Effects of pH, sugar, ascorbic acid, organic acids and light sources on the stability of anthocyanin pigment extracted from Korean purple-fleshed potatoes (PL-6, PL-28, PL-31 and Jasim) were studied. The pH had remarkable influence on the color stability of anthocyanin pigment. With increasing pH, the color gradually fades as colorless pseudobases are formed. In acidic pH, anthocyanin was stable, but with increasing pH the color gradually changed to colorless. The addition of sugar decrease in color stability of the pigment during storage period. The most of organic acids, such as a tartaric, citric and succinic acids, were found to improve the stability of the pigment, while malic and malonic acid reduced the stability of the pigment. The addition of ascorbic acid considerable decreased in anthocyanin pigment stability, but the effect was not decreased by adding thiourea. The effect of light sources such as a darkroom, a fluorescent light, and sunlight, reduced gradually the stability of anthocyanin pigment. Therefore the pigment degradation could be minimized by shielding the light from the pigment.
The northeastern part of the Gyeongsang Basin is widely covered by the Cretaceous Hayang Group (Aptian to Albian). The Hayang Group consists of the IIjig. Hupyeongdong, Jeomgog, and Sagog formations. Heavy mineral analysis was carried out to define the possible source rocks of the Haynag Group snadstones. Heavy minerals separated from IIjig, Hupyeongdong, and Jeomgog sandstones are hematite, ilmenite, leucoxene, magnetite, pyrite, actinolite, andalusite, apatite, biotite, chlorite, epidote, garnet, hornblende, kyanite, monazite, muscovite, rutile, sphene, spinel, staurolite, tourmaline, and zircon. Based on their close association and sensitiveness, the heavy mineral assemblages can be classified into 6 syutes: 1)apatite-green tourmaline-sphene-colorless/yellowish zircon; 2) colorless garnet-epidote-rutile-brown tourmaline; 3) rounded purple zircon-rounded tourmaline-rounded rutile; 4) augite-hornblende-color- less zircon; 5) epidote-garnet-sphene; and 6) blue tourmaline. The possible source rocks corresponding to each assemblage are 1) granitic rocks; 2) metamorphic rocks (schist and gneiss) ; 3) older sedimentary rocks; 4) andesitic rocks; 5) metamorphosed impure limestone; and 6) pegmatite, respectively. Previous paleocurrent data suggest that the sediments of the study area were mainly derived from the northeastern to southeastern directions. Thus, the most possible source areas would be the east extension part of the sobaegsan metamorphic complex to the northeast and the Cheongsong Ridge to the southeast.
Amethysts in Eonyang Granite of Woolju-Kun, Kyungnam Province are frequently parallelly grown on top of preexisting smoky quartz crystallized on milky and colorless quartz crystals, which, as a whole, resemble "mushroom" in outer appearance. Fluid inclusions in the amethysts may be grouped into (1) gaseous inclusions (G>L), (2) liquid inclusions (L>G), (3) $L_{CO_2}$-bearing inclusions (L+G+$L_{CO_2}$), (4) halite-bearing inclusions (L+G+halite), (5) multiphase inclusions (L+G+halite+sylvite${\pm}$opaque mineral). In addition, euhedral K-feldspars and acicular hematite crystals are included in colorless-milky quartz and deep purple-red quartz, respectively. Filling temperatures of each type of fluid inclusions were measured as follows: $320{\sim}560^{\circ}C$ for gaseous inclusions; $100{\sim}290^{\circ}C$ for liquid inclusions; $200{\sim}310^{\circ}C$ for $L_{CO_2}$-bearing inclusions; $300{\sim}430^{\circ}C$ for halite-bearing inclusions; and $370{\sim}430^{\circ}C$ for polyphase inclusions. The finished-gem amethysts from Eonyang may be distinguished from Brazilian amethysts by the difference in filling degree of gaseous inclusions by the presence of hematite aciculae, and of $L_{CO_2}$-bearing inclusions, and also by the absence of Zebra-striation structure. They may also be differentiated from synthetic amethysts by presence of straight color banding, solid inclusions, and $L_{CO_2}$-bearing inclusions which are not found in synthetic materials.
