  • Except the collision avoidance performance related to the rapid lane change, the 4WS vehicle has better dynamic stability and handling performance than the conventional 2WS vehicle which has close relation with the driver's safety, a 4WS conrol method with the effect of steering wheel angular velocity is proposed based on the fact that the driver steers abruptly the steering wheel to avoid the collision. And the effects of the proposed 4WS control method are investigated on the dynamic stability and handling performance by using the ISO lane change test code.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of air bag deployment in passenger car head-on collisions on injuries to the driver. The drivers in head-on collisions who were brought to the emergency rooms of two hospitals from January 2011 and October 2014 were evaluated, as were the vehicles involved. The driver injury level were assessed by utilizing Collision Deformation Classification (CDC) codes, and the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) and Injury Severity Score (ISS), respectively. In this study, it was shown that the chest ISS and AIS were significantly high when an air bag only is deployed. A statistically significant difference was found in the crush extent when the driver who fastened the seatbelt was found to be affected more than the ISS 9. Even when an air bag is deployed in a head-on car collision, injury severity can vary according to accident circumstances and crash severity. Accordingly, first aid can be rapidly given, and the injured person can be quickly referred to a hospital, only if the assessment of persons involved in a vehicle accident is accurately carried out.

  • The present article aims to perform numerical calculations for inter-spray impingement of two diesel sprays under a high injection pressure and to propose a new hybrid model for droplet collision on the basis of literature findings. The hybrid model is compared with the original O'Rourke's model, which has been widely used for spray calculations. The main difference between the hybrid model and the O'Rourke's model is mainly in determination of the collision threshold condition, in which the preferred directional effect of droplets and a critical collision radius are included. The Wave model involving the cavitation effect inside a nozzle is used for predictions of atomization processes. Numerical results are reported for different impingement angles of 60°and 90°in order to show the influence of the impinging angle on spray characteristics and also compared with experimental data. It is found that the hybrid model shows slightly better agreement with experimental data than the O'Rourke's model.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to present the basic guidelines for preventing human error by measuring and analyzing the risk of collision perceived by the ship operator in the collision risk situation by using Korea Coast Guard patrol ships. Background: In the last 5 years, 97.5% of the causes of ship collision occurred at the sea was caused by human factors. However, the rate of marine accidents due to human error has not been reduced yet. Experiments and researches on the ship operators using the ships in actual operation are rarely performed. Method: Using two K.C.G Ships on the sea, the ship measured by 30 persons who are the subject of the ship (ship operator) when both ships approach and the relative distance gradually decreases in four encounter situations, perceived ship collision risk (PSCR) data were analyzed by statistical analysis. Results: The age and boarding career of the ship operator in the situation of ship collision risks encountered a negative impact on perceived collision risk in all four opposing encounter situations S1 ($000^{\circ}$), S2 ($045^{\circ}$), S3 ($090^{\circ}$) and S4 ($135^{\circ}$) respectively. That is, the higher the age of the ship operator, the lower the perceived risk of collision and the lower the age, the higher the risk of collision. Also, there was a difference between the average of group A (20~30 years) and group B (40~50 years) according to age of the ship operators at $000^{\circ}$, $045^{\circ}$ and $090^{\circ}$ and there was no difference at $135^{\circ}$. The mean difference of the experience of boarding career was also significantly different between group A (less than 4 years) and group B (more than 5 years), but there was no significant difference at $135^{\circ}$. Conclusion: The results showed that age and boarding career of the ship operators had negative impact on perceived collision risk and there was a difference in perceived risk of collision according to age and abundance of boarding career. As a result, by focusing on the ship operators who are in the age group of 20~30 years old and have less than 4 years of experience in boarding the ship. It is expected that the effect of prevention of marine accidents can be expected by avoiding collision avoidance. Application: The results of this study can be used as policy data of related organizations to prevent human error of ship operators and as training data of training institutes.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide fundamental data for an anchor collision simulation of an FCM (flexible concrete mattress). Numerical material models (elastic-perfectly plastic model, Drucker-Prager model, and RHT concrete model) were compared. ANSYS Explicit Dynamics was used for collision analyses. An FE model was used for the anchor, FCM, andreinforcement bars. The results showed that the behavior of the FCM was verydifferent that those ofthe material models. In particular, the effect of the pressure dependent strength was most noticeable among the properties of concrete.

  • This paper deals with the development and application of control algorithms for series elastic relief robots for rescue operations in harsh environment like disasters or battlefield. The joint controller applied in this paper has a cascade structure combining inner loop for torque control and outer loop for position control. The torque loop contains feedforward and feedback controller and disturbance observer for independent, decentralized joint control. The effect of the elastic component and motor dynamics are treated as the nonlinear disturbance and compensated with the disturbance observer of torque controller. For the collision detection, Band Designed Disturbance Observer is configured to recognize/respond to external disturbance robustly in the continuously changing environment. The controller is applied to a 7-dof series elastic manipulator to evaluate the torque tracking and collision detection/response performance.

  • The simulation of motion responses of a dolphin-moored ocean structure in shallow water when it cllides with a ship, has been carried out. The equation of motion in the time domain according to Cummin's theory is employed, and solved by making use of the Newmark-${\beta}$ method. The added mass and damping coefficients involved in the equations are abtained from a three-dimensional panel method in the frequency domain. The impact forces due to ship collision are calculated using both the elastic and non-elastic modelings. The mooring forces for dolphin systems of ocean structure are regarded as linear spring forces.

  • To study the behavior a deck when it was collide with the ship approaching to the deck to berth, it was analyzed the effect zone by the ship collision which consists of deck slab and PC piles of the quay. The numerical technique is used to simulate the behavior of the deck when the ship hit the expansion joint of deck between the deck slabs. The failure behavior and zone of the deck are determinated by the comprehensive numerical study. The impact energy by the ship is also evaluated. It is concluded that these numerical analysis gave a reasonable estimation of the remedial area of the deck damaged by ship collision.

  • The prediction of binary droplet collisions is important in the formation of falling drops and the evolution of sprays. The droplet velocity, impact parameter, and drop-size ratio influence the interaction between the droplets. The effect of these parameters results in complicated collision phenomena. Droplet collisions can be classified into four types of interactions: bouncing, coalescence, reflexive separation, and stretching separation. In the present study, the interfacial flow problem of the droplet collision was numerically simulated by using the level set method. 2D axisymmetric simulations on the head-on collisions and 3D simulation on the off-center collisions were performed. The numerical results of droplet behavior after the collision agreed well with the experimental and analytical results. The mixing of the mass of the initial droplets after the collision was also predicted by using different species index of colliding droplets.
