In this study, the bearing pressure distribution and design method of rectangular steel tubular column base plates under concentric loading were investigated. In general, the size and thickness of the baseplate are determined with the assumption that the bearing pressure of the column baseplate is uniformly distributed. When the column is loaded lightly, however, the size of the baseplate becomes smaller, the thickness becomes thinner and the bearing pressure of the baseplate is not distributed evenly. In this study, the distribution of the bearing pressure was investigated using the experimental and analytical methods. Four test specimens of the rectangular steel column baseplate were fabricated and tested. The analysis of the specimens was done using the finite element analysis program ANSYS. The result was that it was appropriate to use the effective width method to design the lightly loaded column baseplate, because the bearing pressure was not distributed evenly and was only concentrated under the column section.
Recently, as the height of building is getting higher, the applications of CFST column for high-rise buildings have been increased. In structural system of high-rise building, The RC core and exterior concrete-filled tubular (CFST) column-beam pinned connection is one of the structural systems that support lateral load. If this structural system is used, due to the minimal CFST column thickness compared to that of the CFST column width, the local moment occurred by the eccentric distance between the column flange surface from shear bolts joints degrades the shear strength of the CFST column-beam pinned connections. This study performed a finite element analysis to investigate the shear strength under eccentric moment of the CFST column-beam pinned connections. The column's width and thickness were used as variables for the analysis. To guarantee the reliability of the finite element analysis, an actual-size specimens were fabricated and tested. The yield line theory was used to formulate an shear strength formula for the CFT column-beam pinned connection. the shear strength formula was suggested through comparison on the results of FEM analysis, test and yield lime theory, the shear strength formula was suggested.

The gas hold-up has a strong relationship with the size distribution and rising velocities of bubbles in a bubble column. Therefore, many previous researchers have studied on the hydrodynamics focusing on the bubble size variation in bubble column. In this study, the bubble behavior was influenced by partitioning porous plates installed at a certain height in a trayed bubble column. The gas hold-up was increased in non-sparging region (H/D > 5) as well as sparging region. We identified the effect of the partitioning porous plate using three trayed bubble columns with different reactor geometries. Furthermore, the bubble break-up frequency and size distribution were observed before and after individual bubbles penetrated through the plate. The arrangement of the plates was also investigated using a 0.15-m-in-diameter bubble column. Based on the result, we applied this design concept to a 0.36-m-in-diameter, 22 m tall trayed bubble column and identified the effect of the partitioning porous plate on the gas hold-up increase.
Bubble size in froth flotation has long been recognized as a key factor which affects the bubble residence time, the bubble surface area flux (Sb) and the carrying rate (Cr). This paper presents method of bubble size measurement, relationship between operating variables and gas dispersion properties in flotation column. Using high speed camera and image analysis system, bubble size has been directly measured as a function of operating parameters (e.g., superficial gas rate (Jg), superficial wash water rate (Jw), frother concentration) in flotation column. Relationship compared to measured and estimated bubble size was obtained within error ranges of ±15~20% and mean bubble size was 0.718mm. From this system the empirical relationship to control the bubble size and distribution has been developed under operating conditions such as Jg of 0.65~1.3cm/s, Jw of 0.13~0.52cm/s and frother concentration of 60~200ppm. Surface tension and bubble size decreased as frother concentration increased. It seemed that critical coalescence concentration (CCC) of bubbles was 200ppm so that surface tension was the lowest (49.24mN/m) at frother concentration of 200ppm. Bubble size tend to increase when superficial gas rate (Jg) decreases and superficial wash water rate Jw and frother concentration increase. Gas holdup is proportional to superficial gas rate as well as frother concentration and superficial wash water rate (at the fixed superficial gas rate).
Cyclic loading tests for beam-to-column weak-axis connections were performed to investigate the seismic performance. In this study, the connections were developed to improve the constructability on the basis of investigation for existing small-size steel structures. The primary test parameter is the number of high-tension bolts which are used to connect steel beam and column using exterior and interior flange plates. Test results showed that the number of bolts had a significant effect on the cyclic behavior of beam-column weak-axis connections. From the analysis of test results, it is concluded that more than four bolts in the connections can satisfy the requirements of semi-rigid connection presented in current design codes. All of specimens showed the bearing failure around bolt holes and fracture at the beam flange. However, when the web height and the flange width is relatively small, the number of the bolts used in the connections might be limited. Thus, the additional research in this area is needed.
This experiment was conducted to find out the minimum size of pores through that Zeolite particles moved vertically out with percolated solution in the sand column and to estimate whether they were lost through the pores in the field sandy soil. The results were as follows. 1. The amount of Zeolite loss through sand columns was increased in the order of the columns filled with $2{\sim}1>1{\sim}0.5>0.5>0.25mm$ sand particles. 2. The Zeolite particles lost through columns filled with $1{\sim}0.5$ and $0.5{\sim}0.25mm$ sand were clay fraction. 3. The pore sire that clay fraction of Zeolite mineral could migrate through was determined to be above $150{\mu}m$ and Jangchon subsoil was presumed to have possibility of Zeolite loss in consideration of its pore size distribution. 4. The suitable particle size of Zeolite for application in sandy soil was presumed to be above $2{\mu}m$.

