  • Aim: New technologies for the early detection of pancreatic cancer (PC) are urgently needed. The aim of the present study was to screen for the potential protein biomarkers in serum using proteomic fingerprint technology. Methods: Magnetic beads combined with surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization (SELDI) TOF MS were used to profile and compare the protein spectra of serum samples from 85 patients with pancreatic cancer, 50 patients with acute-on-chronic pancreatitis and 98 healthy blood donors. Proteomic patterns associated with pancreatic cancer were identified with Biomarker Patterns Software. Results: A total of 37 differential m/z peaks were identified that were related to PC (P < 0.01). A tree model of biomarkers was constructed with the software based on the three biomarkers (7762 Da, 8560 Da, 11654 Da), this showing excellent separation between pancreatic cancer and non-cancer., with a sensitivity of 93.3% and a specificity of 95.6%. Blind test data showed a sensitivity of 88% and a specificity of 91.4%. Conclusions: The results suggested that serum biomarkers for pancreatic cancer can be detected using SELDI-TOF-MS combined with magnetic beads. Application of combined biomarkers may provide a powerful and reliable diagnostic method for pancreatic cancer with a high sensitivity and specificity.

  • Our study found that the types and forms of patterns of Japan, although they are similar to those of Korea and China, hold their own distinctive aesthetic awareness. They were made so, because the Japanese had not simply copied the patterns from other countries and also had changed them in various ways for ages. Especially, geometric patterns were widely used on some types of kimono costumes and belts in Edo period. One of the most widely used patterns was called Suk Chup Mun, and Tatewaku pattern was another. The San Gil Mun and Chil Bo Mun pattern was least used. In the patterns combination, that of animal and plant patterns was general. A single geometric pattern was not used, but if any, it was in Sima patterns and latticed patterns. On the other hand, the combination of geometric and plant patterns was more frequently used as composite patterns than any other pattern, such as geometric pattern with home tools, or one with animal patterns or nature patterns. The geometric patterns that had appeared in Edo period were combined in paintings along with animal and home tools patterns, so it could become a representative pattern of the age.

  • In this paper, the recognition method of Hangout patterns with the partial separation for the subpatterns is proposed. First, Hangout patterns are formalized into six formal patterns and their surface structures are discriminated. Second, two to four subpatterns from one form pattern are separated by the new algorithm combined with Index mark and Window. Hangout patterns are recognized with only frontiers of the tree by defining the regular U-tree grammar for the separated subpatterns. Compared with the previous tree grammar , this grammar reduces the production rules to 1/3 and simplifies automaton processing and has more flexiblity. By the simulation result for 1,600 characters of Hangeul patterns, separation rate of subpatterns (24 or 44) is obtained 99.1% and recognition rate is obtained 100 %.

  • The design methods using patterns have been used in various design fields. Both utility and results have also developed a lot, so that patterns occupy an essential parts in designs. Patterns are often used in various techniques in designing ornaments. However, both time and excessive effort concentrations restricted ornaments designs due to the nature of the craft production techniques by repeated patterns. Therefore, in this study, the traditional craft methods are combined by using computer programs in the applications, repetitions, arrangements of patterns for the manufacturing of ornaments.

  • Treasures patterns are simplified designs of vessels used in everyday life, which were symbols of luck. Treasures patterns on textiles are largely assorted into four groups: eight auspicious patterns of Buddhism, eight immortal patterns of Taoism, seven treasures patterns of King Chakravarti in the Buddhist Scriptures and normal treasures patterns. Among them normal treasures patterns are most commonly used. Records in the Joseon documents show these patterns as being composed of seven treasures patterns or eight treasures patterns. But observation of the actual relics show that these patterns ranged from four to ten patterns. Korean traditional textiles treasures patterns began to appear in Korea on the relics of the last of Goryeo period. They were used as sub-patterns among main patterns of dynamically rising cloud patterns with five heads. Treasures patterns in the early Joseon period were commonly used as sub-patterns, and cloud and treasures pattern were prime examples of this. In the 16th century, lotus vine pattern, small flower vine pattern, or small flower pattern were often used as main patterns and treasures patterns were regularly used as sub-patterns. The robe of the Great Monk of Seo San was unique, in that both main and sub patterns consisted of the treasures patterns. From the 17th century, treasures patterns began to be used as main patterns. For example, a relic with eight alternatively arranged treasures patterns were found. Though there were still some cases where the patterns were used as sub-patterns, they begin to appear bigger than the previous period and became similar to main patterns in size. In the 18th and 19th centuries, there were various cases where treasures patterns were combined with flowers, fruits, animals, and letter patterns and used as main patterns. And there are many different methods of representing and developing the patterns.

