  • We present a color-magnitude (CM) diagram of M35, an open cluster. A DSLR camera was used for measuring the color index with the RGB channels. It is cost-effective and has relatively easy controls compared to astronomical CCDs for educational environments. The 8-inch refracting telescope was used at the Korea Science Academy of KAIST in Busan. The B-G color index was obtained from observations and the magnitudes from publications in order to draw CM diagram. The linear correlation of B-G to B-V is found. The RGB channel of the DSLR camera can be easily represented on the CM diagram for astronomical education with aid of easy controls.

  • We present a new galaxy classification scheme in the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) [$3.4{\mu}m$]-[$12{\mu}m$] color versus $12{\mu}m$ luminosity diagram. In this diagram, galaxies can be classified into three groups in different evolutionary stages. Late-type galaxies are distributed linearly along "MIR star-forming sequence" identified by Hwang et al. (2012). Some early-type galaxies show another sequence at [3.4]-[12] $(AB){\simeq}-2.0$, and we call this 'MIR blue sequence'. They are quiescent systems with old stellar population older than 10 Gyr. Between the MIR star-forming sequence and the MIR blue sequence, some early- and late-type galaxies are sparsely distributed, and we call these galaxies 'MIR green cloud galaxies'. Interestingly, both MIR blue sequence galaxies and MIR green cloud ones lie on the red sequence in the optical color-magnitude diagram. However, MIR green cloud galaxies have lower stellar masses and younger stellar populations (smaller $D_n4000$) than MIR blue sequence galaxies, suggesting that MIR green cloud galaxies are in the transition stage from MIR star-forming sequence galaxies to MIR blue sequence ones. We present differences in various galaxy properties between the three MIR classes using a multi-wavelength data, combined with the WISE and Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 10, of local (0.03 < z < 0.07) galaxies.

  • Unity Painting is a concept that the researcher put forward to locate his own creative style in his creation. Unity Painting, with a clue of reflecting the characteristics of contemporary oriental visual culture, combines the contemporary painting features of a variety of western painting languages. It aims to link the painting system formed in the context of oriental culture with the world's contemporary art and try to present a new contemporary painting with oriental genes. According to the Chinese literature, the researcher sorted out the five main colors (五正色), ten colors for Heavenly Stems (十天干色彩), five intermediate colors (五间色), and five colors as the expression of the Chi of Thriving and Fading and the Chi of Birth and Death, and deduced the summary and stipulation of the color of yin-yang and five elements under the concept of Unity Painting. Based on this, the researcher drew the color-phase and its variation stipulation diagram of ten colors for Heavenly Stems, the orientation of Heavenly Stems (天干方位), color-phase variation diagram (色相变化图), as well as the stipulation system diagram of the five elements (五行), Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches (干支), energy, time and colors. Through the research and collation of the literature, the researcher took the stipulated five elements color (五行色彩) as the basis of the color concept of creation to complete the work. This paper discusses how to find the starting point of contemporary art creation in the context of traditional oriental culture, sorts out the practical creation logic, and provides ideas for subsequent researchers, with a view to better establishing the identity of the creator and providing research significance and value in the context of the study of oriental art.

  • The general photometric, spectroscopic, and kinematic properties of the late type halo stars are investigated from a sample of known true halo stars. Halo stars are distributed in a lower left region of infrared (J-H) vs (H-K) color-color diagram, which is recomfirmed to be useful for selection of halo stars. They move with average velocity components of 9 km/sec, -14 km/sec, and 5 km/sec in U, V, and W directions respectively. They are distributed seperately from disk stars in a diagram of metallicity index, CaH1/TiO5 vs (R-I).