Large colorless single crystals of sodium zeolite X, stoichiometry |Na80 |[Si112Al80O384]-FAU, with diameters up to 200 μm and Si/Al = 1.41 have been synthesized from gels with the composition of 2.40SiO2 : 2.00NaAlO2 : 7.52NaOH : 454H2O : 5.00TEA. One of these, a colorless octahedron about 200 μm in cross-section has been treated with aqueous 0.1 M KNO3 for the preparation of K+-exchanged zeolite X. The crystal structure of |K80|[Si112Al80O384]-FAU per unit cell, a = 24.838(4) A, dehydrated at 673 K and 1 × 10-6 Torr, has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Fd at 294 K. The structure was refined using all intensities to the final error indices (using only the 707 reflections for which Fo > 4σ (Fo)) R1 = 0.075 (based on F) and R2 = 0.236 (based on F2). About 80 K+ ions per unit cell are found at an unusually large number of crystallographically distinct positions, eight. Eleven K+ ions are at the centers of double 6-rings (D6Rs, site I; K-O = 2.492(6) A and O-K-O (octahedral) = 88.45(22)o and 91.55(22)o). Site-I' position (in the sodalite cavities opposite D6Rs) is occupied by five K+ ions per unit cell; these K+ ions are recessed 1.92 A into the sodalite cavities from their 3-oxygen planes (K-O = 2.820(19) A, and O-K-O = 78.6(6)o). Twety-three K+ ions are found at three nonequivalent site II (in the supercage) with occupancies of 5, 9, and 9 ions; these K+ ions are recessed 0.43 A, 0.75 A, and 1.55 A, respectively, into the supercage from the three oxygens to which it is bound (K-O = 2.36(13) A, 2.45(13) A, and 2.710(13) A, O-K-O = 116.5(20)o, 110.1(17)o, and 90.4(6)o, respectively). The remaining sixteen, thirteen, and twelve K+ ions occupy three sites III' near triple 4-rings in the supercage (K-O = 2.64(3) A, 2.94(3) A, 2.73(5) A, 2.96(6) A, 3.06(4) A, and 3.08(3) A).
Copolyimides containing pendant trifluoromethyl ($CF_3$) groups were synthesized from 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) and bis[4-(3-aminophenoxy)phenyl]sulfone (BAPS) with various concentrations of 2,2-bis[4-(4-aminophenoxy)phenyl]hexafluoropropane(BAPP) to poly(amic acid)(PAA), followed by thermal imidization. These copolyimides were readily soluble in N,N'-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) and could be solution-cast into a flexible and tough film. The thermomechanical properties, morphology and an optical transparency of the copolyimide films were determined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), wide angle X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), universal tensile machine (UTM), and a UV-Vis spectrometer. The cast copolyimide films exhibited high optical transparency with a cut-off wavelength (${\lambda}_0$) of $275{\sim}319\;nm$ in UV-vis absorption and a low yellow index(YI) value of $3.65{\sim}10.37$. The thermo-mechanical properties of copolyimide films were enhanced linearly with increasing a BAPP content. In contrast, the optical transparency of the copolyimide films was found to get worse with increasing a BAPP content.
Cellulose acetate derivatives containing 6-(p-hexyloxyphenyl)carbonyl spirobenzopyran (CA-COSP) were prepared from base-catalyzed etherification of cellulose acetate, and their physical and photochromic properties were characterized. The degree of substitution of COSP was calculated from the amount of residual hydroxyl groups in cellulose acetate measured by the $^1H$-NMR and UV spectrometric data. It was ranging from 0.87 to 45.5% depending on the reaction condition. UV/vis spectrometry of the resulting CA-COSP revealed that the polymer shows a reversible color change by changing its color from colorless to blue upon UV irradiation forming a merocyanine structure, and returning back again to colorless spiropyran structure by visible light or by heat. The rate of color change was faster in solution than in the film. In the more polar solvent, the more stable was the resulting merocyanine, and the slower was the rate of reverse reaction to spiropyran. Compared to COSP blended with cellulose acetate, in which a phase separation was observed for samples containing more than 0.9 wt% of COSP, up to 48 wt% of COSP could be blended in CA-COSP without phase separation.
