A Study on the Color Modelling Method for Color Picture Tube Color Display (CPT 색제시를 위한 색모델링 방법 연구)

  • Color pictures on CPT are generally affected by the receiver characteristic and the condition of exterior illuminants. Moreover, readjustment of incorrect color in the CPT causes color distortion on a given picture. This paper describes a color adjustment method for modelling of CPT at the view point of observer in the ordinary lighting condition. To develop this method, we proposed ways of luminance recompensation under the gamma transformation for the intensity of illuminant, hue/saturation compensation for the types of illuminant and control of specific color for the reference. Based on these method, a color correlation system is suggested with the goal of reducing the color errors which are represented due to the influence of reflectance component of illuminants, the gamma transformation of CPT and the frequently adjustment of reference scene to set a optimum color.

  • Most of flated scanners and digital cameras in prepress process utilize CCD technology. Device calibration and characterization process is needed to transform the device dependent color to the device independent color. ICC profiles for digital input devices encapsulated information relating the device values to CIELAB or CIEXYZ coordinates. The main purposes of this article is to evaluate some of the transformation methods based on ICC proposed device profiles and to propose optimal color transformation method for accurate color imaging in printing process.

  • In this paper, a new light-value approaching method to enhance a color image by excluding the effect of incident illumination is proposed. The method uses the fundamental vector transformation in which an estimated color of illumination is rotated to the white color of natural daylight. Then the transformed red, green, and blue values of each pixel are nonlinearly mapped into the 8-bit values to enhance intensity and saturation in the dark portion of the image. The proposed algorithm can produce the enhanced color image fast and efficiently without any space conversion or noticeable distortion.

Color Transformation of Images based on User Preference (사용자 취향을 반영한 영상의 색변환)

  • Color affects people in their various combinations of hue, saturation and value. On the other hand, people may feel different emotion from the same color. If we can introduce these characteristics of color and people's emotion about color to emotion-based digital technologies and their contents, we can effectively draw users' interest and immersion to the contents. In this paper, we will show how people feel about color and present a method of image coloring that reflects the user's preference. First, we define basic templates that reflect the relationship between color and emotion, and then perform an image coloring. To reflect user's preference, we compute weights for hue, saturation and value through the experiments on each subject's preference about hue, saturation and value. The image coloring for each subject's taste will be drawn by updating the weights of hue, saturation and value. Through the results of experiments and surveys, we found that people were more satisfied with the transformation of the templates which reflected user's preference than the one that did not.

  • Colors of 2D animation characters are generally assigned by art directors' subjective color sense. Even same characters should be colored differently according to the mood of animation scenes. In this study, we introduce the model for automatic color transformation of characters by using neural network. It can not only create automatically colors of characters which are good matched with 2D animation scenes but also reproduce art directors' subjective color sense. Specifically, this neural network model is initially made to learn the patterns of color change between basic colors of characters and colors of characters in various scene. Then if you know basic colors of some characters, you can derive colors of characters under other light source environments using the learned neural network. Subjective ratings(which is adopted to verify the proposed model) by color experts on the automatically transformed colors showed that the colors created by the model tended to be evaluated natural.

  • The extraction of lip region is essential to Lip Reading, which is a field of image processing to get some meaningful information by the analysis of lip movement from human face image. Many conventional methods to extract lip region are proposed. One is getting the position of lip by using geometric face structure. The other discriminates lip and skin regions by using color information only. The former is more complex than the latter, however it can analyze black and white image also. The latter is very simple compared to the former, however it is very difficult to discriminate lip and skin regions because of close similarity between these two regions. And also, the accuracy is relatively low compared to the former. Conventional analysis of color coordinate systems are mostly based on specific extraction scheme for lip regions rather than coordinate system itself. In this paper, the method for selection of effective color coordinate system and chromaticity transformation to discriminate these two lip and skin region are proposed.

Color correction of tile color input device using the Neural Network (신경망을 이용한 칼라 입력장치의 칼라 보정)

  • The demand for recognizing the color as well as the object shape is increasing to use the detailed information, because-the expense of color input/output devices become cheap. The research on the color correction should be researched for the exact color presentation and color reproduction of color input/output systems. In this paper, we researched on the color correction of color scanner. The characterization of color scanner is a two step process of gray-balancing and color transformation. The decoupling of the gray-balancing from the color transformation enables the portability of the scanner characterization. We used the least square methods for the line fitting and the Neural Network for the storage space and computation speed. The output of Neural Network is similar to the target value in three-dimensional tristimulus space. The proposed color correction method can be used for all scanners of a manufacturer's model because of the portability.

Single Image Dehazing Using Linear Transformation of Saturation (채도의 선형 변환을 이용한 단일 영상 안개 제거)

  • In this paper, an efficient single dehazing algorithm is proposed based on linear transformation by assuming that a linear relationship exists in saturation component between the haze image and haze-free image. First, we analyze the linearity of saturation channel, estimate the medium transmission map in terms of the saturation component. Then, the intensity of haze-free image is assumed by using CLAHE to enhance contrast of haze image. Experimental results demonstrate that proposed algorithm can naturally recover the image, especially can remove color distortion caused by conventional methods. Therefore, our approach is competitive with other state-of-the art single dehazing methods.

  • This study presents a new algorithm to detect the facial feature in a color image entered from the mobile device with complex backgrounds and undefined distance between camera's location and the face. Since skin color model with Hough transformation spent approximately 90$\%$ of running time to extract the fitting ellipse for detection of the facial feature, we have changed the approach to the simple geometric vector operation, called a TS(Triangle-Square) transformation. As the experimental results, this gives benefit of reduced run time. We have similar ratio of face detection to other methods with fast speed enough to be used on real-time identification system in mobile environments.

  • Color image is largely corrupted by various ambient illumination. However, human perceives always white color as white under any illumination because of a characteristic of human vision, called color constancy. In the conventional algorithm which applied the constancy effect, after the RGB color space is transformed to the IHS(Intensity, Hue, and Saturation) color space, then the hue is preserved and the intensity or the saturation is properly enhanced. Then the enhanced IHS color is reversely transformed to the RGB color space. In this process, the color distortion is included due to the color gamut error. But in the proposed algorithm, there is not transformation. In that, the RGB color is considered as 3 dimensional color vector and we assume that white color is the natural daylight. As the color vector of the illumination can be calculated as the average vector of R, G, and B image, we can achieve the constancy effect by simply rotating the illumination vector to the white color vector. The simulation results show the efficiency of the vector rotating process for color image enhancement.
