  • The static pressure distribution, atomization characteristics and velocity distribution of tapered nozzle swirl spray is analyzed and then compared with original swirl spray. The static pressure distribution inside the swirl spray is measured using a piezoresistive pressure transducer. Phase Doppler anemometry (PDA) is applied to measure and analyze the droplet size and velocity distribution of tapered nozzle and original swirl spray. The static pressure inside the spray shows the lower value compared to the atmospheric pressure and this pressure drop is getting attenuated as the taper angle is increased. The droplet size of tapered nozzle spray shows similar value compared to the original swirl spray at the horizontal mainstream while it shows increased value at vertical mainstream. The deteriorated atomization characteristics of tapered nozzle spray is improved by applying high fuel temperature injection without causing the spray collapse. The velocity results show that the larger portion of fuel is positioned with higher injection velocity, and the smaller portion of fuel is positioned with lower injection velocity with causing spatially non-uniform mixture distribution.

  • Recently, the intensity and frequency of floods has increasing worldwide, and flood disasters have become a big problem. Flood disasters, which account for the largest portion of disasters, are floods accompanied by typhoons and localized heavy rainfall. As a result, they cause damage of levee overtopping, in which the water level of a river rises to the levee crown. Therefore, countermeasures are essential and necessary because of the damage to the facility itself as well as to life and other property. The damage magnitude depends on the collapse of the levee. A levee that is difficult to collapse will reduce the discharge inland significantly. Accordingly, the protection of the inland slope, where the collapse of the levee is initiated, is one of the most important countermeasures In this study, revetments with various porosity and forms were suggested and hydraulic experiments were carried out for each type. The hydraulic experiments showed that the stability of a revetment in an inland slope is strongly correlated with the weight per unit area of the revetment. The relationship between the critical velocity, which is the velocity at the moment of leaving the revetment, and the weight per unit area was derived. Through this study, by applying the nature friendly revetment, which has not yet been applied to Korea, it is expected that life and property damage caused by levee overtopping during flooding can be reduced, and a nature friendly river space can be constructed.

  • In this paper center manifold theory is reviewed and its application to the control of bifurcations is explored. When applying the theory to a sample power system, we study the stabilization of bifurcation points using controls depending only on the rotor angular velocity of a generator. Under such a control it is shown that the system is not locally stabilizable when control is applied through mechanical power, and the system is locally stabilizable when the control is applied to the capacitor compensator.

  • Results of N-body simulation of dissipationless cold collapse of spherical gravitating system are presented. We compared the results with properties of elliptical. The system gradually evolved to triaxial system. The projected density profile is in good agreement with the de Vaucouleur's r¼ law and the velocity dispersion profile is consistent with observations. In addition to triaxial instability, it seems that there is another instability.

  • According to recent ground collapse occurrence, ground subsidence is increasing every year in downtown area, which is a social problem. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between ground water level lowering and ground collapse through laboratory model experiments. After mixing 1:1 granite weathered soil with sand, sandy soil was formed as a relative density of 30%, 50%, and 80%. And then the changes of soil discharge with change of groundwater level were compared. The physical property of material of which particle distribution were well graded with maximu dry unit weight of $1.94kg/cm^3$ and internal friction angle of 37degrees. Ground water levels were measured at 10 cm, 20 cm, and 30 cm from the bottom. As a result, the experiment shows that the higher the groundwater level works the higher the discharge velocity and the magnitude of underground cavity also increases with elapsed time. Finally, the cumulative quantity of soil discharge occurred up to 30 kg at the elapsed time, 35 minutes. It was also confirmed that the range of ground collapse increased due to soil discharge with ground water level lowering.

  • This study analyzed two dimensions hydraulic characteristic for actual flood events in steep meandering channel. It could get analysis results as follows; A water level difference of downstream more great than one of upstream at inner and outer of meandering channel. It judged that a significance of downstream level could appear more greatly in meandering channel bank, hydraulic structure and flood inundation analysis. As velocity and depth analysis was shown that much amount flow passing fast velocity happened in meandering channel, it could help establishment of meandering channel bank. In this study, the results of two dimension hydraulic analysis results could help a counterpaln establishment for the flood inundation and bank collapse.

