  • Three species which belong to two genera of the Laboulbeniales were collected on Dytiscidae (Coleoptera) and Carabidae (Coleoptera) from south Korea. Occurrence of these species has not been recorded in Korea. They are Chitonomyces orientalis Thaxter on Laccophilus lewisius sharp, Chitonomyces zonatus Thaxter on Laccophilus lewisius sharp and Laboulbenia gebleri Terada on Haplochlaenius constiger Chaudoir. Major characters of the three species are described and illustrated.

  • The family Tetratomidae Billberg occurs in most parts of the world but many species are discovered from Australia and New Zealand. The family contains 13 genera and over 150 described species in five subfamilies, Eustrophinae, Hallomeninae, Penthinae, Piseninae and Tetratominae. Among the eustrophine genera, a genus Eustrophus Illiger includes four species in the Holartic region including three Palaearctic species, E. dermestoides (Fabricius), E. niponicus Lewis and E. yunnanensis Nikitsky. In this study, the genus Eustrophus and its a single species, E. niponicus, are newly discovered from the Korean fauna. A diagnosis, habitus photographs and illustrations of diagnostic characters including aedeagus of the species are provided.

  • The family Melyridae Leach includes more than 300 genera and 6,000 species consisting of four subfamilies (Dasytinae, Malachiinae, Melyrinae, Rhadalinae). Members of the subfamily Malachiinae is distributed all over the world except for New Zealand and prefer warmer, arid or semi-arid regions. Among the malachiine genera, a genus Kuatunia Evers includes 17 species worldwide, mainly distributed in East Asia. In this study, the genus and its described species, Kuatunia oblongula (Kiesenwetter), is newly added to the Korean fauna. A diagnosis, habitus photographs, and illustrations of diagnostic characters are provided, with a key to species of the genus in East Asia.

  • The riffle beetle genus Leptelmis is newly recorded in the Korean fauna with descriptions of two new species, L. coreana, n. sp. and L. ochra, n. sp. Dorsal habitus and line-drawings of diagnostic characters are provided. The adults of L. coreana and L. ochra are similar to those of L. gracilis Sharp or L. parallela Nomura in general appearance, but can be distinguished by the absence of apical spurs on the middle and hind tibiae, light brown body color, smaller body size, and the shape of aedeagus apex. Leptelmis coreana can be distinguished from L. ochra by the absence of hindwings, lack of prominent humeri and wider elytra in posterior portion. Adults of both species occur in lowland streams and large rivers, but L. ochra were encountered relatively infrequently.

  • Callosobruchus chinensis (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) is the main pest of mungbean (Vigna radiata) especially during seed storage. To provide background information for chemical ecology studies, we examined the externalmorphology of the antennal, maxillary palp and labial palp sensilla of this insect with scanning electron microscopy. The antennae of adult C. chinensis exhibited sexual dimorphism. The female have serrated antenna and the male have pectinate morphology. Eight sensillum types have been observed on the antennae of both sexes: $B\ddot{o}hm$ bristles, sensilla chaetica, sensilla trichodea, sensilla basiconica, sensilla styloconicum, sensilla coeloconica, sensillum campaniformia, sensilla cavity. There are no differences on the morphology of maxillary palp and labial palp between female and male. Four different types of sensilla are present on the labial and maxillary palps of both sexes of C. chinensis: sensilla chaetica, sensilla twig basiconica, sensilla basiconica, sensilla digitiformia.

  • The subgenus Abstrulia Casey belonging to the genus Tetratoma Fabricius of the family Tetratomidae is distributed ten species over the Holarctic region, including eight Palaearctic species. In East Asia, four species from Russian Far East and two species from Japan have been recorded, respectively. In the Korean Peninsula, two species, T. (A.) ainu (Nakane) and T. (A.) pictipennis Reitter, were reported up to date, and latter species is newly recorded in South Korea in this paper. A redescription, habitus photograph, and illustrations of diagnostic characters of the species are provided, with a key to species of the subgenus Abstrulia.

  • The genus and species, Diekeana insignis(Gorham), is reported for the first time in Korea. Male adults were collected from Geoje Island and Changwon-si, located in the southern part of South Korea. The species of D. insignis(Gorham) is characterized by the following morphological characteristics: body length about 9.4mm; pronotum with transverse black marking in the middle part; each elytron with seven large black markings; penis long, slightly bent at apical part, truncate at apex; parameres narrow and as long as penis guide; penis guide narrow and pointed at apex. We herein provide habitus photographs, illustrations of morphological characters, male genitalia, and a detailed diagnosis. A partial sequence of the mitochondrial COI gene was obtained and provided mtDNA information for this species.

  • The genus Hydroporus Clairville is the most diverse group belonging to the subfamily Hydroporinae in the family Dytiscidae. However, members of this group have not been recorded in the Korean peninsula. The genus Hydroporus Clairville is characterized by the following features: body glabrous to distinctly setose; elytra and ventral surface mainly piceous to black; epipleuron lacking a carina on humeral angle; metacoxal process conjointly with hind margin straight or slightly angulate medially. We collected the high mountain wetland and identified the species of Hydroporus uenoi Nakane based on male genitalia for the first time. A habitus photo, a redescription, mitochondrial DNA sequence, illustrations of the aedeagus of species, and habitat information are provided.

  • Diversity or richness and altitudinal distribution of subtribe Carabinae were investigated on Mt. Togyusan in Korea. Of the collected seven species belonging to 4 genera, Carabus sternbergi was the most abundant and Leptocarabus semiopacus and L. seishinensis were relatively abundant than the other species. Although species diversity and species richness indices were higher at the crown site than those at lower sites, more indivisuals were found at low sites. There were relatively more females.
