Column mixer Is one of the facilities to mix fluids at petrochemical plants. The vibration of column mixer is usually caused by pumps for fluid inflow and mixing of inside fluids. This fluid induced nitration is mainly responsible for the reduction of column life. Measurements were performed for understanding the vibration characteristics of the column. First measurement results showed the need of stiffness reinforcement. After the reinforcement work, second measurement confirmed the difference between two results. Modal analysis was also performed to investigate the resonance of the column vibration and the damage of the rib plate. To confirm fluid induced vibration at the column mixer fluid structure interaction analysis using ADINA/FSI was performed, which showed the necessity of the modification of the rotary valve.

Column mixer is one of the facility to mix fluids at petrochemical plants. The column vibration is caused by pumps for fluid inflow and mixing of inside fluids. This fluid induced vibration is mainly responsible for the reduction of column life. Measurements were performed three times for understanding the vibration characteristics of the column. First experimental results showed the need of stiffness reinforcement. After the reinforcement work, second measurement conformed the difference between two results. Modal analysis was also performed to investigate the resonance of the column vibration and the damage of the rib plate. To confirm the generation of the fluid instability in the column mixer fluid structure interaction analysis using ADINA/FSI was performed which showed the necessity of the modification of the rotary valve.
In order to recover Pt from the hydrochloric acid leaching solution of spent catalysts, bench scale Karr reciprocating column was employed. At an optimum flow rate and vibration frequency, iron and Pt was completely extracted by using TBP and Aliquat 336. At the same vibration frequency, iron and Pt was completely stripped by HCl and $HClO_4$ after adjusting the flow rate. In the case of extraction of HCl from the raffinate with TEHA, it was difficult to maintain the stability of the column extractor. A comparison of the operation results between column extractor and mixer-settler is reported.
Gas Chromatography (GC) is a wisely technique used for the separation and analysis of liquid and gas sample. Separation of the sample vapors is achieved via their differential migration through a capillary column with an insert carrier gas. The identity and quantity of each vapor in the mixer can be determined from its retention time in the column and a particular property of the gas, such as thermal conductivity, which can be related to the concentration of sample vapor in the carrier gas. Therefore, the flow characteristics in the spiral gas chromatographic column are numerically investigated in this study. Especially, different pressure drop between the front and the rear of GC column with various flow rates is estimated the governing equations are derived from making using of three-dimensional Naver-Stokes equation with incompressible and laminar model due to the nature of low Reynolds number flow. Using a commercial code, FLUENT, the pressure and flow fields in GC column are calculated with various flow rates. The characteristics of thermal cycling which is one of the most important factors affecting the column efficiency and analysis time is also estimated. Furthermore, numerical analyses are also carried out by using commercial code, ANSYS, with various values of power, which is applied to the heating element located at lower GC column.

A study of the POSE (predispersed solvent extraction) for succinic acid by colloidalliquid aphrons was conducted. The organic phase contaning TOA (tri-n-octylamine) and 1-octanol permits a selective extraction of succinic acid from its aqueous solution. There was no difference of the extractability of POSE and that of conventional mixer-settler type extraction. Taking into account the no mechanical mixing in POSE, it was concluded that the POSE process is more adaptive than the conventional mixer-settler type extraction process. From mass transfer analysis at the various concentration of TOA in counter-current continuous operation, the concentration of TOA had no influence on the mass transfer coefficient. The loading values in continuous POSE were almost same as those in batch operation.

In the actual research fields, the studies for applications of 180 MPa ultra high performance concrete (UHFRCC) to compressive members are limited due to its very high compressive strength. In this study, in order to find its practical use, UHPC was producted by using twin-shaft mixer batch plant. Also, to get basic research data for the design specification of UHPC compressive members, a series of draft experiments, including short columns with square and circular sections, were performed and its failure modes and behaviors were assessed.
A method for the quantification of eugenol in the medicinal herb Clove was developed and validated. For preparation of sample solutions clove was dried at $60^{\circ}C$ for 2h and ground by mixer and extracted with 95% ethanol for shaking extraction. The elutes were analyzed by HPLC system included a reversed phase column, a isocratic mobile phase of 60% methanol and PDA detector set at 280 nm. Calibration graphs were linear with very good correlation coefficients ($r^2>0.9999$) from $0.0125~1{\mu}g/ml$. The limit of detection per sample injection ($20{\mu}l$) was $0.81ng/{\mu}l$ and limit of quantification was $2.47ng/{\mu}l$. The method showed good intra-day precision (%RSD 0.08 ~ 0.27%) and inter-day precision (%RSD 0.32 ~ 1.19%).

The MRLs (maximum residue limits) of DDT (DDD and DDE) in fresh ginseng, dried ginseng, and steamed red ginseng are set as low as 0.01 mg/kg, 0.05 mg/kg, and 0.05 mg/kg, respectively. Therefore, this study was undertaken to develop a simple and highly sensitive analysis method, as well as to reduce interfering ginseng matrix peaks, for the determination of DDT isomers (o,p'-DDE, p,p'-DDE, o,p'-DDD, p,p'-DDD, o,p'-DDT, and p,p'-DDT) in fresh ginseng, dried ginseng, and steamed red ginseng at the 0.01 mg/kg level. The method used acetonitrile extraction according to simultaneous analysis, followed by normal-phase Florisil solid-phase extraction column clean-up. The purification method entailed the following steps: (1) dissolve the concentrated sample extract in 7 mL hexane; (2) add 3 mL of $H_2SO_4$; (3) vigorously shake on avortex mixer; (4) cetrifuge at 2000 rpm for 5 min; (5) transfer 3.5 mL of the supernatant to the Florisil-SPE (500 mg/6 mL);and (6) elute the SPE column with 1.5 mL of hexane and 10 mL of ether/hexane (6:94). The determination of DDT isomers was carried out by a gas chromatography-electron capture detector (GC-${\mu}$ECD). The hexane and ether/hexane (6:94) eluate significantly removed chromatographic interferences, and the addition of 30% $H_2SO_4$ to the acetonitrile extract effectively reduced many interfering ginseng matrix peaks, to allow for the determination of the DDT isomers at the 0.01 mg/kg level. The recoveries of the 6 fortified (most at 0.01 mg/kg) DDT isomers from fresh ginseng, dried ginseng, and steamed red ginseng ranged from 87.9 to 99.6%. The MDLs (method detection limits) ranged from 0.003 to 0.009 mg/kg. Finally, the application of this method for the determination of DDT isomers is sensitive, rapid, simple, and inexpensive.
