  • Alkali soluble and photo-curable polyesters were prepared from fluorene epoxy acrylate and various aromatic dianhydrides. To make a black matrix for LCD color-filter application, photo-resist solution was made by mixing synthesized polyester as binder, carbon black as pigment, initiator and multifunctional monomer in solvent. Black matrix pattern was formed on the glass substrate by lithography process. In this study, we synthesized various polyester-based binder polymers for LCD color-filter applications, and compared the analytical properties of those polymers and lithography patterns.

  • This study discussed the effect of ink adhesion on color filter glass after different kinds of plasma treatment. From contact angle analysis, we could get different ink adhesion results after HMDSZ, $O_2$, IPA, and $CF_4$ plasma treatment. Substrates after PFMCH plasma treatment have good surface hydrophobic property, and contact angle raise from $<10^{\circ}\;to\;50^{\circ}$.

  • For obtaining the best panel quality of color filter on array(COA) architecture in TFF LCD, we investigated the influence of deposition temperature, $O_2$ flow, thickness on the optical transmittance, wet etching and adhesion properties of IZO deposited onto each color photo resist(red, green, blue). Average transmittance of the pixel single layer in the visible range(between 380 and 780nm) was mainly affected by thickness and showed maximum at 1250 ${\AA}$ while the thickness showing peak transparency in each R, G, B wavelength was different. The relation was calculated by using bi-layer transmission and reflectance model, which corresponded to experimental data very well. The adhesion of IZO deposited on each color PR was found to have enhanced value except red PR case, compared to that of IZO which was deposited on $SiN_x$. Wet etching pattern linearity was decreased as the thickness increased. The thickness of IZO was one of vital factors in order to optimize overall pixel process for fabricating COA structure.

  • The prototype of color fitters for the liquid crystal displays (LCD) using cholesteric liquid crystal monomers was produced. Cholesteric liquid crystal is characterized by the unique optical features of selective reflection, which is due to the helical twisting structures of LCs comparable to the wavelength of the incident light under certain conditions of substrate treatment. In the results of the experiment, cholesteric films for red, green, and blue light reflections respectively were produced and the viewing angle dependence of these films were investigated. Reflective light of red and green films shifted to shorter wavelength regions as viewing angle becomes greater, but blue one shifted very little. Periodic micrometer-sized half-spherical photoresist formed by thermal reflow method after photo-lithography was patterned on glass substrates. The viewing angle dependence of reflective light colors of red, green, and blue films on the patterned substrates compared with those on no patterned substrates was investigated. We could confirm the dependences were much smaller on the patterned substrates by bare eyes and Lab-color coordination methods qualitatively.
