  • With the rapid spread of smartphones, it has become common to listen to music everywhere, just like background music in life, so it is necessary to create a music database that can make recommendations according to individual circumstances and conditions. This paper proposes a music recommendation model through social media. Since emotions, situations, time of day, weather, etc. are included in hashtags, it is possible to build a social media-based database that reflects the opinions of various people with collective intelligence. We use web crawling to collect and categorize different hashtags from posts with music title hashtags to use real listeners' opinions about music in a database. Data from social media is used to create a music database, and music is classified in a different way from collaborative filtering, which is mainly used by existing music platforms.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how a therapeutic drumming intervention would impact middle school students with regard to school violence prevention. Participants were all in the third-year class of a middle school in Korea. A school music teacher and a music therapist designed and implemented the program collaboratively, and mainly used dyadic, synchronized, and improvisational drumming based on the Social Emotional Learning core competencies. A total of 65 students participated in a weekly 45-minute program for 10 weeks. Ten participants out of 65 were selected for interviews and the rest of the 55 participants were asked to fill out an open-ended survey. Content analysis of the survey and interviews produced 492 meaningful statements, which were categorized into seven themes: somatic responses to drumming, emotional processing, group cohesion, empathy, relationship with peers, self-esteem, and self-regulation. The findings indicated that dyadic, synchronized, and improvisational drumming may promote prosocial behaviors in students of this age. The author discussed that drumming produces physical input directly from the instruments, which prompts students to identify and empathize with their own or others' emotions. This study therefore suggests that collaborative work between school music teachers and music therapists may positively impact middle school students' prosocial behaviors, as they pertain to school violence in Korea.

  • This paper deals with a method to recommend the combination of items as a group according to similarity to handle application area such as fashion and cooking, while the previous methods recommend single item such as a book, music or movie. Collaborative filtering is a method to recommend an item selected by users with similar tendency based on similarity between users. In this paper, the proposed method generates a set of frequent items based on collaborative filtering and association rules and recommends a group by similarity between groups. To show the validity of the proposed method, experiments are performed with purchase data collected from e-commerce for four months.

  • Collaborative filtering is one of the popular techniques for personalized recommendation in e-commerce. In collaborative filtering, user profiles are usually managed per product category in order to reduce data sparsity. Product diversification of Internet storefronts and multiple product category sales of e-commerce portals require cross-product category usage of user profiles in order to overcome the cold start problem of collaborative filtering. In this paper, we study the feasibility of cross-product category usage of user profiles, and suggest a method to improve recommendation performance of cross-product category user profiling. First, we investigate whether user profiles on a product category can be used to recommend products in other product categories. Furthermore, a way of utilizing user profiles selectively is suggested to increase recommendation performance of cross-product category user profiling. The feasibility of cross-product category user profiling and the usefulness of the proposed method are tested with real click stream data of an Internet storefront which sells multiple product categories including books, music CDs, and DVDs. The experiment results show that user profiles on a product category can be used to recommend products in other product categories. Also, the selective usage of user profiles based on correlations between subcategories of two product categories provides better performance than the whole usage of user profiles.

  • Personalization recommendations have already proven in many areas of the e-commerce industry. For personalization recommendations, additional work such as reclassifying items is generally necessary, which requires personal information. In this study, we propose a recommendation technique that neither exploit personal information nor reclassify items. We focus on music recommendation and performed experiments with actual music listening data. Experimental analysis shows that the proposed method may result in meaningful recommendations albeit it exploits less amount of data. We analyze the appropriate number of items and present future considerations for contextual recommendation.

