. The values calculated by the proposed equations agreed with literature data within a few percent. From the given results, using the proposed methodology, it is possible to predict the explosion limits of the other ester flammable substances.

  • There arc two methods to evaluate the combustion product, that is analysis method and measurement method. Properties of the combustion products, constituents, and quanties, can be used to calculate boiler efficiency and beat losses. Using combustion evaluation methods combustion calculation were performed at certain condition and analyze the results. In this paper by comparing the results between two methods, deviation, correction and possibility of site application were confirmed

  • The diversification of import districts of natural gas is trying to prepare an increase in the demand and price. The interchangeability of natural gases should be examined prior to supply to gas appliances, although compositional differences among natural gases are not large. The object of this study is to investigate numerically the thermodynamic and transport properties as well as information on combustion of 6 natural gases. Comparing the properties of BOG1 with those of standard gas, the maximum differences of heating value, Wobbe index, air-fuel ratio, and specific heat are 10%, 4%, 10% and 5.54%, respectively. That is, the BOG1 is required careful application. However, all gases except for BOG1 show the similar properties with standard gas. Finally, the combustion information such as flame temperature and burning velocity are examined. These results will provide the useful information related to the interchangeability of various natural gases in practical combustion appliances.

  • We intended to investigate combustion properties of rice bran dust. Combustion properties of h rice bran dust according to size distribution and amount were measured as temperature v variation with time using spontaneous ignition apparatus. Moreover, combustion properties w with blowing or without blowing condition were checked in order to investigate combustion p properties in spontaneous ignition apparatus according to flow condition of air. A As the mass and size of rice bran dust was increased, i띠ti외 smoldering temperature was l lowered. All of combustion forms were smoldering combustion. Initial smold얹ing temperature w was slightly lower with blowing condition than without blowing condition in spontaneous i ignition apparatus, which condition made heating value high.

  • The present study aims to investigate quantitatively the hydrodynamic effect on combustion process of pulverized coal particles in large scale combustion chamber using computational analysis, with a general purpose computational fluid dynamics code. Burner hydrodynamics include swirl and turbulence intensity from the burner. To understand the phenomena which are difficult to observe how flow has influence on the combustion process, comparative effect of combustion related coal properties and hydrodynamics is evaluated on flame formation and development in burner flames.

  • An idea to suppress the self-excited combustion oscillation was applied to the flames. The characteristics of unsteady combustion were examined and the unsteady combustion was driven by forced pulsating mixture supply that can modulate its amplitude and frequency. The self-excited combustion oscillation having weaker flow velocity fluctuation intensity than that of the forced pulsating supply can be suppressed by this method. The effects of the forced pulsation amplitude and frequency on controlling self-excited combustion oscillations were also investigated comparing with the steady mixture supply. The unsteady combustion used in this experiment plays an important role in controlling self-excited combustion oscillation. Symptoms of self-excited combustion oscillation were also studied in order to predict the onset of combustion oscillation before it proceeded to a catastrophic failure For the purpose, the unique measures to observe the onset of self-excited combustion oscillations based on the careful statistics of fluctuating properties in flames, such as pressure or emission of OH radicals, have been proposed.

  • This paper investigated the combustion properties of the Pinus rigida, Castanea sativa, and Zelkova serrata which are grown in Korea using the cone calorimeter. The heat release rate and smoke production for these species were measured. With respect to an increase of retardant properties attributed to char formation, Zelkova serrata showed good properties compared with that of Pinus rigida and Castanea sativa. The Castanea sativa has high $CO_{peak}$ Yield and high $CO/CO_2$ Yield compared with that of Pinus rigida and Zelkova serrata.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted in order to figure out the multiple fire effects on the combustion efficiency and fuel properties of the solid fuel ramjet. Pure HTPB and metallized $B_4$C/HTPB fuel were studied. Fuel property effects were analyzed by using differential scanning calorimetry, The thermal or mechanical properties of the fuel grain were not affected and the combustion efficiency was a little increased.