  • In parallel flow condition, to estimate the stability of the extended embankment constructed on a permeable foundation ground, a laboratory model test was performed due to extended materials and water level increasing velocity of a flood period. A laboratory model test was peformed for different permeability coefficients ($K_1=2.0{\times}10^{-5}cm/sec,\;K_2=1.5{\times}10^{-4}cm/sec,\;K_3=2.3{\times}10^{-3}cm/sec$) using seepage. The fluctuation of water level occurring to an extended embankment was analyzed by laboratory model tests as vary the increasing velocity of water level with 0.6cm/min, 1.2cm/min, 2.4cm/min respectively. In analysis results, the increase of water level into embankment occurs rapidly because seepage water moving along with a permeable soil flow into embankment. The larger the permeability coefficient of an extended part is the longer initial seepage distance, and the exit point of downstream slope is gradually increased and then shows unstable seepage behavior as occurring partial collapse. As the increasing velocity of water level increase, the initial seepage line is formed low, and the discharge increases. Therefore, the embankment extended by a lower permeable soil than existing embankment shows stable seepage behavior because an existing embankment plays a role as filter for an extended part.

  • Scour in the downstream of hydraulic structures such as apron induces to collapse due to abruptly increasing rainfall and discharge in streams and reaches. This is because the forcible jet from overflowing is not sufficiently dissipated by existing energy dissipators, and it continues to sweep the bed materials during flood events. In this study, a second stilling basin was proposed as a countermeasure and the energy dissipation efficiency of this structure was analyzed using 3D-dimensional numerical analysis. First, results from previous research and hydraulic tests were used to verify the accuracy of the numerical model. It showed that the second stilling basin played a definite role in reducing the bottom velocity, comparing with diminishing the energy dissipation when numerical tests were conducted under scaled field conditions in Korea. This means that the second stilling basin can be a countermeasure against scour in downstream. If more efficiency analysis of the second stilling basin would be performed in terms of energy dissipator for various types of hydraulic jump, it would be an alternative solution to scouring issues.

  • Floor acceleration plays a major role in the seismic design of nonstructural components and equipment supported by structures. Large floor acceleration may cause structural damage to or even collapse of buildings. For precision instruments in high-tech factories, even small floor accelerations can cause considerable damage in this study. Six P-wave parameters, namely the peak measurement of acceleration, peak measurement of velocity, peak measurement of displacement, effective predominant period, integral of squared velocity, and cumulative absolute velocity, were estimated from the first 3 s of a vertical ground acceleration time history. Subsequently, a new predictive algorithm was developed, which utilizes the aforementioned parameters with the floor height and fundamental period of the structure as the new inputs of a support vector regression model. Representative earthquakes, which were recorded by the Structure Strong Earthquake Monitoring System of the Central Weather Bureau in Taiwan from 1992 to 2016, were used to construct the support vector regression model for predicting the peak floor acceleration (PFA) of each floor. The results indicated that the accuracy of the predicted PFA, which was defined as a PFA within a one-level difference from the measured PFA on Taiwan's seismic intensity scale, was 96.96%. The proposed system can be integrated into the existing earthquake early warning system to provide complete protection to life and the economy.

  • Recently, interest in reducing cement has been growing. Hwangto, an eco-friendly material, has advantages such as air purification effect and humidity control, but when used, accidents such as form collapse may occur due to low strength and reduced durability. In order to quantitatively evaluate the timing of mold demolding, we would like to evaluate the timing of mold demolding through correlation with compressive strength using ultrasonic pulse velocity. As a result, the time at which 5 MPa is developed is after 20 hours for the test specimen of W/B 41 , in the case of W/B 33, NC33 and HTC33-15 were equally expressed at 12 hours, and HTC33-30 was expressed at 16 hours.