  • Recommendation system plays a significant role on relieving difficulties of selecting information among rapidly increasing amount of information caused by the development of the Internet and on efficiently displaying information that fits individual personal interest. In particular, without the help of recommendation system, E-commerce and OTT companies cannot overcome the long-tail phenomenon, a phenomenon in which only popular products are consumed, as the number of products and contents are rapidly increasing. Therefore, the research on recommendation systems is being actively conducted to overcome the phenomenon and to provide information or contents that are aligned with users' individual interests, in order to induce customers to consume various products or contents. Usually, collaborative filtering which utilizes users' historical behavioral data shows better performance than contents-based filtering which utilizes users' preferred contents. However, collaborative filtering can suffer from cold-start problem which occurs when there is lack of users' historical behavioral data. In this paper, hybrid music recommendation system, which can solve cold-start problem, is proposed based on the playlist data of Melon music streaming service that is given by Kakao Arena for music playlist continuation competition. The goal of this research is to use music tracks, that are included in the playlists, and metadata of music tracks and playlists in order to predict other music tracks when the half or whole of the tracks are masked. Therefore, two different recommendation procedures were conducted depending on the two different situations. When music tracks are included in the playlist, LightFM is used in order to utilize the music track list of the playlists and metadata of each music tracks. Then, the result of Item2Vec model, which uses vector embeddings of music tracks, tags and titles for recommendation, is combined with the result of LightFM model to create final recommendation list. When there are no music tracks available in the playlists but only playlists' tags and titles are available, recommendation was made by finding similar playlists based on playlists vectors which was made by the aggregation of FastText pre-trained embedding vectors of tags and titles of each playlists. As a result, not only cold-start problem can be resolved, but also achieved better performance than ALS, BPR and Item2Vec by using the metadata of both music tracks and playlists. In addition, it was found that the LightFM model, which uses only artist information as an item feature, shows the best performance compared to other LightFM models which use other item features of music tracks.

  • The appearance of various mobile Internet environment access to existing networks of mobile devices is easier to tell. In addition, mobile device users to use the wireless environment than a wired environment, user profile information is readily available features. Mobile devices have features that use alone. These characteristics of mobile devices to apply the personalization service is the best system. This paper proposes for mobile device users a personalized mobile music content recommendation service. This service propose to utilizes the user's access history information using time-weighting and collaborative filtering. Access history information can find out information of user interest. Using this information, consider the preference of music genre and time-weighted based on the recommendations makes the music. This method the problem of the traditional music recommendation system, point user's favorite music genre is changing over time do not consider that to solve the problem.

  • Nowadays many people participate in online communities for information sharing. But most recommender systems are designed for personalization of individual user, so it is necessary to develop a recommendation procedure for group users, such as participants in online communities. This paper proposes a group recommender system to recommend books for group users in online communities. For such a purpose, we suggest a group recommendation procedure consisting of two phases. The first phase is to generate recommendation list for 'big user' using collaborative filtering, and the second phase is to remove irrelevant books among previous list reflecting the preference of each individual user. The procedure is explained step by step with an illustrative example. And this procedure can potentially be applied to other domains, such as music, movies and etc.

  • Collaborative filtering is one of the most successfully used methods for recommender systems and has been utilized in various areas such as books and music. The key point of this method is selecting the most proper recommenders, for which various similarity measures have been studied. To improve recommendation performance, this study analyzes problems of existing recommender selection methods based on similarity and presents a method of dynamically determining recommenders based on the rate of co-rated items as well as similarity. Examination of performance with varying thresholds through experiments revealed that the proposed method yielded greatly improved results in both prediction and recommendation qualities, and that in particular, this method showed performance improvements with only a few recommenders satisfying the given thresholds.

  • Recently an intelligent system is developed for the service what users want not a passive system which just answered user's request. This intelligent system is used for personalized recommendation system and representative techniques are content-based and collaborative filtering. In this study, we propose a prediction system which is based on the techniques of recommendation system using a collaborative filtering and a fuzzy system to solve the collaborative filtering problems. In order to verify the prediction system, we used the data that is user's rating about movies. We predicted the user's rating using this data. The accuracy of this prediction system is determined by computing the RMSE(root mean square error) of the system's prediction against the actual rating about the each movie and is compared with the existing system. Thus, this prediction system can be applied to base technology of recommendation system and also recommendation of multimedia such as music and books.