  • For the ferromagnetic combined samples, results of x-ray diffraction patterns showed no evidence of reaction between the $La_{0.67}Ca_{0.33}MnO_3, La_{0.67}Sr_{0.33}MnO_3$ and $CoFe_2O_4$. For the amount of $CoFe_2O_4$ increased, the Curie temperature of combined samples showed no appreciable change, whereas a metal-semiconductor transition temperature rapidly decreased. For the $La_{0.67}Sr_{0.33}MnO_3$ and 20 wt % $CoFe_2O_4$ combined sample, the metal-semiconductor transition temperature was decreased to 160 K compared with the $La_{0.67}Sr_{0.33}MnO_3$ with 192 K.

  • This study was designed 1) to explore the adult attachment factors, 2) to investigated the individual attachment styles and combined attachment patterns for 362 wives and husbands,3) and to know the effects of the relation to marital adjustment. The inventories were KAAQ(Korean Adult Attachment Questionnare), KMAQ(Korean Marital Adjustment Questionnare), and the Socio-demographic questionnaires. The data analysis methods were frequencies, percentiles, Cronbach'${\alpha}$, Factor Analysis, and F-test. The resets were as follows; 1. 3 factors were found in adult attachment. 2. 3 styles of adult attachment(secure, anxious/ambicalent, avoidant) were found. Secure style was most frequent. Also for 9 combined attachment patters, secure pattern was found the most frequent one. 3. Marital adjustment was highest with secure attachment style, anxious/ambivalent was next , and avoidant was the lowest. About combined attachment patterns, a pair of secure style showed the highest marital adjustment, and a pair of avoidant was the lowest.

  • In this paper, the design for the shaped offset cassegrain antenna system combined with corrugated feed horn is presented. First, spherical-mode wave theory is applied to the corrugated conical horn and its radiation patterns are investigated. Using the radiation patterns, design data of the corrugated conical horn are obtained by efficiency investigation of horn antenna. When the investigation is completed, the flare angle and length of the corrugated conical horn is determined. Next, the main and sub-reflector is designed using Snellis law and the conservation principle of energy. Then the uniform direction and energy density of the traveling wave at the aperture of the main-reflector is obtained. The maximum size of the main-reflector is determined by investigation of the illumination and spillover efficiency. Finally, the curvature of the main-reflector is modified to satisfy the condition of the uniform phase. From the calculated efficiencies, the designed site of the main-reflector and sub-reflector, system gain of the shaped offset cassegrain antenna has been obtained 40.5dB in Ka-band frequency. It has better characteristics than the result of SABOR with 39dB gain.

  • Silicon micro-patterns were fabricated on Si (100) wafers using photolithography and DRIE (Deep Reactive Ion Etching) fabrication techniques. The patterned shapes included micro-pillars and micro-channels. After the fabrication of the patterns, the patterned surfaces were chemically modified by coating Z-DOL (perfluoropolyether, PFPE) thin films. The surfaces were then evaluated for their micro-friction behavior in comparison with those of bare Si (100) flat, Z-DOL coated Si (100) flat and uncoated Si patterns. Experimental results showed that the chemically treated (Z-DOL coated) patterned surfaces exhibited the lowest values of coefficient of friction when compared to the rest of the test materials. The results indicate that a combination of both the topographical and chemical modification is very effective in reducing the friction property. Combined surface treatments such as these could be useful for tribological applications in miniaturized devices such as Micro/Nano-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS/NEMS).
