  • A study to select ground colors of Fuji apple for maturity index which are needed to standardize grading of the apples is presented. Two extreme colors of immature and fully mature Fuji and Zonagold apples produced in Korea were determined. Various ground colors of Fuji apple between the two extreme colors were collected and classified by human vision and colors of Fuji apple for maturity index were selected from the classification. Coordinates of the selected colors in xy chromaticity diagram were determined by spectrophotometers to define them in a standard coordinate system. Coordinates of the colors in r-g chromaticity diagram using a color machine vision system were also determined to use the colors in apple grading by the machine vision system. Grading Fuji apples using the machine vision system was performed and result of the grading was compared with Ending results of human vision and colorimeter. The comparison was performed with the same Fuji apple samples and showed 65% md 75% of same grades, respectively, as the grades determined by the machine vision system. Differences of fading performance between the compared three grading methods were explained as mainly because of the differences of observation area of the grading methods.

  • In this Paper, we propose the color-temperature conversion method using an one-dimensional illuminant chromaticity. It also presents the design and the implementation of the proposed method. The performance of the method is compared with that of two-dimensional conversion method in Robertson's algorithm based on calculated color temperatures. The proposed method is demonstrated experimentally for color temperatures in the range of 3,000OK to 25,000OK with the Xilinx Virtex-E FPGA XCV2000E-6BG560.

  • This paper proposes a non-contact color inspection system for plasma display panel (PDP). The red, green, and blue test pattern images are acquired by using the area color CCD camera at the various distance from the PDP. The RGB values are obtained from the region of interest (ROI) which are extracted by applying the image processing to the test pattern image. Finally, the CIE xy and u'v' chromaticity coordinates of the test pattern images according to the distance are acquired from the RGB color coordinates.

  • This study aims to analyze the illumination effects of bridges across the Han River. For the purpose, 8 bridges were selected. Field survey and measurements were performed, and the physical values such as luminance, color temperature and chromaticity were measured by Radiant Imaging Prometric 1400 Color. The results of the study are as follows; (1) Metal halide lamp, sodium lamp and LED(Light Emitting Diode) of various colors, are used in illuminating the bridges and create color contrasts and color changing by color filters. (2) Luminance contrast of the illuminated bridges affects 'modeling' and 'spare sense' of bridges, and it might improve people's preference and impression. (3) Color temperature of the illuminated bridges is influenced by 'color of bridge', 'material of bridge' and, 'color temperature and color of light sources'. (4) 'Structure of bridges' and 'luminaires' influence on the physical feature of the bridges. Especially, illumination of the bridges shows resemblant patterns by 'structure of bridges'.

  • This study deals with the color formation of ceramic pigment in the $TiO_2$-SnO-ZnO system. We designed compounds to control the color formation depending on the composition using the Design of Experiment. The color coordinate values of synthesized pigments, $L^*a^*b^*$ were measured and statistically analyzed color for changing elements depending on its composition. The relationship between the major crystalline phases and chromaticity was examined using XRD, and the oxidation states of each element were analyzed by XPS. The synthesized pigments based on the compound design exhibited various color changes ranging from yellow-orange to green-blue and brown. The statistical analysis on the spectrophotometer results shows that $a^*$ and $b^*$ values decreased with $TiO_2$ content, and increased with SnO content. Yellow-orange color was detected with the main peak of SnO, and the green-blue color developed with the main peak of $Zn_2TiO_4$. The $a^*$ and $b^*$ values increased with increased SnO peak intensity, and decreased with increased $Zn_2TiO_4$ peak intensity. The results revealed that pigment color formation was influenced by changes in the main crystalline phases and crystalline intensity. However, XPS analysis of the oxidation states of each element showed little correlation with the pigment chromaticity result.

  • An effective WOLED structure was demonstrated which improved a luminous efficiency and white color chromaticity independent on applied bias by employing effective carrier transporting layer, without any alteration of emissive materials. The modified WOLEDs exhibited 2 times higher luminous efficiency than the control device and showed balanced white emission during an operation.

  • In this research, the fundamental experiment for colour concrete(by using pigment) has been invested. Fundamental properties and dyeability for the colour mortar as the changing replacement ratio of pigment has been tested. For the conclusion, with the increasing ratio of pigment, the flow and compressive strength for the mortar has been decreased, For the dyeability, there's little difference when replacement ratio of dyestuff changed when the colour is red and yellow, but large difference when the blue pigment was used. Consider about the workability and strength of the mortar, the optimum pigment's replacement ratio is fixed as 2.5%.

  • Purpose: Basic design of virtual colored overlay, film overlay, colored lenses and colored glasses for people with Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome. Methods: I calculated sRGB and RGB values of the overlays from measured data. I evaluated the relationship between the combinational chromaticities composed of Galaxy Tab white background and film overlays and the chromaticities of pure film overlays. Results: Implementable sRGB and RGB values of the overlays is calculated. The chromaticities of film overlays are different from them with white paper background and them with Galaxy Tab's white background, but showed a certain relationship between them. Light transmittances of Intuitive Overlay are the most (59%-79%) among them and average light reflectance of Reading Ruler is least(8%). Conclusions: The sRGB values and the RGB values are directly applicable to implement assistive tools and the light transmittances are used to calculate ${\alpha}$, transparency of virtual overlay in IT devices. It is recommended to consider the chromaticity of white color in implementing virtual colored overlay in the case which the chromaticity is considerably different to theoretical chromaticity of white color.

  • Shadow is a physical phenomenon observed in natural scenes and has a negative effect on various image processing systems such as intelligent video surveillance, traffic surveillance and aerial imagery analysis. Therefore, shadow detection should be considered as a preprocessing process in all areas of computer vision. In this paper, we define and analyze various feature elements for shadow detection in a single natural image that does not require a reference image. The shadow elements describe the intensity, chromaticity, illuminant-invariant, color invariance, and entropy image, which indicate the uncertainty of the information. The results show that the chromaticity and illuminant-invariant images are effective for shadow detection. In the future, we will define a fusion map of various shadow feature elements, and continue to study shadow detection that can adapt to various lighting levels, and shadow removal using chromaticity and illuminance invariant images.

  • Object color can be determined by the characteristic of scene illuminant and surface. In this paper, perceived illumination effect is extended and with the highlight analysis, hybrid approach is proposed to estimate the illuminant chromaticity. The perceived illumination approach provides a stable candidate range for the estimation of illuminant chromaticity, however, the accuracy is slightly degraded depending on the image contents. The highlight approach does not depend on the image contents and provides an accurate solution of the scene illuminant chromaticity, however, it is difficult to determine the final solution among many cross-points. These two approaches are in effect mutually compensating. The solution from perceived illumination can be used as a starting point or as base information for the highlight approach to get the final solution.