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the color characteristics of preferred summer clothing textiles, such as shirts, blouse, slacks and skirt. 109 male and female college students evaluated the preference to clothing textiles in previous research and top 10 kinds of textiles were chosen for each clothing item. To analyze the color characteristics of preferred textiles, spectral data were measured with spectrophotometer. By the results, color and color tone, value of L, a, b according to clothing item and season were compared. Chromaticity diagram was drawn, too. The results of this study are as following: 1. Color characteristics of shirts textile college student preferred for summer was PB color and p tone. The textile, in general, represented simple color that is close to achromatic color with light and soft shade. 2. The most preferred color of blouse textiles was G color and It, d tone. The color characteristics of blouse textiles represented stronger and more brilliant than those of shirts. 3. For slacks, colors of preferred summer textiles were mostly B, YR color and p, It.g, dk tone. Therefore, preferred textiles for slacks represented simple bluish or brownish color that is close to achromatic color with light or dark shade. 4. The most preferred color of skirt textiles were Y, R color and It tone. Skirt textiles had various colors compared to slacks. 5. College students generally prefer simple cold color that is close to achromatic color, because shirts and slacks have high frequency of wearing. In color tone, light and soft tone were preferred for shirts, and for slacks, they preferred light or dark tone. Comparatively, blouse and skirt which have low frequency of wearing represented various colors which contain more brilliant and stronger toned warm colors. 6. By the result of analyzing L, a, b value, shirts and blouse textiles showed higher L value than those of slacks and skirt. The textiles preferred by college students were generally close to achromatic color, because values of a, b were very low. This was confirmed with the result of chromaticity diagram. 7. In pattern of preferred textiles, solid textile were preferred mostly for shirt, blouse, skirt and slacks, and stripe pattern was preferred secondly.

  • Transient luminous events (TLEs; sprites, elves, jets and etc.) are lightning-related optical flashes occurring above thunderstorms. Since the first discovery of sprites in 1989, scientists have learned a great deal about the morphological, spectroscopic and electromagnetic characteristics of TLEs through ground and spacecraft campaigns. However, most of the TLE studies were based on events recorded over US High Plains. To elucidate the possible biasing effects, space-borne observations are needed and have their merits. Imager of sprites and Upper Atmospheric Lightning (ISUAL) on the FORMOSAT-2 satellite is the first instrument to carry out a true global measurement of TLEs from a low- earth orbit. In this short paper, we apply a common astronomical data analysis technique, two-color diagram, on the ISUAL spectrophotometer (SP) data. By choosing appropriated bandpasses and converting the measured flux of TLEs into the unit of magnitude, two-color diagrams of TLEs can be constructed. We demonstrate that two-color diagrams, which were constructed from the narrow-band spectrophotometer data, can be used to classify different types of TLEs and trace their temporal evolution. The amount of reddening due to Earth's atmosphere can also be estimated from two-color diagrams assembled from the broad-band spectrophotometer data.

  • We present BV CCD photometry of metal-rich globular cluster M71. Based on our color-magnitude diagram (CMD), we derive the distance to M71 using a sample of Hipparcos subdwarfs of similar metallicity. Our distance modulus is (m - M)v = 13.46(${\pm}0.17$. CMD comparison was also made between M71 and 47 Tuc. We confirm that there exists a significant age differonce(> 2 billion years) in spite of their Similarity in metallicity.

  • UBVI CCD photometry of open cluster NGC 2324 is presented. C-M diagrams of this cluster show well-defined main sequence with a red giant clump centered at B - V =1.05, V =13.45. We derived the major cluster characteristics; E(B - V)=0.17$\pm$0.12 from color-color diagram and mean color of red giant clump stars, (m - M)o=13.1$\pm$0.1 from zero age main sequence fitting, and [Fe/H]$\~$-0.32 from comparison the theoretical model developed by Bertelli et al. (1994) to the observed C-M diagrams. We estimate the age of NGC 2324 to be log t$\~$8.8 by applying isochrone fitting and morphological age index method.

  • 1607 OH/IR stars associated with IRAS sources are assembled and the IRAS LRS spectra of 980 OH/IR stars are examined in this paper. The nature of the circumstellar dust for these sources is classified. The distributions of these subgroups of OH/IR stars in the IRAS color-color diagram and the period-color diagram are interpreted with their evolutionary status. The Galactic and the velocity distributions of these subgroups of OH/IR stars are also presented. The correlations among the expanding velocities of the envelopes, colors, periods and the pumping efficiencies for subgroups of OH/IR stars are investigated to outline the evolutionary status of OH/IR stars.