To study the relative effectiveness of the antioxidants (BHA, BHT) and the transparent cellophane films (colorless, blue and red) on rancidity development of the sesame oils treated with sunlight - irradiation condition, this experiment was carried out. The results obtained as follows ; 1. The retarding effect of the antioxidants on POV, COV and TBA development was more effective than control, and Bill was more effective than BHA. 2. The transparent cellophane films were more effective than antioxidants, and red was more effective than blue transparent cellophane film. 3. During the storage of the sesame oils which were covered with colorless, blue and red thansparent cellophane film respectively, the contents of linoleic acid in sesame oil were decreased, while oleic acid were increased.
Hydrofluoric acid is a colorless gas or fuming liquid with a strong, irritating odor. Hydrofluoric acid burns are uncommon; however, if severe burn occur, they caused death from systemic effects, such as fatal cardiac arrthmia. We experienced two cases of hydrofluoric acid chemical burns on digits. These patients had typical clinical features of hydrofluoric acid chemical burns, such as pulsating pain at the burn site, as well as ischemic and necrotic skin changes. The hydrofluoric acid chemical burn was confirmed by a history of exposure. Subsequently, we made a calcium gluconate gel by mixing 20% calcium gluconate, an antagonist against hydrofluoric acid, with lubricant, and we injected 10% calcium gluconate subcutaneously when they complained of pain rated at higher than 5 on the pain scale. Simultaneously, we monitored the patients' electrocardiographs and checked their serum total calcium, ionized calcium, and magnesium levels serially. Clinical presentations and the emergency management of hydrofluoric acid chemical burns were reviewed along with the current literature. These patients were discharged without any significant complications.
This study reports the discovery of two oxytrichid ciliates, Cyrtohymena primicirrata (Berger and Foissner, 1987) and Oxytricha granulifera Foissner and Adam, 1983, in Jeju Island, Korea. The morphology of the two species was studied using live observation and protargol impregnation. These species are described as follows: Cyrtohymena primicirrata has a body size in live specimens $90-140{\times}40-60{\mu}m$, length : width ratio 2.3 : 1 on average; elongated and slender obovate in outline of body. Cortical granules are shiny yellow on the ventral and dorsal side. Adoral zone of membranelles (AZM) is covering about 48% of the cell with about 38 adoral membranelles. Arrangement of undulating membranes is ordinary Cyrtohymena pattern. Dorsal kineties is six rows with $5{\mu}m$ long bristles. Oxytricha granulifera has a body size in live specimens $90-115{\times}25-38{\mu}m$, length : width ratio 3.31 on average; elongated ellipsoidal in outline of body. Cortical granules are colorless on the ventral and dorsal side. AZM is covering 28% of the cell length in vivo with about 24 adoral membranelles. Arrangement of undulating membranes is Oxytricha pattern. Dorsal kineties is five rows with about $3{\mu}m$ long dorsal bristles.

Recently, polymeric microlens arrays have become important elements in many applications. Microlens arrays have been used to enhance luminance efficiency and luminance power efficiency of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and organic LEDs. Many processes for fabrication of microlens array are studied. Though the MLA has been fabricated by electroformed mold, LIGA process and reflow method, these methods were required masks, multiple process steps and post processing. In this paper, we proposed rapid and direct UV laser direct fabrication process using colorless liquid photopolymer, NOA60 for polarization activated microlens. The microlens arrays are formed on the NOA60 on glass, after the focused laser energy was irradiated to the material. The diameter of MLA was varied from 42 to 88 ${\mu}m$, and the height from 0.9 to 1.6 ${\mu}m$. The MLA fabricated using NOA60 shows more then 85% transmittance as well as good hardness for optical module.