The purpose of this study is to analyze size and proportion of plan and section, and derive characteristics by types of worship-space in central hall of buddhist temple. This study covers 45 buddhist temples as designated national treasure and treasure. Types of central hall of buddhist temple are 'Columnless Type', 'Inner Column Type', and 'Colonnade Type'. The results are as follows. Firstly, in the proportion of width and length, 'Columnless Type' is mostly represented with 1:0.73, 'Inner Column Type' with 1:0.54 and seems to be widening for the other types, and 'Colonnade Type' is same proportion with 'Columnless Type'. Secondly, in the proportion of width and height, 'Columnless Type' is 1:0.61 and sizes of worship-space of this type are different but the proportion is same. In the 'Inner Column Type', worship-space is enlarged because a buddhist altar is hustled into the rear. Thirdly, in the proportion of length and height, all types are represented with similar proportion as 1:1. Finally, proportion of the volume of worship-space in 'Columnless Type' is 1(width):0.74(length):0.60(height). The case of 'Inner Column Type' is 1:0.57:0.57 and length of worship-space is shortened, so characteristics of horizontality is emphasized. The space of same size with the proportion of 'Columnless Type' is situated in the inside of worship-space in 'Colonnade Type'.

For experimental study on the effect of particle size distribution on the liquefaction resistance strength, particle size distribution curves of the dredged soil were investigated. In this process, four mean particle sizes and three uniformity coefficients were defined representatively and twelve representative particle size distribution curves which have different mean particle size and uniformity coefficient, were defined and manufactured by using the real dredged river soil. Cyclic triaxial tests and resonant column tests were carried out to analyze the effect of mean particle size and uniformity coefficient on the liquefaction resistance strength and dynamic characteristics.
This study was conducted to estimate the proper particle size of Zeolite particle as the soil conditioner for sandy soil. On sand columns filled with different size of sand fractions, Zeolite particles of different size were applied. Tap water was percolated through those columns under the same water level as paddy soil during rice growth. The > 0.1mm fraction of Zeolite was not vertically moved although the water was percolated for 96 hours. The < 0.1mm fraction of Zeolite was moved out 85.7% in 2-1mm, 32.64% in 1-0.5mm, and 24.5% in 0.5-0.25mm sand column, respectively. The proper diameter of Zeolite particle for amelioration of sandy soils widely distributed around river side in Korea was estimated as 0.25-0.1mm fraction in consideration of its pore size.
In order to construct a multiscale model for the compressive strength of plain concrete columns with circular cross section subjected to central longitudinal compressive load, a column failure mechanism is proposed based on the theory of internal instability. Based on an energy analysis, the multiscale model is developed to describe the failure process and predict the column's compressive strength. Comparisons of the predicted results with experimental data show that the proposed multiscale model can accurately represent both the compressive strength of the concrete columns with circular cross section, and the effect of column size on its strength.
