Taxonomy of the genus Leptusa Kraatz in Korea (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Aleocharinae) (한국산 짧은나래반날개속의 분류학적 연구)

  • A taxonomic study of Korean Leptusa Kraatz is presented. Two species-L. (Drepanoleptusa) deplanata (Sawada) and L. (Eospisalia) kitazawai kitazawai (Sawada)-are recognized. The genus and species are recorded for the first time in Korea. A key, diagnoses, habitus photographs and illustrations of diagnostic characters are provided.

  • A taxonomic study of the Korean Hydrochus Leach is presented. They inhabit in the margins of shallow lentic water with plentiful vegetation. The genus Hydrochus Leach contains about 28 species in the Palaearctic region and only H. japonicus Sharp is recently listed in Korea. Here, two species are recognized, one of which is reported for the first time in Korea (H. chubu Balfour-Browne & Sat$\hat{o}$). This species are distinguished from H. aequalis Sharp by impressed pronotum and from H. japonicus by dark brown elytra. Habitus photographs, descriptions, and diagnostic characters with illustrations of the species are provided.

  • Four homalotine species-Anomognathus armatus (Sharp), Heterota onorum Maruyama, Neosilusa ceylonica (Kraatz), and Silusa lanuginosa Sharp-and three genera-Anomognathus Solier, Neosilusa Cameron, Silusa Erichson-are identified for the first time in Korea. The tribe Homalotini can be distinguished from other related tribes by the combination of the following characters: tarsal formula 4-4-5; mandible with patch or rows of denticles in ventral molar region; base of medial setae of prementum very close together, setal insertions in contact in many, setae displaced one behind the other in some; medial pseudopore field of prementum very narrow in many. Habitus photographs, diagnoses, and illustrations of male genitalia of these four species are provided.

A Ground-Beetle, Chlaenius hamifer Chaudoir, New to Korea (Coleoptera: Carabidae)

  • Chlaenius is a large and diverse genus of ground beetle. This colorful beetle recognized from its pubescent elytra and pungent defensive secretions. Subgenus Pachydinodes belonging to the genus Chlaenius were reported eight species from Palaearctic, among them four species, Chlaenius (Pachydinodes) abstersus Bates, C. (P.) pictus Chaudoir, C. (P.) tetragonoderus Chaudoir, C. (P.) virgulifer Chaudoir were reported in Korea up to now. In here, Chlaenius hamifer Chaudoir are report firstly in Korea. Description and photo of adult and aedeagus are provided.

First Record of the Subcortical Beetle Genus Bitoma (Coleoptera: Zopheridae) in Korea

  • The family Zopheridae Solier consist of members from several previous families, Zopherinae Solier, Monommatinae Blanchard and Colydiinae Erichson, and more than 1,700 described species are placed in the Zopheridae. They are widely distributed in all major biogeographical regions. The zopheridine genus Bitoma Herbst comprise more than 30 species worldwide including four Palaearctic species. A taxonomic study of the genus Bitoma in Korea is presented. The genus Bitoma and its two species, B. crenata (Fabricius) and B. siccana (Pascoe), are new to the Korean Peninsula. A key, diagnoses, habitus photographs, and illustrations of aedeagus of the Korean Bitoma species are provided.

  • Four Korean species of the genus Philonthus Stephens (P. aeneipennis Boheman, P. daimio Sharp, P. nakanei Sawada, and P. numata Dvorak) are identified newly and are recorded for the first time in Korea. The diagnosis and the aedeagus illustrations of each species are presented herein.

  • Two dytiscid beetle species, Hyphydrus falkenstromi Gschwendtner and Sandracottus mixtus (Blanchard), are identified for the first time in Korea. Hydaticus pacificus Aube previously recorded in Korea was misidentification of S. mixtus. Habitus photographs, redescriptions, and diagnostic characters with line drawings of the species are provided.

  • Detailed morphological descriptions and illustrations of the last instar larva of $Lilioceris$ ($Lilioceris$) ruficollis (Baly, 1865) with the host species, $Dioscorea$ spp., are presented for the first time. Taxonomical and ecological remarks on their biology are also given herein.

  • Lissodema plagiatum Lewis is newly recorded and L. laevipennis Marseul is removed from the Korean fauna. A habitus photograph and taxonomic note of the newly recorded species are provided, with a key to Korea species of the family Salpingidae Leach.
